Color guard in June? How did I get so lucky? These performers spun their flags and tossed their rifles just for one judge, a small audience and my camera. Some performers came very long distances to spend just a few minutes in front of the judge. My only regret was not bringing a cushion to sit on, because high school gym bleachers are uncomfortable. And now for something completely different.

Sibling love. That`s one popular kid. Pop-up book. Not everyone was invited to the party. Cousin love.

Instead of QUACK they give off a constant PEEP PEEP. Evening falls on the riverbank. On the edge of oblivion. I often feel like a bird struggling to live among humans. All I really want to do is be by myself outside in nature.

Are the glazing or spackling? The controversy rages on. They`re definitely glazing. Yield to pedestrians. Dayton has its bright shiny side and its dark underside. Sidewalk prairie.

Life cannot be suppressed. There`s all this dough. Three hundred and fifty Gs! Do you hear what I`m saying? It`s in this box, buried under this big W. You`ll see it! You can`t miss it! A big, big W! Wait, don`t tell me. I think I know what it`s going to say. `Where did you put your bike?` `At the sixteenth note.` A student driver learns a memorable lesson as a fire truck goes screaming past.

Thanks to Levitt Pavilion, this is Thursday night in downtown Dayton now. Last year on this spot, there were two bums and a squirrel. Concerts are free, but donations are happily accepted. She`s still enjoying her work (see July 3, 2008). A versatile percussionist. Downtown Dayton has a new living room at the Levitt.

That beak isn`t for eating seeds. I`m sometimes mystified at what other people do for fun. Lack of parental supervision. Gravity versus an eight-year-old boy. Gravity is winning. `Polka music` is a contradiction in terms.

This is the same plant, and quite possibly the same silver-spotted skipper, as seen on May 19, 2019. I find the consistency of flowers satisfying. Thank goodness they don`t change style from year to year. When the spider`s basement floods. A little moss will make the nest comfortable. Ants are really, really, really, really strong.

Other people`s photo shoots. How can she keep from singing? (See March 29, 2019) Top Secret, a jazz band from Dayton. Make it cry. In case you get hungry during the show.

I would`ve paid somebody to lay down on that bench. And then I almost got blown into the river. Oh, I thought it was going to say LOUIS XIV (see June 5 above). Blue means cold. Natural processes happen all around us.

The mother duck brought the ducklings closer to me on the (mistaken) assumption that I would give them food. I`m happy to report that the fish escaped the bumbling fisherman who, moments later, nearly hooked a cyclist. A more competent fisher was working upstream. What better sky is there than a June sky? With horns blowing savagely behind her: `How do I get to the library?`

I`m repeating myself (see June 14, 2018) but gladly so. Bless the pollinators. I noticed it just in time, or I might`ve gotten trapped. Nature`s fury. I was looking for hummingbirds, but found this instead.

The world would be better if cars hadn`t been invented. It was a cold winter day in June. You light up my life. I`d rather stay inside where it`s warm and dry. Remember this foot from August 19, 2018?

During my lunch break, I came this way specifically to walk across the bridge, but it was completely blocked. Today`s warm weather made up for yesterday. Sneak peak. Leaving on a jet plane, don`t know when I`ll be back again. JOHN DENVER As the blinds blew in the breeze, the dark shadows undulated like waves.

My soul, lost in the music`s mist, roamed, rapt, `neath skies of amethyst. While from a verdant vale I heard the piping of a love-lorn bird. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR If you could sit with me upon the shore today and hold my hand in yours as in the days of old. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR Poor withered rose, so like my heart, that wilts at sorrow`s cruel dart. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR The plant of freedom upward sprung and spread its leaves so fresh and young -- Its blossoms now are blowing. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR And the water into ripples breaks and sparkles as it spreads, like a host of armored knights with silver helmets on their heads. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR

A flood watch means I sit and watch it flood. The weather has become a negative factor in my life. Whatever is in those bags wouldn`t get me to go outside. Tonight I`m content just to stay inside and eat dinner. And admire some great photos (see May 27, 2019).

It rains every day now, so the river is high. This is a photogenic building. For here am I sitting in a tin can far above the world. Planet Earth is blue and there`s nothing I can do. DAVID BOWIE Stairway to oblivion. Thank you, honeybee, for all you do for us.

This cat could use a little coffee in its water dish. The bigger they are, the harder they fall (see February 1, 2015). I would`ve paid somebody to stand there (see June 10 above). Something wicked this way comes. `Macbeth` Act IV, Scene I, by WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE The Flower Duet.

Bug One. Bunny One. Bug Two. Bloom One. Beast One.

Why my teeth are blue. She plays trumpet with a Spanish accent. Flor de Toloache is a female mariachi band. Somehow, he got covered with chocolate sprinkles. She ate her ice cream and then helped daddy finish his shake.

Darth Skater is on hand for a roller derby triple header. Dahmer Doll is rocket-propelled. Reckless Ratchet is all about speed and agility. Raven Skatemore is a positive roll model for kids. Thanks for driving from Canada. Welcome to Dayton!

A delicious landscape. What time my print job was done. What time I submitted my print job. Why can`t Kinkos run the world? If you say there are two writing utensils, you`re stating a fact. If you say that one is better than the other, you`re giving your opinion. It`s important to know the difference. On rainy, busy days, I take pictures in the kitchen. When all else fails, take photos of the ceiling lights.

I`d say there`s a goose problem here. Bird bath. You better believe I had my umbrella in my pocket. You shouldn`t feed the ducks, but this guy needs help. Growing among the trees is a center of learning.

Plentiful sunshine. Making a mess never gets old. Most of our boundaries are self-imposed. Dayton from a low altitude. She has a two-dimensional personality.

Puff. Puff, Jr. Not my best cardinal picture. Normal. Who wants to be normal?

Sometimes I will lose all I have just to see what remains. THE ACCIDENTALS They`ve come a long way since they met as teenagers in high school orchestra. Earlier this year, all their equipment was stolen. Notice the microphone has a label with the band`s name on it. It made me very happy when she put on those glasses. The Accidentals: look them up and take a listen!

No one seemed to mind how close I got to the field. Notice my shadow in the foreground. `Hi, my name`s Shaun, and this is my knee.` (See June 22, 2017) This guy`s bloody nose resulted in a penalty kick goal for Dayton. The face you make when the ball has gotten past you and all you can do is hope it doesn`t go in the goal. There`s nothing like sports to bring people together.

June 29, 2019
There is justice in the world (see May 21, 2019). Dayton is known for two things: aviation and funk music. Thousands of people came out on a hot night for a concert by the Dayton Funk All-Stars. They blew the roof off of the Levitt Pavilion, and it doesn`t even have a roof. Did I mention it was hot?

Sunday sunflower. Calm and relaxed. Nervous and roving. Even with a full beak, it never stopped chirping. There were no other humans around, and I was glad.
