After hearing John Kurokawa in recital, I now realize just how bad most clarinet players are by comparison. I wasn`t sure how to feel about this piece: Allegro tristamente means `cheerful sad.` She`s happy to share raisins with her little brother . . . . . . but not the M&Ms. Working off a little excess energy.

Not everyone has access to a washing machine. Even waterfowl give me a look of disappointment. Did you see that movie `Marathon Man`? Imagine a whooshing sound. From the slim yellow bill, I`d say this was a Great Egret, rather than a Snowy Heron. Argue with me if you want.

The kildeers were not happy when I visited their pond. `Don`t hate me because I`m beautiful.` The farmer`s alarm clock. Just bees and things and flowers, my life my life my life in the sunshine. Everybody loves the sunshine. ROY AYERS Oh, what a hot, sweaty and sneezy mess I was today.

Change is coming. I wish it wasn`t. Fueling up for the long, long trip to Mexico. Hopefully the squirrel will remember what it buried here. Too many pictures of birds? Yes, I know. Why do people use the phrase `tangled web`? Spider webs are perfectly ordered.

DIY. Saint John. Quiet now, busy later. That`s a great picture over there, isn`t is? The word squeegee has its roots in the 1780s.

Limbo. Squirrel vs. cat. I come to the garden alone while the dew is still on the roses. C. AUSTIN MILES Waiting for monarch butterflies. Still waiting. Hungry?

September 7, 2018
Leaving? I can`t say I`m sorry to see you go. Like the Amish, cardinals don`t like to be photographed. I love a big leafy salad at lunch. Without water, nothing else matters. If we lose water, we lose everything. Oh the gyrations it took to capture this photo. I worked in close partnership with my Canon camera and flash.

Rainy day pictures. It rained all day. It rained all night. A study of a wet smudge. Working against a deadline to take today`s pictures. Yes, my car can fly. Can`t yours?

Don`t turn your back on Dayton`s classical music radio station. Call (937) 222-9377. Downtown Dayton`s Big Round Red Thing. He was said to be the worst-dressed person at the Grammy Awards, but he won a Grammy, so there`s that. Kids and adults enjoyed the show by Secret Agent 23 Skidoo. She`s a dragon learning how to fly, obviously.

Reminiscent of the odd photo from November 6, 2008. Why oh, why oh, why oh, why did I ever leave Ohio? BETTY COMDEN AND ADOLPH GREEN Life and death in the big city. Don`t grieve. He led a good long life. You THINK you`re hiding from me.

Suddenly there`s a big hole in the street. September 11: never forget. How could I? The next generation of street photographers. Eat a little bit now, bury a little bit for later. Parking lot reflections.

September 12, 2018
Even a child knows you should support public radio. I hate setting the table. From a long way off, I could hear `IT`S COLD!` Splashdown! Surf Dayton.

Dayton, Ohio: birthplace of funk. Checkout time is 11:00am. This must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays. DOUGLAS ADAMS The universe is very, very big. It`s also very, very small. Forget what I said about webs on September 4 above.

Like swallows returning to Capistrano, a busload of photographers comes to the Oregon District every year (see September 15, 2015, and September 15, 2016). This week, I was watched over by a golden frog. The end of a pledge drive is worth celebrating, regardless of the outcome. Sunset on Fifth Street. Perfection is temporary.

Just as I got comfortable, I spilled my Cheetos. Devon Gilfillian is the man. That is all. His entire band was very talented, and just really nice. Did anybody else get a picture like this? Nope, just me. An important photo accessory is the ALL ACCESS pass I wear around my neck. It really improves my pictures.

Happy bird day to you. I was not happy to see so many grackles. I`d never seen so many bluebirds at one time. Say hello to the Yellow-Shafted Northern Flicker, a type of woodpecker. The hummingbird flew away, so here`s another woodpecker.

