`Don`t ask me to go down there. I`m afraid of depths.` When the deep purple falls over sleepy garden walls. MITCHELL PARISH Planes can do that now but birds were way ahead of us. Is anyone ever glad to see a grackle? I don`t think so. Not to be confused with my photo of flying geese from yesterday (see April 30, 2019).

Teamwork. Elevation. Strength. Dramatic. Intermission.

The refrigerator looks at me in disappointment. `You really don`t need that piece of pie.` Nature gives us obvious clues that the purpose of life is to perpetuate life (see April 21, 2019). Pickin` in the park. Hissin` in the park. Disco will never die. It`s stayin` alive, stayin` alive!

May 4, 2019
It`s raining outside. It`s raining inside. Hungry? Thirsty? Ready for the Oregon District Weiner Dog Derby.

May 5, 2019
Sunny Sunday. Weed, flower, whatever . . . it looks good up close. A chipmunk was nearby, but I wisely went for the bee. Where pineapples come from. The last of the tulips.

In downtown Dayton, summer began today. I walked across the Main Street bridge for the first time in a long time (see December 6, 2018). The bridge is higher than it used to be, so I tripped. Your daily bird. Dayton is closed until further notice. Sorry for the inconvenience.

You were driving awfully fast. Where`s the fire? When the Arcade reopens, where will this guy go? When the Levitt reopens, where will this guy go? Ghosts never die, apparently. Product is sold by weight and not by volume.

May 8, 2019
Bookends. The Cincinnati Reds are 150 years old. This guy was way too good to be playing outdoors. It`s 73 degrees and everything`s beautiful. Bookends.

Falcons live high above, unconcerned about us below. Remember that scene when Richard Dreyfuss went into the spaceship in `Close Encounters of the Third Kind`? Lunch break. There`s a story here. There`s nothing deader than yesterday`s news.

Late bloomer. The plural of deer is deer. The plural of killdeer is killdeers. It was cold and windy and felt like winter. I remember when I first read `The Catcher in the Rye.` I was glad new trees had been planted downtown, but laughed that this is now an outdoor wedding venue. Pay no attention to the busses and ambulances going by.

Plans are being made -- once again -- for renovating the downtown Arcade. This time it just might happen. Plans from a previous -- unsuccessful -- attempt were still hanging around. How come only the tour guide gets a hard hat? This is a BEFORE photo. I`ll come back in two years and take the AFTER photo. New glass is going into the rotunda (see May 9 above).

Blondes and sunglasses (see March 15, 2009). It was raining, so we ran from one shelter to another. I held an umbrella over her as we walked outside, while I got rained on. She`s the one who needs to look good. I told her she looked like Uma Thurman. She said, `I hear that all the time.` This piano bench has never looked better.

Textures. There was one person listening to him perform. It was a cold and windy day, like March instead of May. Herons don`t like people nearby. Frankly, neither do I. Deforestation continues at an alarming pace.

May 14, 2019
It was a perfectly beautiful spring day. In case you didn`t notice him in the previous photo. Be glad those talons aren`t coming after you. Big, puffy, happy clouds. Fourth and Ludlow.

I tried, and failed, to create a picture on February 19, 2019. Sometimes failure is just delayed success. I hired someone else to make the picture for me. What a difference artistic talent makes! Ben Baugham painted this in less than two hours.

Where the term `gull-wing` comes from. Two gulls in a row. Lucky you. Not a gull. You`re welcome. The Northern Rough-winged Swallow is almost as difficult to photograph as the Passenger Pigeon. And then someone with a badge, a Taser and a gun questioned what I was doing with my camera and that kind of took the fun out of everything.

How is it possumble that this animal is in downtown? A Descent into the Maelstrom. More urban wildlife. Details in the garden. Watery, hazy, Monety.

Fountain: 1 second shutter speed. Fountain: 1/3200th of a second shutter speed. Water lilies without a polarizing filter. Water lilies with a polarizing filter. A polarizing filter helps to control reflections and glare.

Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE A woman in the park walked into a flower bed to take photos. Her little girl followed, and mom yelled at her. Later the same woman tried to take pictures of her daughter: `Smile. Sit still and smile. No, a REAL smile!` This is as good as it gets for bugs today. Irises: for a limited time only.

Cuteness. Happiness. Playfulness. Joyfulness. Youthfulness.

May 21, 2019
Reminds me of a prom dress. A small but important part of the world around us. Am I the only one who can see the sign? Am I the only one who hears the music? Can you hear the music?

May 22, 2019
Let`s just pretend that today never happened. Let`s just pretend that today never happened. Let`s just pretend that today never happened. Let`s just pretend that today never happened. Let`s just pretend that today never happened.

May 23, 2019
It was a perfect spring day. Do I have to go back inside? She was wondering, `Do I have to go back inside?` What a fowl picture. This is what I do during my lunch break. Do you remember who sang that song `I Ran`?

Infrastructure funding is stalled by partisan bickering. Two-dimensional Dayton. As we struggle and fail, they are effortlessly beautiful. Suddenly my neck hurts. Someone I don`t know walked up and started talking knowledgeably about my daily photography routine.

On this date in 2004, I bought this camera on a whim. It had 8MP of resolution, which seemed excessive at the time. The camera I used to take this photo is 30MP. It came with a memory card that had 64MB of capacity. This card could hold one photo from my current camera. The camera was easy for a beginner, but sophisticated enough that I had room to grow as I gained experience. This random purchase started my life in a new direction, so it still means a lot to me although I no longer use it.

Nature is a system that works best without human help. I did a lot of kneeling and crouching this morning. Anybody can take pictures of big things that are easily visible. I prefer to draw attention to smaller subjects. We`ve all been in that situation: on the diving board, too scared to jump off and too embarrassed to turn back. I was chasing color contrast in this shot.

If a face could launch a thousand ships, then where am I to go? That`s the way (uh-huh, uh-huh) I like it (uh-huh, uh-huh). And she ain`t got no worries, `cause she ain`t in no hurry at all. She`s really keen! She`s got electric boots, a mohair suit, you know I read it in a magazine (oh-oh). She makes everything groovy, wild thing!

May 28, 2019
Unfinished business. Post meridiem. Only 100,000 more rivets and this bridge will be DONE! It was either another flower closeup or another seagull. Flood warning in effect.

May 29, 2019
Human nature takes over when the traffic lights fail. Morning along the river. Don`t drink the water: untreated sewage is being diverted into the river. Red is the color of my true love`s dress. Your camouflage won`t help: I will find you.

May 30, 2019
Why people look at me funny when I take pictures. No more tornadoes, please. People are bringing their lawn chairs and blankets . . . . . . because it`s opening night at the Levitt Pavilion! How to get killed in downtown Dayton.

Another day, another triple-selfie. Another day, another rainbow unicorn in a puddle. It`s nest-building season and everything is fair game. My first daisy of the season is always worth noting. Sunrise at the tattoo parlor.
