November 1, 2016
November began with an 80-degree day and one of my best photos ever. Somewhere in my youth or childhood, I must have done something good. The hawk soon tired of my foolishness. I can`t imagine painting an entire building with a roller (see October 25, 2016). If not for the hawk, this would be my picture of the day. The aftermath.

Autumn in the city. On an 80-degree day, the ice skating rink is closed. Selfie queen. Another perfect summer day in November. I discovered a creek, and named it after myself.

Leaves: two- and three-dimensional. They paved paradise to put up a parking lot. JONI MITCHELL A photo of photosynthesis. The middle child is always the strange one. The truck-shredding tree of Hess Street strikes again (see June 16, 2013).

So far this season I`ve seen volleyball in high school (September 8) and college (September 20 and October 21) but tonight I saw REAL college volleyball. It`s very hard to get a photo like this. Look out below! REAL college volleyball has cheerleaders, dancers, pep band and TV cameras. Oh, and an admission charge. WSU let the game slip through their hands.

My best butterfly day of the year came in November. There aren`t many flowers now, and they were being swarmed by the few remaining bees and butterflies. Some species migrate south, others will stay here. I`ve never had a better encounter with a buckeye. November butterflies do not go gentle into that good night.

No costumes this time (see October 31, 2016). It was another summery day -- maybe the last this year. This was really HER photo shoot . . . . . . but there`s something about a ginger in autumn. She was very patient as I worked to get the sun to sparkle just right behind her.

And just then, somebody turned off the sprinkler. Who will be the next occupant of Air Force One? We`ll find out tomorrow. I don`t like fall or cats, but I take pictures of both. Top of the tenth inning of Game 7 . . . I almost cried. Still in denial about the whole end-of-summer thing.

Just say no to Auto mode. Program mode is just as bad as Auto. Keep turning. Use Shutter priority only when your subject is moving. Use Aperture priority for almost all of your shooting. Use Manual mode only in very unusual circumstances.

November 9, 2016
Sometimes a sure thing just slips from your grasp. It`s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. And I complain when it`s a little chilly in my office. Why so glum, chum? We all just need to smile and stay positive.

November 10, 2016
This afternoon, it made no difference to me where I went, as long as I could stay in the warm sunlight. A study in yellow. Hey, can you loan me a Ben Franklin? Meet me at the corner. A visual aid for an upcoming photography workshop.

November 11, 2016
Happy birthday, WDPR! Some leaves will never see a rake. You jog in shorts . . . . . . while I shiver in my winter coat. Reflections on downtown Dayton.

November 12, 2016
The Tall Girls Club had its annual meeting this weekend. Fans cheered for their team and scorned the other fans. Their season ended, in disappointment, moments later. Disappointment for one team means elation for another. `What we`ve got here is failure to communicate.` COOL HAND LUKE

November 13, 2016
A chilly Sunday afternoon in downtown Dayton. I held her coat, took some pictures, then gave her coat back. I`ll never meet Kaley Cuoco, but I do know this girl. Editing her photos was easy since she`s kind of perfect. We -- well, she -- attracted lots of attention on the street. My new computer desktop photo.

November 14, 2016
I took one legitimate photo this morning . . . . . . then late at night I took some illegitimate photos. F O R E V E R Hamilton! Aww, the cell phone thinks it`s a camera. That`s so cute.

November 15, 2016
I hate it when toys are scattered on the floor. Bring more Crab Rangoon, please. A busy night in the Oregon District. A quiet night in the Oregon District. Daylight savings makes my photography more difficult.

November 16, 2016
A female version of Neil Simon`s `The Odd Couple.` Oscar Madison becomes Olive Madison. Felix Unger becomes Florence Unger. And the Pigeon sisters are the Costazuela brothers. It was a fun night at the [mostly empty] theatre.

November 17, 2016
The original version of Neil Simon`s `The Odd Couple.` Felix and Oscar have compatibility problems. The Pigeon sisters and their go-go boots. One actor was in both versions of the play. It`s easy to take photos of a show when I know what`s going to happen (see the final picture from yesterday).

November 18, 2016
Be glad you don`t have to decorate a tree this big. I always feel like somebody`s watching me. ROCKWELL Waiting for his ship to come in. I think I see a turkey hiding up there. Tonka trucks, or the real thing?

November 19, 2016
Two weeks and forty degrees makes a big difference (see November 5 above). This is what there was to take pictures of -- so I did. Stunned by the cold, everything was still and silent. There`s lots more of this ahead in the next few months. September 22 was a non-event. Fall fell today.

November 20, 2016
I finished all my other unpleasant tasks for the day before doing the worst: walking outside in the cold. Trapped between seasons. Never say die. The trashiest holiday of them all is coming soon. What is, what was, and what will be again.

November 21, 2016
Reflections on the Biltmore. Thirsty? Reflections on the Biltmore. Determined to raise Baby to be a musician. I don`t plan ahead, I just go out and shoot what I see.

November 22, 2016
An essential part of Christmas. For several months, I`ve watched rocks and dirt being moved from one place to another place on this project. Almost ready for ice skating. Not me -- the rink. This truck was moving very, very fast. There are waves all around us, but most are invisible.

November 23, 2016
Wet X. Thinking about moving into the city Christmas tree. Before long, he`ll have icicles hanging from his nose. I saw him at the sawmill yesterday on Choctaw Ridge, and now ya tell me Billie Joe MacAllister`s jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge. BOBBIE GENTRY Just beside the first singer`s ear, it says `Photo by Adam Alonzo` (see December 11, 2011).

November 24, 2016
Happy Thanksgiving! I`d rather look at this than television. Is there still time to make a pie? She wasn`t there, but was the center of conversation. 31 days until Christmas.

November 25, 2016
Getting around downtown Dayton in style. Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow. People called her Holly, but that may be her elf name. Her name is Gomez, so I trust her with `Feliz Navidad.` Won`t you guide my sleigh tonight?

November 26, 2016
Give me a free ticket and I`m a Wright State fan. WSU vs. ND turned out not to be Notre Dame. Hey yourself. Possession is nine-tenths of the law. Did I mention my free ticket was in the front row?

November 27, 2016
Either the neighborhood kids or squirrels get to them. The sun shouldn`t be this low at 2:49pm. I saw this a long way off and approached with alacrity. A portrait photographer was usurping the entire park, leaving me with only this leaf. I was surprised to see anything still alive on the ground.

November 28, 2016
I walked ten feet outside, but it was raining and came back in. Payday isn`t until the 30th, but this will hold me over. What I shoot when it`s cold and rainy outside. It has been far too long, John Steinbeck. Using my camera`s automatic timer, I have proven that the refrigerator light turns off when the door is closed.

November 29, 2016
My red car encountered a black car this morning. Autumn is the first step toward winter. For anyone who might need it. Apparently, some people just weren`t brought up right. It`s Christmastime in the city. RAY EVANS

November 30, 2016
Now someone has been writing on my wrecked car. I`m looking forward to all that 2039 might bring! You can expect more pictures like this as it gets colder. In five minutes, I get to walk home. I go all out with the Christmas decorations.
