Labor Day in downtown Dayton. Here we are waiting for it to stop raining. It`s helpful to have someone behind me prompting a smile. It`s raining again, but we`re partially under shelter. Another day, another ginger.

The new managers of my creepy parking garage painted lines on the floor for the first time.  It doesn`t help. Insect eye. This took many tries, and my camera battery was dying. As I walked past this diner downtown, the owner saw me coming and locked the door, even though it was only 6:30. That reminds me:  I should probably clean the shower.

They were dropping all around me as I took this picture. I despise spiders, but they keep nasty bugs under control. I think we`re seeing curiosity here, not fear. Not my size, sadly. The earth swings back toward the long season of death.

They sat when it was cloudy and flew when it was sunny. The humble, but very plentiful, cabbage white. A caterpillar`s to-do list:  eat, eat, eat, eat and then eat. I am grateful for the time, equipment and skill to capture this photograph, and for a very cooperative swallowtail. Fueling up for the long trip to Mexico.

It was cold. It was getting dark. But it only made Katie`s fair complexion more stunning. She looks familiar (see February 12, April 29 and 30, 2007; September 28, 2008; and July 17 and 19, 2010). Katie was the first redhead I ever photographed.

When all else fails, take pictures of water (see September 2, 8, 11, 15, 17, 18 and 19 above). Behind bars. If the bugs decided to gang up on us, we`d be in trouble. It took a couple of days for me to like this picture. But this picture I liked right away.