September 17, 2018
Lots of rain. The river rises, then recedes. Lots of mud. These aren`t local ducks. They`re cormorants stopping by briefly on their way to somewhere else. The Spotted Sandpiper is `generally seen singly . . . found at sheltered streams.` NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC FIELD GUIDE TO THE BIRDS OF NORTH AMERICA Refueling station at a construction site. Oh, Mexico! It sounds so simple I just got to go. JAMES TAYLOR

Do liberos live with as much intensity as they play? Every time she did this (and she did it a lot), the players on the bench would chant `HALL-IE HOL-BROOK!` Every point deserves a little celebration. Teamwork. Defending her territory.

September 19, 2018
I spend my mornings with beasts, birds and blooms. Oh yeah, I spend my mornings with bugs too. I walked in a different direction and saw different things. Artist Morris T. Howard is bringing on the funk (see September 13 above). Fleeing a noisy lawnmower, I found this quiet scene.

September 20, 2018
Hey wait, that`s not a leaf. I wished the monarch a safe journey and was careful not to step on the spider. But I killed lots of mosquitoes. There were a lot of female cardinals out this morning. The males may have still been in bed. And the female goldfinches were hard at work too. I had plenty of time to take pictures of this giant spider because it was busy eating another bug for breakfast.

September 21, 2018
The last Friday morning of summer. It`s always more fun to travel with somebody else. Trapped in a web long since abandoned by the spider. My good friend, the river, is even more quiet than I am. It`s not the destination, it`s the journey.

September 22, 2018
That horse REALLY didn`t want to be in there. Reminds me of the two geese from yesterday. It was a cold morning to be outside riding a horse. So a three-legged cat limped into a saloon and said, `I`m-a lookin` for the man who shot my paw.` When you`re around horses, watch where you step.

Noah Wotherspoon has been playing the blues in Dayton since his early teens. The first time the fog machine made my picture better (see August 16, 2018). Noah Wotherspoon sings a song called `Cloudy Day,` but not today. A long time ago, some blues guitarist got the idea to put a broken bottleneck on his finger while he played. It was a beautiful day to be outside for some blues.

I`m trying to keep as many doctors away as I can. Steinway, of course. I wouldn`t sit on anything less. Rainy day pictures. A lot of scary things come creeping out this time of year. I`m getting ready for a complicated shoot tomorrow.

September 25, 2018
October 26, 2017: She and I began trying to set up a photo shoot. September 25, 2018: It finally happened. I don`t like taking photos indoors with lights, but it was raining on her day off, so there was no other choice. Reclining Venus with Skates. Her smile says, `It`s my day off, and I`m at work.` It was worth waiting 11 months for this photo shoot.

September 26, 2018
It`s coming along nicely (see April 11, 2018). Meanwhile, across the street, a century-old building needs attention. `God bless Mommy and Daddy, Nibbles and Chipper, and Skippy and Rocky -- and send me some acorns.` Duck on duck violence. I chose my seat at the table based on the dessert.

September 27, 2018
I don`t drink coffee, but I designed a coffee mug. Hanging around the bar in the middle of the afternoon. Too many people, too many cars. What happens when you eat at Flying Pizza. They recently painted yellow lines on the floor of my parking garage. I knew it was a waste of time and paint.

September 28, 2018
I had to wait my turn to take pictures of the gull. Bored with photographers. Migrating monarchs passed by every few minutes (see October 1, 2017). Do they use the river to navigate? She realized at the last moment that what looked like a river is actually a sidewalk covered in shallow water. Full steam ahead!

September 29, 2018
Equally entertaining was the bitter dialogue between the two coaches on the sideline -- one in an English accent. In a Saturday recreational league, the players didn`t know each other`s names, and neither did the coach. Maybe next year. I`m very picky: it wasn`t raining, but it was too sunny. Oh, it`s a long, long while from May to December . . .

But the days grow short when you reach September . . . When the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame . . . One hasn`t got time for the waiting game . . . Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few. MAXWELL ANDERSON
