Hmm, that can`t be good. Me hiding from the hot sun. It has rained a lot lately. Tomorrow`s breakfast. On Mondays from 8 - 11pm, I listen to the second-best show on the radio: Equinox on WYSO hosted by Duante Beddingfield.

Daisy dweller. The secret of the spiderwort. Dewdrop drinker. I`m glad other people work hard to plant flowers, so I can come along and take pictures of them. Grass gobbler.

July 3, 2019
My best days begin outdoors in the morning. I walk around quietly in the beauty of nature. There are no words to say, and nobody to hear them. The birds, beasts and bugs take only what they need. And then I go reluctantly into the human world, where people will take as much as they can get.

July 4, 2019
Freedom from want. They were hot from the oven and oh they smelled good. Everything we raise up will eventually fall down. Dayton is the heart of it all. This car is as old as I am. I`m just amazed it still runs.

July 5, 2019
Did you hear the one about the three-legged cat -- oh yeah, you did (see September 22, 2018). We worship our cars and sacrifice everything for them, so it only makes sense that we build them temples too. There was nobody around, as if it was still a holiday. The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls. PAUL SIMON I saved the beauty for last.

July 6, 2019
A male ebony jewelwing damselfly. We spent a lot of time together, and this is the best of 25 photos I took. Little bird on the prairie. I was dripping with sweat, sneezing, and getting bitten by mosquitoes, but a photo like this makes it worthwhile. We were both surprised to see each other. Since it`s Saturday, I didn`t have to interact with humans after my quiet walk through nature (see July 3 above).

My mistress` eyes are nothing like the sun. Coral is far more red than her lips` red. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE I heard a mermaid on a dolphin`s back uttering such dulcet and harmonious breath that the rude sea grew civil at her song. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE Here in her hairs the painter plays the spider and hath woven a golden mesh to entrap the hearts of men. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE Her grace sat down to rest awhile. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE Youth, beauty, wisdom, courage, all that happiness and prime can happy call. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

July 8, 2019
Her lips so vanisheth as smoke from Aetna, that in air consumes. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE When you depart from me, sorrow abides and happiness takes his leave. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE There vanish`d in the sunbeams. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE I`m very sorry to sit here at this present, and behold that chair stand empty. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE Farewell, pretty lady. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

When I was a child, I was told I could capture a bird by putting salt on its tail. All I really need is a 200mm lens. The morning buzz. In the Oregon Historic District, everything`s so -- historic. Where`s the bee? Sunrise on Jones Street.

July 10, 2019
My ability to take good photos is directly related to what time I get out of bed. I got up before this little guy did. Butterflies are pretty, until you get REALLY close. I had to get my knees wet for this shot. Apparently I like taking closeup pictures of bugs. I`m sure there`s a bug somewhere in this photo.

July 11, 2019
The kestrel is North America`s smallest falcon. As I was eating dinner, I heard a propeller plane circling. I had a good idea what that meant, so I rushed outside. I am NOT buying you another ice cream! I usually feel like I`m different and I don`t fit in. Staying cool on a hot day.

July 12, 2019
Summer morning on the prairie. Contrasts. In the morning, butterflies are content to sit in the sun. I thought this was a pretty good dragonfly photo . . . . . . and then I got this one.

July 13, 2019
Possibly the same bug and same leaf as July 6 above. It looks like it`s worried about something. Possibly the same bug and same flower as July 6 above. In today`s photography class, I was like a safari guide, pointing out things for the students to take pictures of. It was a perfectly beautiful morning at Aullwood Garden.

July 14, 2019
Going up is easy. Coming down is the hard part. Roller derby can be played outdoors too. Remember the chariot race from `Ben Hur`? Some wore pads and helmets, others lived dangerously. Skating is a family affair.

July 15, 2019
Oh, say can you see by the dawn`s early light what so proudly we hailed at the twilight`s last gleaming? FRANCIS SCOTT KEY Little crumbs were falling around me, so I glanced up and saw a squirrel eating what looks like a chicken wing. Beauty in the alleyway. That was close. Almost hit me. When I`m in the paint I play with that Alonzo style. LIL BOW WOW

July 16, 2019
About a block from the muddy handprint of January 24, 2006. Maybe it wasn`t a chicken wing after all (see July 15 above). It`s a birthday cake! No! Stay on the chair. I`m NOT going to pet you. I warned him not to go swimming.

