Who draws the crowd, and plays so loud? Baby, it`s the guitar man. Who`s gonna steal the show? You know baby, it`s the guitar man. DAVID GATES He was singing a song called Reachin` Up. Let the music move you. The band was hard to categorize: New Orleans/New York/international funk. That Sousaphone has put on a lot of miles.

Everything`s under control. In real life, I thought it might be a heron. Zooming in the photo later, I see it`s an osprey. Butterflies are extremely rare this year. First day out with the new flash (see August 31, 2022). See it reflected in the bird`s eye? Bumblebees are not scarce this year.

September 3, 2022
I had time today to figure out how my new flashes work. I read manuals, watched YouTube videos and randomly pushed buttons until I got them to flash together. I probably have more flashes than anyone needs. The best advantage of the new flashes is that they have their own battery packs, so I can ditch unreliable AAs. I also found out (accidentally) that I can push a button on the flash and this triggers the camera to take a picture.

Some mornings, it`s just hard to get started. I thought she was hunting cicadas, but then she came flying out with a berry in her beak. This bug I admired from a distance. By making a few adjustments in Photoshop, I can make a dull, gray morning look bright and sunny. At this point, I heard the park gate opening and the voices of children and I knew it was time to leave.

September 5, 2022
New camera equipment has come in, old camera equipment has gone out, and I really need to organize. Rain means a free car wash. Okay, the car wash can stop now. Dinner tonight came with entertainment. Someone`s wondering why I`m in her house.

September 6, 2022
A building with a beard. If an octopus has only one tentacle, is it a monopus? This place is always crowded after work. Dayton`s skyscraper. Make your own butterflies at the Dayton Metro Library.

September 7, 2022
Did I mention I bought a new flash? (See September 3 above). Penthouse apartment now available. Shadows like this are an unwelcome hint of autumn. Guess what country I`m in right now. The same reflective windows at the Library, but from the opposite direction (see June 28, 2022).

September 8, 2022
During the pandemic, this duo practiced in the basement on an orange couch, so they brought it with them on tour. It was a brother-sister act: both of them had long hair. But she had an extraordinarily powerful stage presence. Fame and success in the music business are complex, but someday you might hear about Jocelyn and Chris. For most bands, the smoke machine is pointless, but it seemed appropriate for Jocelyn`s combustible energy.

September 9, 2022
I`m using the most expensive camera/lens combination I`ve ever owned, but it had trouble focusing on this shot. Photography requires looking closely and really seeing. Someone came up and told me he`s taken photos daily for more than a year. I didn`t tell him I`m in my 19th year. The flowers are waiting, but very few butterflies come. Wary of me, but hungry enough not to fly away.

September 10, 2022
Teams from Illinois and Pennsylvania battled in Dayton. I went to the game, knowing the crowd would be small. I photographed No. 12 on November 9, 2019, and called her `the most versatile player I`ve seen.` Most of the seats around the court are reserved for donors, so ordinary people have to sit further away. Illinois (in orange and white) dominated the two-day tournament, and even beat the host team Dayton. My sympathies were with the underdog team in blue.

This project seems to have taken a dark turn (see June 1, 2022). I expected the monarch . . . . . . but didn`t expect the black swallowtail. Art lover (see August 19, 2022). A furry nuisance.

September 12, 2022
I thought I heard a bird chirping, but it was just this excitable dog. Repairs have begun 536 days after a car drove through the wall of my parking garage (see March 25, 2021). Another innovation at my parking garage: we now have DOORS! The fire inspector must have been here. Meanwhile, in the building where I work, things are falling apart. The most dangerous thing I do every day is cross the street in downtown Dayton (see October 29, 2018).

September 13, 2022
During public radio pledge week, food is plentiful and harmful. The most dangerous thing (see September 12 above). The sky at 6:40 when I started walking home. The sky at 6:58 when I got home (without getting wet). Because of masks, handwashing and social distancing, I haven`t been sick in over two years, but my luck ran out.

September 14, 2022
Because I`m a famous broadcasting celebrity, I had to sign my autograph until my hand hurt. They have a rocky relationship. On some days, what I really need is calm. The only person you need to outdo is yourself. And when at last the spaceships arrived, they were piloted by gulls.

Miamisburg students make their annual visit to the Oregon District (see September 15, 2015; September 15, 2016; September 14, 2018; September 5, 2019). Mother of the Year Award to her for walking her kid into traffic against the light. This box appeared on a public bench yesterday and it was full. Tomatoes are more nutritious than donuts (see September 21, 2021). I had to take a test when I got to work. I`m not pregnant. Public radio pledge week food (see September 13 above).

