In the country, they have fog. In the city, we have condensation. This was not a love tap. Going places. People live up there. They must have a lot of Windex. There`s a new guy in center field.

All of today`s photos were taken with a camera I bought more than 20 years ago. Today I gave a long presentation about my photography. It was attended by a group of appreciative people. Then I shot a few more photos with the old camera. This camera served me well for years, but I`m so very glad I have much better equipment now.

I took many great photos of Kelley today. This isn`t one. The real photos will be shown later. These are outtakes. AMAZING: She wore 11 outfits in a 2 1/2 hour shoot. Oh, and did I mention she was dancing in the photos? Kelley has never shined brighter.

Every year at this time, a busload of Miamisburg High School students descends upon the Oregon District (see September 15, 2015; September 15, 2016; September 14, 2018; September 5, 2019; and September 15, 2022). Over the years, I`ve observed that the students` cameras have been replaced by cell phones. Morning in the Oregon District. I did a photo shoot for my former employer and was told I could come and pick up a check. This is my `check.` Morning aspirations.

Rugby is one of those sports I don`t really understand. Basically, one team tries to move the ball one way. And the other team tries to stop them. This is my favorite part of the game. Wearing little more than a jersey and shorts, she runs full speed into a tackle.

Every year at this time, there`s a big event showcasing outdoor activities that I would never do. I`m content to stand on the firm, dry ground. I come every year for Chris Clark`s mountain bike show. And for Dock Dogs. It`s a lot of high-flying fur. And a big splash at the end.

October 7, 2024
As I took this a man asked, `Do you have a cigarette?` I`m trying to make summer last forever. Cheerios for everyone! Spider web on the face: not a good feeling. At least the car broke down in front of a repair shop.

October 8, 2024
Welcome to the Oregon District! It`s time for a new coat of paint (see August 7, 2004). Shadows shouldn`t be this long at 11:01am. Surveillance cameras have recently appeared in the building where I work -- to ensure my safety and liberty. Did I turn on the furnace on October 8? You betcha.

Rollin,` rollin,` rollin` by the river. City or country? It`s hard to tell. Should I be concerned that it hardly rains anymore? I used to write about jazz and classical music for the Dayton Daily News, but Mark Stryker did it before me. I don`t know when I`ll have time to read a book, but I`m glad to have this one.

October 10, 2024
Preparing for a group photo. Can you guess where I`m going to sit? The guy in front is looking down. After the photo, there was lunch. Framed and ready to hang (see September 13, 2024).

Down on the farm. I chased this butterfly around a pond until it landed. It came toward me with its tail wagging happily. A fallen goose feather with droplets of morning dew. I`m not sure I was allowed to be in this field, but I really wanted to take this photo.

October 12, 2024
I was down on the farm again, in a barn built in 1886. The finest in poultry portraiture (see June 2, 2024). Somebody else worked hard to grow the flowers. Planning ahead for the future. Fall is pretty, but it`s my second-least favorite season.

October 13, 2024
I go to one football game a year (see September 24, 2023, and October 15, 2022). I don`t care who wins. I`m just there for the pictures. Sometimes the pictures aren`t on the playing field. There was another game going on nearby. A save for the home team!

After years, years and more years of construction, will this sidewalk be open again soon? Whether you know it or not, your life is televised (see October 8 above). Falling on North Main Street. William McKinley hails a taxi. Dubious marketing techniques (see July 20, 2006).

Keep your coffee: orange juice gets my morning started. Yesterday I walked to work and it was cold and rainy. Today I drove, wearing a winter coat. Only the finest publications have photos by Adam Alonzo. I gave up watching TV on May 28, 2003. It`s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, unfortunately.

October 16, 2024
Because of the recent cold weather, I`ve had to drive to work and park in the depressing parking garage. Two of my coworkers had birthdays, so I got cake. I left work early and, for the first time, saw my own name on the radio display. I listened to myself as I drove to Woodland Cemetery. The last time I was in this chapel was to present a photo clinic (see July 23, 2005).