July 17, 2019
Someone`s witty vandalism made me laugh. This Web page is just a fountain of creativity. Someone will live in the Arcade. It might as well be me. See, they`ve already put restrooms in the Arcade. Ballerinas at rest.

July 18, 2019
Even horribly repugnant bugs get thirsty. There are usually a few high school age kids working in this garden. I`m so grateful that they don`t speak to me. At this point, I was crouching in the grass like a leopard. Have you met my friend Lily? Sleeping bees are easy to photograph.

July 19, 2019
Aretha Franklin is dead. Long live Amber Knicole. MoJoFlo is a powerhouse neo-funk band from Columbus. The lead singer has many talents. MoJoFlo is a photogenic band (see August 31, 2018). THIS is why I came out into the heat and humidity.

July 20, 2019
Early up, early out, and early back in to where it`s cool. Bugs, dewy plants and colors. Breakfast on the go. When a hummingbird appears, nothing else matters. I chased three tiger swallowtails through the park. They sat briefly and uncomfortably on other flowers but rested contentedly on black-eyed susans.

July 21, 2019
This heron probably won`t catch any fish in the grass. The river fountains are supposed to be spraying now. You cannot fathom my bitter disappointment. Love lasts forever (or at least until someone with bolt cutters comes by). Put you best face forward. What`s up in the Oregon District.

July 22, 2019
Nature photography. I haven`t yet exhausted the topic of bees on flowers. I carried an umbrella with me just in case. What if you gave a concert and only a duck showed up? After last week`s brutal heat, today it`s actually chilly.

July 23, 2019
That`s fine, I didn`t want to use the crosswalk anyway. A quiet quacker. I like photographing water, but prefer to stay dry. Other people don`t mind getting wet. SURF DAYTON!

July 24, 2019
The most precious substance on Earth. Goldfinches usually aren`t this relaxed. A barking chipmunk sounds as loud as a car alarm. You better not fool with a Bumblebee! Ef you don`t think they can sting -- you`ll see! JAMES WHITCOMB RILEY It hovered nearby and evaluated me and my camera.

July 25, 2019
The comedic highlight of my day came while watching these two chase each other around. When I hear voices shouting loudly in Spanish, I know that a roofing job is being done somewhere nearby. Unexpected treasure at the bus stop. From a long distance I saw a crane rising high above the buildings and so I just wandered in that direction. The Sphinx of Fourth Street.

July 26, 2019
I worry about the floor collapsing under all the dancers. I`m a professional worrier. That dog IS NOT getting in the car! This dog has his own car. Alfie always travels in style (see July 7, 2010). I don`t care about Irish stuff on March 17, but I do in July (see July 28, 2018; July 28, 2017; July 30, 2016; July 24, 2015; July 25, 2014; July 26, 2013; July 28, 2012; and July 31, 2011). Gingers are plentiful at the Celtic Festival.

July 27, 2019
The biggest sunflower was about a foot across. Morning on the farm. Be your own color. We all just want a little freedom. Swallows can maneuver in the confined space of a barn.

July 28, 2019
Chipmunks usually aren`t this relaxed. Looks like Michael Bashaw has been here. King of the coneflower. I know this garden very well and can pretty much predict where I`ll find certain kinds of bugs, birds and beasts. See, a dragonfly just where I knew it would be.

July 29, 2019
A beachfront condo. Good morning, Sunshine! Fountain of youth. Walk into this building and you will become smarter. Everybody knows it`s windy.

July 30, 2019
Come on an` set a spell. A B, C? Oregon District HVAC system. I pay more attention to birds than I do to people. `Mmmm, chicken wings!` (see July 16 above).

July 31, 2019
It was a beautiful, quiet, mosquito-free morning on the prairie. It`ll be a long time before I get a better butterfly photo. It would occasionally look down at me with arrogance. I was chasing a butterfly and got this instead. I hate when my mouth`s full of bugs and the phone rings.
