It`s September and fall is in the air and on the ground. This isn`t even the whole thing (see August 5, 2021). It stopped raining finally. But the evidence remains. Claude the carpenter posed for a picture and then gave me his business card so he could get a copy of it.

On a busy city sidewalk with human drama all around. Wandering road. My camera warned me that the lights were flickering. I was planning to take pictures of a jazz performance tonight, but it was canceled -- so you get my shadow. Things fall apart.

This was a concert, but it felt like a pep rally. The UD fight song is part of my musical DNA. The Pride of Dayton marching band includes students from the University of Dayton, Sinclair and Wright State. Youthful enthusiasm. I vaguely remember it. Standing right next to a piccolo, all you hear is piccolo.

During a two-day volleyball tournament, I made sure to go to the game that would have the fewest spectators. I take hundreds of photos and sometimes get lucky. Ball State had more reasons to celebrate than DePaul. Why DePaul lost (slide 1). Why DePaul lost (slide 2).

And now for something completely different. I just took the pictures. She provided the awesome. I would never tell someone to scale a building. But if they do scale a building, I might as well take pictures of it. In some photos, everything just comes together nicely. I know nothing about superheroes. She was the expert.

I heard goldfinches squeaking when I got near the park. Little bugs are important. Bumbling its way toward the center. I was looking for monarchs, but will take a cloudless sulphur. I spend my mornings among the birds, bugs and blooms.

I hope this brings some sparkle to your day. Traffic through downtown can get really heavy. I hope this brings some splash to your day. Today`s theme: water. If you wonder if you`re being watched, you probably are.

Keep the clouds, lose the buildings. Reflections on downtown Dayton. Clouds and buildings. Maybe I should have been wearing a hardhat. Trapped in the parking garage, confused by windows.

September 9, 2021
My first evening visit to the Dayton Art Institute in years. You can listen to my voice here on weekday afternoons. Bobby Darin lives. I found another one (see June 30, 2021). Things I deliberately avoid, he deliberately seeks out.

Morning on the tenth hole. He helps find lost golf balls. When 64 golf carts start off, just stay out of the way. Be the ball, Danny. This is a lot harder than it looks on TV.

It sounded like a summer night from the 1920s. Not Bix Beiderbecke. Not Jack Teagarden. Not Artie Shaw. Not Django Reinhardt.

September 12, 2021
The Guitar Man must be nearby. The Guitar Man. There was more plastic blowing around at the same time, but this was just the most photogenic. She was screaming, but I think she was having fun. I`m not sure feeding the birds is really helping the birds.

September 13, 2021
By mid-September it`s easy for me to see the sunrise. As this bird ate seeds, I was being eaten by mosquitoes. Calling all bees. There were so many mosquitoes that wanted to bite me, they had to get in line and take a number. Drippy details.

September 14, 2021
Yes, it feels that way sometimes (see November 10, 2019). Bug 1. Bug 2. Bug 3. I hereby renounce all previous monarch photos. This is the only kind of cat I like.

If someone`s birthday is on the 21st, and you give them a cupcake on the 16th, they will be surprised. I hate it when people go into the alley and smoke. Contemplating the significance of its feathered existence. Battle scars. He made it clear he wanted a tip instead of a photo.

September 16, 2021
Don`t worry, my parking garage is safe from moths. City flowers. City corn. The Idiot Driver of the Day (see October 23, 2020). My camera bag doubles as a cookie bag.

September 17, 2021
I fled a challenging day at work and did something else. It was a small, casual fashion show at a shopping mall. When there`s only one photographer, they look at me. Walking on a runway is harder than it looks. This was an unexpected bonus after the show ended.

September 18, 2021
By mid-September it`s easy for me to see the sunset (see September 13 above). It`s pronounced RAY-noh, not ren-ALT. Of course, Cathy Ponitz would get married at the Levitt. That`s where she and her husband had their first date. I photographed the Ohio Players for two minutes before I was crushed by the crowd and had to be airlifted out. Time for renewal (see May 24, 2021).

September 19, 2021
At the gate there was a list of people who could get in for free. I said, `Do you have a Mr. Smith?` but they didn`t fall for it. Aspiring sports photographers: look for your shadow on the ground, then point your camera in the same direction. Don`t shoot into the sun, as we see here. It was a very physical game. The best action photos often lead to nothing, while the goal-scoring pictures can be dull. Air Force One kept circling overhead, so the President is apparently a fan of collegiate soccer.

Thus begins a series of rainy day photos. Painting a column yellow won`t prevent someone from driving into it. If the rain is outside and I`m inside, then all is well. It`s supposed to rain again tomorrow. A walnut stashed by a squirrel for future use.

September 21, 2021
Drips and more drips. Another day of rain, but at least I got outside. As long as they keep blooming, I`ll keep shooting them. By the time you see this photo, the flower will be gone. I`m not sure leaving donuts for homeless people is really helping homeless people (see September 12 above).

September 22, 2021
Day three of rain. People evidently live, eat and sleep inside my parking garage, so I wonder if the smelly mothballs are intended to keep them away (see September 16 above). Here in my car I feel safest of all. GARY NUMAN What did humanity do to deserve watermelon? This preserves the illusion that I wash dishes.

September 23, 2021
To get a volleyball picture that looks like this, I have to take a lot of volleyball pictures that don`t look like this. Ready for anything. By sitting close to the court, I can get good action shots -- and I can also get a ball in the face. `Here, let me help you with that.` Every point was a battle, and Springboro won the war.

September 24, 2021
I`ve never seen so many monarchs in one place before. Besides monarchs, the prairie was full of cheepers. I had lots of pictures of monarchs on yellow flowers, so I started telling them `Land on purple!` It must`ve worked. The air was full of fluttering wings. Today I met an enthusiastic photojournalist in training.

September 25, 2021
It was a beautiful day to be out. I didn`t get rained on! At this point, I`d be screaming `Stop the ride, I want off!` Every few minutes, a monarch butterfly went fluttering by. It was a day worth remembering. Fall has fallen and equestrian season is winding down.

September 26, 2021
I went to Paul Laurence Dunbar`s house, but he wasn`t home. But I caught up with Paul down the street (and his typewriter [see September 30, 2006]). He asked me how much my camera cost. `I need to get a camera so I can take pictures of the pretty women.` This building looks a lot better (see July 14, 2021). `Hey, take a picture of me with Jimi!`

September 27, 2021
Superheroes walk among us. Someone to watch over me. You have yourself and the river. That`s all you need. An ugly construction site looks better reflected in a pool. Head in the clouds.

September 28, 2021
If you`re a fish, avoid the kingfisher`s bill. Watch out for the heron`s bill too. Please wait until the FASTEN SEATBELT light turns off. Just one more bird. Have a sparkly day.

High school drama has comedy. High school drama has danger. High school drama has romance. High school drama has teamwork. High school drama has drama.

September 30, 2021
A cat way up in a tree, looking for squirrels. Finally we have new signs (see February 14, 2020). We were both heading home for the evening. A moronic human being was using a little remote-controlled boat to chase ducks away from the river. I couldn`t make out what he was playing.
