March 1, 2022
The city of Dayton in a drinking fountain. It was a sunshiny pre-spring day. And with sunshine comes shadow. I came upon a fork in the road -- no wait, forget it. Recycling receptacle.

March 2, 2022
Do they have drive-thru confession? Daffodils are starting to think about it. This is not the river. This is a sidewalk next to the river. Ballet dancer at rest. A falcon high on the rocky cliffs of downtown Dayton.

March 3, 2022
Work means different things to different people. Cement falls from the ceiling in my parking garage. Timeworn. Abraham Lincoln against an ominous sky. The same sky.

March 4, 2022
I thanked them for fixing the pavement (see February 24, 2022). This is a sidewalk next to the river (see March 2 above). An angry goose is a noisy goose. Keeping watch over First Street. Birthday rituals.

March 5, 2022
Enthusiasm. Flexibility. Introspection. Confluence. Perfection.

March 6, 2022
I wouldn`t put it past her. I might try, but I wouldn`t. Back at ya! Note: it`s the first week of March and we`re all outside. I wanted to shoot pictures from the field, but was politely told to sit in the spectator stands. It turned out okay. If good weather continues, I`ll shoot another game on March 26. If not, then it`s back indoors for color guard!

?regnol hcum woH This is a sidewalk next to the river (see March 4 above). The National Weather Service issued alerts about high winds and flooding, so I went out and stood by the river. Hi, is Orville there? It turned cold again, so my pictures turned bad again.

March 8, 2022
I pay money to park in this garage. And the windows are dirty! At least my parking garage has public art. All I am saying is give peace a chance. JOHN LENNON All you need is love. JOHN LENNON

March 9, 2022
It snowed this morning, but I got out of bed anyway. The world right now. Moments ago, these water droplets were snowflakes. Guy on the left don`t need no hardhat. That fifth photo can sometimes be elusive.

March 10, 2022
Tapping your foot to a Latin band is challenging. You have to choose one of many simultaneous rhythms. I thought, `Too bad nobody is dancing,` and then they got up and started dancing. In the dark auditorium. I love taking photos of nature. A work of art.

March 11, 2022
I suspected the sign would disappear soon (see March 7 above). The sidewalk makes a comeback (see March 7 above). Washing away the residue of winter. Corinthian column capital. It`s friendship, friendship, just a perfect blendship. COLE PORTER

March 12, 2022
It`s a day to celebrate. Much of Wally`s young life involves opening presents. Big brother Joey knows the routine (see December 21, 2019). It was inevitable. He`s a sweet boy.

March 13, 2022
For an event on Sunday that lasted five hours, streets in the Oregon District were blocked the whole weekend. Pretending to be the Beastie Boys. Fifth Street`s adult establishments were briefly given a family-friendly veneer. Pretending to be David Bowie. Playing with fire.

March 14, 2022
City goose (branta urbansis). Shop window in the morning. Shop window in the morning, the sequel. Missing something? An unexpected preview of spring.

March 15, 2022
Flotation device. Follow me, follow, down to the hollow and there let us wallow in glorious mud. FLANDERS AND SWANN Night light. IU who? No matter what team, I`m drawn to the sound of a band.

March 16, 2022
My lunch has arrived. Where`s yours? Birds look better in profile than straight on. Perhaps a gentle exfoliant would be helpful. When streets in the Oregon District get blocked off, that results in more traffic elsewhere (see March 13 and 17). I take a lot of pictures of things I can`t explain.

March 17, 2022
I have a great idea: let`s block off the Oregon District! Oregon District residents are often in confinement. Please be seated. The weather is good but gas prices are bad, so I`ve been walking to work and that has improved my photos. He was playing Beethoven`s Fur Elise.

March 18, 2022
The phone number is the same (see March 10, 2019). Another public radio fundraiser is over. A good reason to celebrate. Not exactly sure what it is, but it was free so I ate it. My new camera will return soon and I can put this relic back on the shelf (see February 21, 2022).

March 19, 2022
March showers bring March flowers. A preview of many more flower photos to come. Windy. Soon to be the site of many wedding and prom photos. Looking for its next meal, so I didn`t stick around.

March 20, 2022
Spring tulips have no patience for last fall`s leaves. Today I saw my first honeybees of the year. Today I saw my first bumblebee of the year (although this one looks like it`s left over from last year). Today I saw my first butterfly of the year, but this was a better photo (see January 9, 2022). Life may be short, life may be long, but love will come, and to its song shall this refrain forever cling: of Spring, Spring, Spring! PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR

March 21, 2022
What`s the point? Man vs. nature. I think it`s finished (see August 5, 2021). It`s motorcycle season in the Oregon District. I`m grateful to be outside in the sun for another spring!

March 22, 2022
Dayton, Ohio: city of endless mystery. There was a sidewalk under there (see March 11 above)? A preview of many more duck photos to come (see March 19 above). At this time of year, even the Great Miami River can kill you (see April 20, 2021). Like Edward Weston, I sometimes eat my subjects.

March 23, 2022
Lone cone. I walked to work this morning and the weather was beautiful, but the afternoon was full of tornado warnings. I was already soaked by the time I took this. After I got inside, the weather cleared up. Some photos are worth getting rained on.

March 24, 2022
Nowadays I try to leave the car at home and walk to work, or I catch the Flyer. But today the Flyer flew past me standing at the bus stop. It was an unforgettable concert, so I won`t need photos to help me remember it. Red, white and blue. My pictures are repetitive, so I`m trying to branch out.

March 25, 2022
Happy anniversary, hole in the wall (see March 25, 2021). Progress report: none (see April 7, 2021). Somebody`s making money selling Ukrainian flags to sympathetic Americans. When there`s candy to eat, I eat candy. When there isn`t, I don`t. Though I`ve run out of raspberry tea mix, I will somehow find the strength to go on.

March 26, 2022
Today the UD Music Department presented a recital of songs based on poems by Paul Laurence Dunbar. The singers took us on an emotional journey. When I got to campus, I discovered that UD students were belatedly celebrating St. Patrick`s Day. The campus was so crowded that I had to park in a semi-legal space a long way from the recital hall. Soccer in the snow.

March 27, 2022
There was just one very large work on the concert. A big concert calls for my big camera. I used to sing with this choir many ages ago. Please note: I took this from the balcony. One of my best concert photos (but not as good as March 2, 2013, or December 11, 2011).

March 28, 2022
Bird One. Bird Two. Bird Three. Bird Four. Yes, I have Bird Five, but this shot is better.

March 29, 2022
My camera (and strap) came back from Europe (see March 18 above). Everything was returned -- plus a box of chocolate. These guys have been working on this corner for weeks. It`s a banner day in Dayton. I went for five weeks on my last tank of gas. I`ll try to make this one last even longer.

March 30, 2022
Walking to work this morning (to save gas), I avoided this street. I didn`t want to sneeze all day. Update: it is no longer fun to go formal (see September 22, 2020). Textures of downtown Dayton. Goodbye Garden Station (see June 10, 2015) because downtown Dayton needs another parking lot. I am grateful for life, health and springtime!

March 31, 2022
Welp, I done did it again. Bought another camera (see October 27, 2021). Today`s payday after all. The manual with the camera was only 25 pages long, but it did warn me `Swallowing the battery is dangerous.` The first photos taken with a new camera are often underwhelming. I`m trying to match the settings on my new camera to the one I bought five months ago. Please understand: this camera MAKES NO SOUND when it takes a picture.