September 16, 2022
I`m only partially responsible for the mess in this studio. Another pledge week is over. Mine is the apple juice. I`m impressed at how the brickwork matches the original (see September 12 above). The new wall will be harder for someone to drive through (see March 25, 2021). The front entrance of my garage is still blocked. Oh well, one miracle at a time.

September 17, 2022
It was a battle of WSU against WSU. And WSU won. They played (and won) another game later in the day. Shooting volleyball is easier with my newest camera, which can take about 25 pictures in one second. In what other sport do players switch from defense to offense so quickly? She`s been a volleyball fan since she was young.

September 18, 2022
The team in white had to play defense most of the day. No. 27 was in the perfect position to prevent a goal. Only the ball girls and referees were closer to the field than I was. No. 11 has another close encounter with a goalkeeper (see August 21, 2022; and July 10, 2021). No one was more surprised than she was when she scored a goal.

September 19, 2022
When this video screen was installed (see August 1, 2022), I thought, `Nice, but what about the sunlight?` Sunbathing. Urban textures. Is it almost done (see August 17, 2022)? What will happen to the rectangle in Rocky`s chest? The gull is repeating itself, or I am (see September 14 above) .

September 20, 2022
Fueling up for the long trip to Mexico. The sun was rising on the opposite side of this flower, but my expensive new flash made this shot possible. Hopefully these giant concrete spheres won`t roll around anymore (see March 28, 2021). Oregon District details (1 of 2). Oregon District details (2 of 2).

September 21, 2022
They`re flying cupcakes, of course. Isn`t it obvious? Well, I was hatched in Bellbrook, but then Dayton grown. Dayton is the birthplace of funk music. Balloons, large and small. Sit here if you`re tired.

September 22, 2022
Joy comes in the morning. PSALM 30:5 With my big lens, I was able to photograph an eagle. A chipmunk was right were I expected it to be (see August 22, 2022). The fountains of Dayton. Amber waves. I wave back.

September 23, 2022
Front porch wildlife. Renewal took longer than expected (see June 27, 2022). For emergency, dial 9-1-1. This may be a BEFORE picture for some future AFTER picture. Still crooning after all these years (see February 9, 2007).

September 24, 2022
The starting gun was loud, but the annoying `80s music over the PA system was deafening (e.g. `Born to Run`). There`s usually one athlete on any team who always knows where the camera is (see September 13, 2012). She`s always running (see August 18, 2019; and September 5, 2020). Helpful things that spectators shout to cross country runners as they pass: GO! RUN FAST! KEEP GOING! She deserves a medal for acknowledging the camera.

September 25, 2022
Recent developments: I wore my winter coat. Recent developments: I put gas in my car, eight weeks after my last fillup. Recent developments: I got a free car wash (see photo). Recent developments: I went to a movie for the first time in years. Again, it was free (because I`m cheap). Recent developments: I got blankets and sweaters out of storage and started using them.

September 26, 2022
Making money is pointless. Pressuring other people to adopt your point of view is obnoxious. What`s left over? Construction zone footware. Everywhere you look, there are signs of autumn. Scooters spring up everywhere like weeds. Hanging around the Oregon District.

September 27, 2022
Keep your coffee. Give me orange juice in the morning. Most people work a lot harder than I do. When the sky looks like this, I can leave my car at home. On the Flyer this evening, a passenger saw my camera and proceeded to tell me about her love of photography. And then I got off the Flyer and found perfection.

September 28, 2022
Preparing on Wednesday for a photo shoot on Friday. My two new flashes work together very easily. It`s gotten cooler, but I`m still walking to work -- for now. The colder it gets, the worse my pictures become. Two living room pictures in the morning, and two more in the evening. It`s going to be a long winter.

September 29, 2022
Another year, another luncheon (see May 29, 2014). `Back after a two-year hiatus` (see July 30, 2022). He`s playing piano music on the guitar. Now that`s skill. A photo of nature`s splendor -- taken from inside my car. Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. PSALM 127:1

September 30, 2022
She`s always stunning, but I`m not always there to see. I made a reconnaissance trip here on September 21 (see above). Some people look good even in mug shots. She brought two brand new dresses to this photo shoot. The red crepe paper was held together by white strings, but I`m a perfectionist so I tediously painted them all out.