October 17, 2024
How about some delicious berries for breakfast? I`m finally reading the manual to my new camera (see September 29, 2024). It says I can`t connect this flash, although I`ve been doing it for three weeks now. Other people`s photo shoots (with a dog this time). As I waited for The Flyer, an art exhibition rolled by. Making a living with a six-string and a cardboard sign.

October 18, 2024
She`s been up all night and is ready for sleep. A bird returning to its nest. The Flyer is aptly named. The driver likes to accelerate. I told the crew they`re doing good work (see September 23, 2024) but they speak Spanish and I speak English. A typical scene in the Oregon District.

October 19, 2024
Pie eating contest? I`ll be there (see September 30, 2007). Not all of the pumpkins were eaten in the contest. Large devices were used to chuck pumpkins long distances. Pumpkins were never meant to fly. But fly they did.

October 20, 2024
It was so sunny, I couldn`t see what I was doing. Meanwhile another photographer nearby was making silly noises so two dogs would look at her camera. I tolerate spiders -- to a point. She should be wearing a jacket. The ants and I found this little flower fascinating.

October 21, 2024
The calm before the jazz. Dayton`s veteran jazzman Eddie Brookshire. It`s been too long since I`ve heard Gary Onady play (see February 6, 2020). Brenda Flowers paid homage to Ella and Sarah. G. Scott Jones played his own composition (see July 7, 2024).

October 22, 2024
A perfect morning, if you like fall. I once took pictures of a girl who lived in a rural area (see August 18, 2012). She was creeped out by how close the houses are in the Oregon District. In the mornings, I wait for The Flyer next to this tree. In August, I stand in the shade. In October, I`m in the sun. Historic buildings need a lot of tender loving care. More leaves? Yes, not much else going on.

October 23, 2024
At the time I didn`t see the cameras pointing back at me. There`s a new face in the neighborhood. As I walked past this abandoned diner, I noticed a hole in the wall, which means there are people living inside. America means different things to different people. My new camera can automatically focus on whatever my eye looks at. This is my first test of that feature.

October 24, 2024
Reflecting on the season. My new camera isn`t perfect, and getting this picture was more difficult than necessary. I used the flash that isn`t supposed to connect to my camera (see October 17 above). Two male cardinals were arguing and didn`t notice me. It was a chilly morning on the prairie.

October 25, 2024
I did something highly unusual: I didn`t go straight home after work. I went to a volleyball game -- with free admission. I sat in the front row and nearly got hit by the ball. It was a cheerful night since the home team won. The second game went on and on until Wright State finally won 38 to 36.

October 26, 2024
She was Cleopatra this year (see October 28, 2023). Brilliant costumes: a Mexican and a pinata. Halloween entertainment. I could hear the band from my living room until 1am. I`m not voting for either of them.

October 27, 2024
I could`ve gone to a dance performance this afternoon, but I watched soccer players dancing instead. This may be my last outdoor game this year. Spectators were watching the game wrapped in blankets. Today was the birthday of the goalkeeper in red. Nobody scored on her. But Dayton didn`t score either, so it ended a 0-0 tie. Oh, the sun was harsh.

October 28, 2024
I decided to go to the Pumpkin Glow early to avoid the crowd. Hundreds of other people had the same idea. Getting into the Halloween spirit. Snake in the grass. Somebody somewhere was the first to say, `Hey, let`s cut a pumpkin open and carve a face on it.` Someone is always watching you.

October 29, 2024
I have this week off work and am free as a bird. So today I went to visit some people (and non-people) I know (see November 15, 2015). I`m not a cat person, but I was unusually friendly to one. Cocoa, the perpetual puppy, just wants to play all day. BB seemed to think she was on display in an art gallery.

October 30, 2024
Fall is falling. I hoped to see migrating monarchs, but there were none. Row, row, row your boat. I decided to vote early to avoid the crowd. Hundreds of other people had the same idea. What`s blowing in the wind for our country?

October 31, 2024
All buzzed out. Just like a ghost, you`ve been a-hauntin` my dreams, so I`ll propose on Halloween. Love is kinda crazy with a spooky little girl like you. J. R. COBB & BUDDY BUIE The cycle of life, death and rebirth is spinning into negative territory. Possibly my closest squirrel encounter. Seeya next month!
