My neighbor`s house was built when Millard Fillmore was president. For Lease. Immediate Occupancy. Don`t you hate it when you walk outside and find your car covered with leaves? If I`d gone to bed earlier, I`d have gotten up earlier, I`d have time to go someplace, and I`d take better photos. It`s not mine, of course, but I`m interested to see that there`s a camera mount on top of the helmet.

Waiting for when the last shall be first and the first shall be last, in a cardboard box beneath the underpass. BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN Instead of driving to work like a robot, I like to walk around outside in the morning with my camera, but I find so much more than pictures. ADAM ALONZO I was a daredevil swing jumper in sixth grade. Urban beautification. I take more pictures of birds than any other creature.

Taking a simple photo of a flower resulted in suspicion, probably because my camera is the size of a bazooka. She sells sea shells by the Great Miami River. Please build faster. I want to use the bridge. Thanks! A double-crested cormorant visits Dayton on its way to Florida or Bermuda for the winter. Can I come along? How do you feel about fish for lunch?

The Levitt Pavilion doesn`t have a roof, but still the Dayton Funk All-Stars blew the roof off the place tonight. I sometimes think that I know something about music, but tonight was a reminder that I don`t have a clue. Once again, an All Access pass allowed me to get pictures that nobody else could take. Dayton, Ohio, is the place to hear funk music. Everybody had a good time tonight at the Levitt.

`I`m crossing the street and the world needs to watch!` It was a good day to climb down a building. My fearless nephew (with his lovely bride) before he climbed down a 27-story building for a good cause. You`ve gotta carry your own happiness around with you. Itching for a fight.

Soon after the team ran onto the field, things went bad. Superman could`ve caught that pass for a touchdown, but Superman doesn`t go to Wright State University. Fumble, punt, interception: Wright State`s offense found a variety of ways to come up short today. The player who kicks extra points practiced on the sideline, but he wasn`t needed on the field. Not much to cheer about with the halftime score 21 - 0.

Golden hour actually lasts just a few minutes, and we almost missed it. She was driving from Chicago to Cincinnati, but pulled over in Dayton for a quick photo shoot. There were about 47 other photographers working in the park, so we had to compete for bench space. The beauty of autumn. I think this shot was worth the drive.

October 8, 2018
Some people like the fall season. Well, it takes all kinds. I would be that one anti-social gull. It`s just one selfie after another with me. I wasn`t eager to go outside in the hot sun this afternoon, but I was rewarded when I found this. This sculpture encourages conversation (see June 5, 2018, and November 4, 2017).

October 9, 2018
So long, and thanks for all the fish. DOUGLAS ADAMS Homage to Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths. Halloween: why? It was a summer day in autumn. Halloween: the human race is in need of psychotherapy.

I see dead people. A wheel bug can`t kill you, but it can really mess you up. It`s not hard to get up with the sun at this time of year. Splash! Another fearsome bug to fill your dreams.

The Victoria Theatre is 152 years old and still beautiful. The day went by in a blur. This guy`s talk is more interesting than mine . . . . . . but requires more cleanup afterward. Tomorrow will be an unusual day.

October 12, 2018
I told you this guy was more interesting than me. Many famous performers have passed through this same stage entrance. They were also more interesting than me. Waiting backstage, [nearly] ready to give my talk. All of those wonderful people out there in the dark. That`s all, folks!

October 13, 2018
On a typical day, when I get up in the morning, I have no idea what I`m going to take pictures of. ADAM ALONZO Things fall apart. Not again! We just had fall last year. A bump on a log: reminds me of some people I know. Autumn sky.

October 14, 2018
I hate driving. Columbus is about as far as I go. I went to a little theatre where members of a writers` guild talked about how to get a play produced on stage. The theatre was watched over by a guardian angel. I wore a nametag, so that means I didn`t have to speak. In exchange for free food, I provided some nice photos.

Bridge over troubled banjo. It`s that time of year when THIS is what I photograph. Left: 2003. Center: 1871. Right: 1976. The ghost in the crosswalk. My first camera came with a memory card that might be able to store ONE photo taken by my current camera.

Episcopal stained glass (see June 1, 8 and 16, July 1 and 24, and October 5, 2004; August 15, 2006; and August 8, 2016). He kept saying, `Marker, marker,` but was tight-lipped about how the marker stains actually got on his hands. Just trying to keep above water. How do you politely tell someone to wash their bill? Last call for flowers.

