It`s beginning to sound a lot like Christmas. I`ve got my eye on you. Just the one eye. My arm is sore, and that makes me happy. Pictures of food are just about as desperate as I get. I can`t drink raspberry tea every day.

Autumn in the city. Find yourself a duck who will look at you like that. Wilbur or Orville? Christmas rodent. No one`s ever really alone with a smartphone.

A crown of steel he bore -- the Lord of the Nazgul. J. R. R. TOLKIEN I crossed the street to avoid walking out of the sunlight. I need to get my wagon worked on before winter. They knocked down a building I didn`t like and replaced it with a building we didn`t need. It was an urban day.

Northmont Thunderbolts. Wayne Warriors. Centerville Elks. Springboro Panthers. Miamisburg Vikings.

Green fronds have appeared (see November 21, 2021). Always late to the party. It was inevitable. Dad uses leaf blower to propel skateboarding daughter along the sidewalk. Dayton is the home of invention. The Oregon District: a little tattered, a bit dirty, but putting on its best face.

Stage One of Winter: Denial. `They said it`s not going to get really cold this year.` Stage Two of Winter: Anger. `WHY IS IT SO COLD? THIS IS JUST STUPID!` Stage Three of Winter: Bargaining. `Since it`s cold today, that means it`ll be warmer tomorrow.` Stage Four of Winter: Depression. `No. I`m not going anywhere until April.` Stage Five of Winter: Acceptance of Anger. `WHY IS IT STILL SO COLD? THIS IS JUST STUPID!`

I was lucky to see a mini-Nutcracker performance. The dancing and costumes were very impressive. I was close enough to nearly get kicked in the head. Recognize the tile floor (see June 23, 2021)? And then it started snowing inside the Arcade.

December 8, 2021
Don`t get the wrong idea: I hate being out in the cold. The Dayton Arcade is decorated for Holly Days. The place was packed, so taking pictures was difficult. Yes, it`s still snowing inside (see November 7 above). I went outside to get out of the snow.

Feasting on cicadas in May, choking down seeds in November. Underappreciated and underpaid. Concepts of Christmas are really messed up. When I turn off the lights in the radio studio. I`m ready for spring, in more ways than one (see May 29, 2021).

`Tis the season for singing and eating. Keeping tradition alive. Helping daddy strum chords. Wallace Anthony -- but his friends call him Wally. Everyone needs a song book (see December 8, 2019).

Let our eyes be as children`s are, ever searching for a star. MARY KAY BEALL The king of instruments. The instrument that sounds like a human voice. Clap your hands! Tacocat spelled backwards is tacocat.

The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light. ISAIAH 9:2 Tip to aspiring photographers: not everything in your picture should be in focus. It was a full house -- twice. Betelehemu, ilu ara [Bethlehem, the city of wonder]. Reading books and playing cards are KCC traditions.

That Monday feeling. This year, the Nutcracker statues are chained down (see December 18, 2020). Shiny happy buildings. A little color to brighten your day. No swimming.

December 14, 2021
This suddenly attached itself to the side of a 155-year-old building. A little color to brighten your day. Not a bad day to be working outside in December. To me, working means sitting on a chair in a room. Man versus Nature.

December 15, 2021
Ten days before Christmas, my true love gave to me a cardinal in a shrubbery. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. LUKE 2:19 Good advice from Arby`s: When in doubt, add bacon. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. DYLAN THOMAS If you plant a bird seed, will it grow into a bird?

We all have our crosses to bear. Reflections on mortality. Self-renewal. It was already like that when I got here. Which came first: the pistachio car or the pistachio building?

December 17, 2021
I went to visit Paul this evening. The room where it happened. Mother Dunbar was fixing up something in the kitchen. `We wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year!` Eight days `til Christmas.

December 18, 2021
The drumming . . . went on . . . all day. Not quite sure what was going on, but I took pictures. Something`s cooking at The Corner Kitchen (closed since June 2020). As before, not sure what it is, but took pictures anyway. It`s risky to stand underneath a murmuration.

Wreaths Across America visited the Dayton National Cemetery yesterday. Volunteers did THIS several thousand times. But the graves far outnumbered the wreaths. This granite pedestal bearing the words, `Pro Patria.` What do they mean, anyway? EDGAR LEE MASTERS There are many things to consider in this image.

From the seventh level, I can see everything. I don`t like parking meters, but I would never harm one. There are so many reasons why I couldn`t do that. Sunny but cold on the last day of autumn. This is the same window that was replaced on January 22, 2021. And that`s a lot of canned goods in the corner.

December 21, 2021
This morning, I had an unexpected visit from Jack Hammer. Donate money to my radio station, and you can get this. Devil`s food is appropriately named. Normal. Abnormal.

December 22, 2021
`Do you smell carrots? I always smell carrots.` Yesterday someone brought cupcakes, and today it`s cookies. Maybe tomorrow they`ll bring figgy pudding. The Halloween decorations came down next door and the Christmas decorations went up immediately. The lost art of shop window decoration. Twenty seconds along Sixth Street.

December 23, 2021
The parking garage is empty. Am I the only one who has to work today? Wandering around aimlessly in the sun is one of my greatest pleasures. Wandering around aimlessly, I come upon some interesting things. Cold ice, warm hearts. Donate money to my radio station, and you can get this.

There was a line of cars by the woods, so I had a feeling I might see a bald eagle. A busy night ahead. If I could find something more interesting to take pictures of, believe me I wood. Where angel hair pasta comes from. We`re all a little past our prime.

December 25, 2021
Before. After. Bring a fork, Jeannette Isabella. Modern Christmas. So many toys, so little time.

December 26, 2021
Fight, flight or pose. Be on the lookout for someone with orange hands. I appreciate details most people don`t even notice. It was a beautiful, warm and sunny Boxing Day. Taking a well-deserved day off.

December 27, 2021
I think it was vaguely aware of me high overhead. Looking forward to March . . . April . . . etc. I saw a moth go fluttering by, but that was about it. Raw material for next year`s regeneration. We live in a disposable society.

December 28, 2021
All day. A crowbar is uncomfortably close to my car windows. I went outside, but never left the porch. What really happened to Wilbur in `Charlotte`s Web.` Someone`s gonna have to finish these.

December 29, 2021
When I`m at work, I look at lots of screens. Then when I go home, I look at different screens. The state bird of Ohio. A slow-moving renovation is happening at the Biltmore. Wow, the lights actually work in this parking garage (see November 22, 2021). You should probably follow Daily Dunbar on Facebook.

December 30, 2021
I was nowhere near when it happened. Really. It was a drippy day. O tannenbaum, how ugly are thy branches. I decided to try something unusual today, so I walked through the Oregon District. Remnant of autumn.

December 31, 2021
Some people go crazy for New Year`s Eve. It was even more drippy than yesterday. The only living creature in the park (well, besides me). Not a living creature. Until next year.
