Although I had been up since 4:15am, I was ready to take pictures of fireworks at midnight. Disappointment! Another day of constant rain. Yes, it`s not snow, but . . . Maybe Pearl Sigler is who I see floating near the ceiling. I don`t care about college football, but I love buckeyes. This little light of mine.

While robins eat berries from the tree branches . . . . . . sparrows aren`t too proud to eat them off the ground. Will we face another year of confinement ahead? (See March 24, 2020) I kept waiting for Julio down by the schoolyard. It was my new camera`s first time outside in the snow.

January 3, 2022
I guess nobody rakes leaves anymore. Not unlike a cat, I like to sit in the sun. It was cold, but I had to get outside for a while. The human sundial indicates that it`s 4:37pm. So I guess `the holidays` end for me tonight.

January 4, 2022
Taken accidentally while showing off my camera. `Clean your office you must.` Coffee is not part of my life, but I know the OFF switch. We could all use a little calibration now and then. This is as good as it gets on a cold winter night.

January 5, 2022
Obstacle course on Third Street. Jaywalking and jayriding. I`m the most prepared person you know: getting ready for a portrait shoot the next day. This is the time of year when I take pictures of guitars. Shouldn`t there be more to BILTMORE?

January 6, 2022
Life is full of challenges: somebody put chunks of concrete in the trash cans. If your furnace is working, consider yourself lucky. Taken accidentally during today`s portrait shoot. Nobody knows where my radio station is. I just tell them it`s next to the Victoria. When there`s no raspberry tea, apple juice will do.

The ideal workplace is organized. The ideal workplace is always looking toward the future. The ideal workplace is headed in the right direction. The ideal workplace is operating at peak efficiency. The ideal workplace is a warm environment.

It takes a long time for me to take down my Christmas decorations. After a risk/benefit assessment, I decided to stay home. Before. After. Before Olivia`s Restaurant closed in 2003, I picked up a pack of matches, knowing that I would need it in 2022.

January 9, 2022
I found Pearl Sigler`s bed in the basement (see January 1 above). A city sanitation worker like to express himself. A little damp, but still in good shape (see November 9, 2021). Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. What -- a photo that isn`t terrible? It`s been so long!

January 10, 2022
Did you read my letters? Chopin and Mozart go nose to nose. This was once a familiar landscape to me, but not anymore. The lights in my parking garage are still not working (see November 22, 2021). This isn`t what I expected to get -- it`s better.

January 11, 2022
No, that`s fine, I didn`t need the crosswalk (see April 6, 2021). Taking the human for a walk. I don`t want to go out. I want to stay in, and get things done. DAVID BOWIE I`m freezing cold. Can I wear a hoodie over my hoodie? The world`s smallest tube of toothpaste.

January 12, 2022
The world is full of generous gifts. It was 45 degrees outside. I nearly wept. The construction zone is a temporary photo exhibition. The sculpture has been repaired, though there`s a large crack in the new installation (see August 30, 2021). The condition of my soul in January.

January 13, 2022
Peanut butter yesterday, stale bread today. The universe is kind. Keeping an eye on Main Street. Winter wraith. Big Brother is watching you. Sanctioned graffiti.

January 14, 2022
The mouth of the abyss. Are you missing something? A small slice of winter. Brain fog. Young actors.

January 15, 2022
Making a mess in the bathtub. Splish splash, I was takin` a bath. BOBBY DARIN You can`t focus on something that isn`t there yet (like a falling drop of water) so you have to focus in advance. Many bad pictures were taken to get a few good ones. It was cold outside, so I took my photos indoors today.

January 16, 2022
Errand 1. Errand 2. Errand 3. And then it started to snow, so no more errands. Straight from Mexico.

January 17, 2022
My sidewalk next, buddy? All cleaned up and nowhere to go. Missed the curve just a bit. What 28 degrees looks like. This will all be gone tomorrow. I hope.

January 18, 2022
I hope it`s heated. Nothing will hold it back. If you`re one of those people who likes snow, it`s probably better if you don`t tell me. There`s not much to see at ground level. Send away for my easy stuffed mushroom recipe.

January 19, 2022
Year after year after year it remains vacant. Step by step, spring is getting closer. Somewhere in America. Outside. Inside.

January 20, 2022
Lots of squirrels chased each other noisily around the roof this morning. We need more hawks around here. It`s 9:55am, obviously. No. Too cold. Dude, call in sick. Flat tire? No problem. Just drive faster! I have squirrels outside my window. Other people have starlings.

January 21, 2022
Cold morning, Dayton! The condition of my soul in January. If my workplace had windows, that`s where I would be. Remember when I used to take good photos? Universal precautions.

January 22, 2022
It is with solemnity and satisfaction that I reply to and then delete this e-mail from July 2020. Following a period of rest and reflection, I will consider answering the one from August. Laundry is the winter is a science lesson on static electricity. In response to January 20 above, a hawk just flew by. There are no squirrels in sight. I just figured out that Paul Laurence Dunbar was born around here, within walking distance from my house. Looking for the mail carrier to bring me a package.

January 23, 2022
Problem. Solution. This stuff is great on pumpkin pie. For those hard-to-reach spots. Pictures I take when it`s too cold to go outside.

January 24, 2022
I don`t get it when people complain about working from home. At this point, I`d be happy to just work from my car. For softly and merrily now there come playing the little white birds thro the winter-kissed air. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR Good thing I shaved yesterday. Nobody can see it. The nightly pickup truck in the crosswalk (see January 11 above).

January 25, 2022
No snow today (see January 24 above) but I`d still rather work from home. All right, I`ll try not to complain about the cold. High atop one of Dayton`s tallest building: see the falcon nest box, with two webcams, in the bottom left corner. It`s all about the details. Can I complain about the cold now?

January 26, 2022
Through the frigid air came the piercing sound of a woodpecker. The condition of my soul in January. First the bridge, then the road, then my face. Whatever you`re doing down there can probably wait until it`s at least 25 degrees. I walk past a parking garage that has lights that work, on the way to my parking garage with lights that don`t work (see January 10 above).

January 27, 2022
I was in the room where it happens, but I didn`t go. I was just there to take some pictures and go home. Whatever time I`m told to arrive to take pictures, I get there earlier. I camped out in front of the stage so everybody else had to take pictures over my shoulder. Meanwhile, the people who thought they could arrive 20 minutes before the show got stuck in a traffic jam, punctuated by emergency vehicles.

January 28, 2022
My kingdom for a VGA cable! No, we won`t play `Wonderwall.` The loud part of Liszt`s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2. The kitchenware I purchased in 1989 is still working fine. An ideal world would include pizza at least once a day.

January 29, 2022
It was here that the game began to slip away from WSU. There were twelve cars in the parking lot when I arrived. I was able to sit as close to the court as I wanted. No cheerleaders, no band, no big crowd. Just Rowdy Raider. The visiting team led by a lot, so they brought out players from deep on their bench. A girls` team drove a long way to see one of their former players, and she dominated the game.

January 30, 2022
January photos rarely make my Top Shots of the Year. Welcome to the Oregon District. Don`t park in my space. Somethin`s comin`, somethin` good, if I can wait. Somethin`s comin`, dunno what it is, but it is gonna be great. STEPHEN SONDHEIM Ready for anything. There was discord among the neighborhood crows.

January 31, 2022
Sailing by the river. The tip of the iceberg. It was sunny but cold. There was disagreement over who the leader was. This building isn`t quite finished.