October 17, 2018
Lunch. After lunch. Line of demarcation. Maybe it was time to replace the water pipes in my neighborhood after all (see October 20, 2017). Important Notice: there will be no pretty pictures here until after the vernal equinox on March 20, 2019. Thanks for your understanding.

October 18, 2018
The sun was out, but not doing its job. I`m not sure I`ll want do drive my car across the new Main Street bridge if it`s going to be made out of wood. Surely there`s somewhere warmer to stand. City squirrels have no fear of people. It`s a mystery to me why people are more interested in artificial things than they are in natural things like this.

October 19, 2018
Tonight I taught a photography workshop about taking pictures in the dark. My first photo was unsuccessful. My second picture was better. There are people jumping around with flashlights. Misfire. How I spent 30 seconds of my time on Friday night.

October 20, 2018
It`s challenging to shoot portraits outside in the sunlight. A strobe light helps, though it can reflect in eyeglasses. Autumn can be NOISY when about a million leaves rub against each other in the wind. I accidentally discovered a new place to take pictures. This guy said he liked my photo but hated his ollie. Today was all about balancing natural and artificial light.

October 21, 2018
This annual parade passes conveniently by my street. Coco the dog is trying something different with her hair. Everyone`s a Mexican on the Day of the Dead. During the parade, four people passing by told me that they liked my talk at TEDxDayton. My Web site was popular for a couple of days around my talk at TEDxDayton, but I have returned to obscurity.

October 22, 2018
`I like to do this because it feels so good when I stop.` The eagle has landed -- followed by the Canada goose. There`s always something interesting at the river. Last call for butterflies. Me and my shadow.

October 23, 2018
Welcome. You can see it was sunny in Dayton, but it was cold too. The world is full of imperfections. The last scud of day holds back for me. It flings my likeness after the rest and true as any on the shadow`d wilds. It coaxes me to the vapor and the dusk. WALT WHITMAN	It`s hard to sneak up on a heron.

October 24, 2018
FYI: the top of the net is 7 feet, 4 and 1/8 inches high. Playoff intensity: lose tonight and you`re done for good. As her team was about to be eliminated, this player turned on her jets and personally saved the match. Every mistake could mean the end of the season. Even the tiebreaker was tied, but finally one team won.

October 25, 2018
Okay, nice. How long until the tulips come out? Scenes from a parking lot. I guess it`s a good thing they`re rebuilding this bridge. Buses go loudly past on the street, pedestrians shout into their phones, while nature quietly shows its colors. I didn`t see a heron or egret today, but I saw this crane.

October 26, 2018
I ought to eat this to protect my coworkers from it. YAMAHA. There are no coats here since it`s COLD and RAINING! Oh my gourd. This is my most successful elevator ceiling photo ever (see February 23, 2018; December 28, 2017; and February 25, 2015).

October 27, 2018
Kali the Courageous, visual and performance artist, entertains the crowd at the Oregon District Hauntfest. Everybody has a good time in my neighborhood. Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth. PHARRELL WILLIAMS Her costume was simpler this year, but it took three hours to put on the makeup (see October 29, 2016). It makes things a lot easier for me when people just walk up and say, `Do you want to take our picture?`

October 28, 2018
Day after day, alone on a hill, the man with the foolish grin is sitting perfectly still. PAUL MCCARTNEY When nature gives you rain, take raindrop photos. This is a difficult shot with my massive camera. When all is done, and my last word is said, and ye who loved me murmur, `He is dead,` let no one weep. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR Coins left on Paul Laurence Dunbar`s grave.

October 29, 2018
The smoke detector woke me up in the middle of the night -- not by beeping, but by leaping off the wall. The most dangerous thing I do is cross the street. It`s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Dayton is a colorful place to be. Dayton is a colorful place to be.

October 30, 2018
A man and his rebar. It`s hard to sneak up on a heron (see October 23 above), but ducks don`t care. I miss you most of all, my darling, when autumn leaves start to fall. JOHNNY MERCER Oh how I hate to see October go. JOHNNY MERCER The Tiny Fit Diva.

October 31, 2018
How many radio stations do you know that play StereoRama CDs? Or CDs at all? We even play autographed CDs. This is as far as I go with decorations. Rain, rain and more rain. I hope I have enough Halloween candy for all the kids.
