March 1, 2021
I`d turn back if I were you. Coming or going? Hopefully going. Building new walls, which will eventually be knocked down (see February 12, 2021). What, no surfers? Too bad my calendar is still blank (see February 20, 2020).

March 2, 2021
My downstairs neighbor. Lunch. A picture of a clock, obviously. Aspire to be your best. About a mile away, there`s a car casting this shadow.

March 3, 2021
What the melting snow revealed on the sidewalk. Harsh sunlight usually makes taking photos challenging. Waiting for the concrete truck. Hmmm . . . lightning strike, and then a fallen branch? If I was an elementary school kid: watching geese in the river instead of playing with the other kids during recess.

March 4, 2021
The memory of my colleague Hank Cates still lives on. There were shells involved in dinner tonight. This was included in my grocery order by mistake (see June 11, 2020). Who would ingest something like this? How am I even still driving right now? Twenty-six dollars later.

March 5, 2021
UNITED States? Wow, what would that be like? It`s warm and sunny. Can you understand my joy? Patiently waiting for my turn. Welcome. This was right in front of a shop that sells shoes.

March 6, 2021
Hopefully they can tell each other apart because I can`t. Getting an early start on springtime. How much wood would a wood duck duck if a wood duck could duck wood? On the back: `Smile! Jody Rife 2020.` Single, but waiting for that special someone.

March 7, 2021
Maybe the same guys as seen on February 21, 2021. America`s Stonehenge. Gulls have retractable landing gear. In any language, this can mean only one thing. I went to the grocery store, but brought my own bags (see November 15, 2020).

March 8, 2021
Just because a lot of people do something doesn`t mean it`s right (see December 8, 2020). My commute is a lot easier than his. I stay out past sundown now. There will be ducklings soon. I can tell if anyone is coming up behind me.

March 9, 2021
Waiting for the library to open. Standing around the library. Sitting around the library. I can see clearly now. I figured out THIS WEEK that LAST WEEK was probably the last week that I`ll have little to do.

March 10, 2021
It feels good to get outside and be active again. Reminds me of some committee meetings I`ve been in. It`s nearly tulip time. This one is real, but in a planter. The kingfisher`s bill is built for one purpose, and it`s bad news for fish. Protecting the kid from the turtles, or the turtles from the kid?

March 11, 2021
Arts and crafts time. An oldie but goodie (see March 28, 2012). Double mat: twice as good as single mat, obviously. I`m such a do-it-yourselfer. Ready for you to buy it.

March 12, 2021
The studio of kinetic artist Terry Welker. What if it falls? He`s rising in his job (see March 3 above). Progress report (see January 22, 2021). Do what the bus tells you (see November 12, 2020).

March 13, 2021
Stuff Squirrels Eat, Part One. When crocuses last in the dooryard bloom`d. Progress report (see February 20, 2021). Check this out. One year ago, Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT from Louisville, was shot to death by police while she slept.

March 14, 2021
Stuff Squirrels Eat, Part Two. Walking around, trying to figure it out, they ALMOST sat in it like they`re supposed to (see December 18, 2018) I can`t believe how some people vote the way they do. There`s a lost dog in a Batman costume running around. The mood on Fifth Street was much lighter today than it was yesterday. Not as many guns.

March 15, 2021
Cold. Hot. Cold. Sweet. New.

March 16, 2021
At least it`s not snow. Where I work, you`re likely to see ballerinas prancing down the sidewalk, or a rack of costumes rolling across the street. It was a photo finish. Red car at a red light. The first thing I read in my new book -- was a mistake.

March 17, 2021
At least it`s not snow. I`d be reluctant to climb into any contraption that had so many red DANGER stickers on it. We interrupt this pledge drive for a birthday party. Happy St. Patrick`s Day! (See March 13 above) `I`m not going to smile. Just show my hair.`

March 18, 2021
I was given three different stickers before getting stuck. I`m gonna get fat (see March 15 above). Fiery exit. It`s pledge drive time, so I get out my special shirt. Yes, it`s still winter.

March 19, 2021
Lost another one. Vacancy. The neighborhood falcon. Double trouble. Another pledge drive ends successfully. I talked more this week than I have in six months (see September 18, 2020).

March 20, 2021
Spring has sprung. Maybe I was a bee in a previous life. A worm`s worst nightmare. Mi amigo Miguel. Watch for my sign. BATMAN

March 21, 2021
Spring flowers are better than fall leaves, and DON`T EVEN TALK TO ME about winter snow. The definitive daffodil. And don`t forget to look up. I made it through another winter. I wasn`t sure I would. May you enjoy a long and productive life, little guy.

March 22, 2021
Other people`s celebrations (see March 14 above). Don`t do it! There`s no lifeguard on duty. The swings are back (see April 8, 2020). Pandemic`s over! A heron in stealth mode. If there`s a patch of green grass in downtown Dayton, someone will build a hotel or apartment building on it.

March 23, 2021
My brief commute to work has been disrupted. Pictures of me doing my job would be pretty dull. The garage is falling apart, but I park there every day. Looking for the most obtrusive place to build a nest (see April 22, 2020). The dog isn`t wearing a sock this time (see January 19, 2021).

March 24, 2021
The sheer joy of throwing rocks in the water. His shirt said WILD BOY. Other people`s photo shoots. Looks like rain. Today I saw a gull duck, but I`ve never seen a duck gull. Anti-gravity boy.

March 25, 2021
Urban turf wars. A van is cheaper than a billboard (see February 27, 2007). Somebody drove their car through the garage wall and onto the sidewalk below (see March 23 above). Oh well, at least it`s not so dark inside the garage now. Beware of a giant yellow spider.

March 26, 2021
Souvenirs of yesterday`s parking garage disaster. I hope I`ll get to see my friend Victoria again pretty soon. Welcome to the Oregon District! Our streets will be blocked every weekend for the next SEVEN MONTHS. Time for the dangerous driving to resume! What is it about pickup truck drivers (see September 12, 2020)? Because of the barricades, this fire truck had to drive down my street in reverse. It was actually impressive.

March 27, 2021
The street lamp in front of my building stopped working. An Oregon District resident (not a city employee) fixed it. If they finish building a little photo studio, I may be back. I had to wait in line to take pictures of the turtles (see March 10 above). They`re going to a lot of trouble. I hope she says yes. My first butterfly photo of the season usually isn`t this coherent (see April 12, 2006; April 20, 2008; March 23, 2009; March 30, 2010; March 29, 2013; April 17, 2014; March 29, 2017; and April 2, 2020).

March 28, 2021
And this is only the first weekend of Out on Fifth. It`s disheartening to think about what might lie ahead. When Oregon District residents express concerns about dangerous drivers and parking violations, we`re told that the solution is to put up more signs. Signs don`t work. I hope those are REALLY secure. I`ve been seeing lots of orange lately. I`d turn back if I were you.

March 29, 2021
What did I tell you? See March 23 above. 111 Tell me about it. Geese don`t have a stealth mode (see March 22 above). Everything gets worse.

March 30, 2021
Performance Place casts its shadow over downtown. The Dayton Arcade is coming back to life. We all need our privacy. The Americans with Disabilities Act became law in 1990. City Hall will have an accessible entrance by fall 2021. No estimate on when the entrance to my parking garage will be back in service (see March 25 above).

March 31, 2021
Good mourning. Because the entrance to my decrepit garage is blocked, I`ve had to walk through a much newer and nicer garage. It`s springtime in the city. After a winter break, my tomato intake has picked up (see October 5, 2020). I never go anywhere without my purse.
