Photographs can be deceiving. Nothing was burning here. As the lightning begins, I go for a walk outside. How sweet it is. It must be cool to work at a radio station. Dull pictures outside are better than dull pictures inside.

July 2, 2014
I will not be able to continue this five photos a day routine unless I have the discipline to take pictures in the morning. Fairy swimming pool. Most of today`s pictures were taken while kneeling. Sunrise lily. Actually, I went straight.

July 3, 2014
I usually ignore Dayton`s Independence Day activities, but it was such a perfect night I had no excuse to stay inside. Alas, the Cityfolk Festival would have been this weekend. Thousands of people came downtown for the fireworks, and a large percentage of them didn`t watch the show. Photographs say to the world, `I was here.` That moment when the guitarist notices my camera and starts acting like Eddie Van Halen.

Every holiday seems to have its own special food. I hope you didn`t try to drive in my neighborhood today. Today`s pictures have a wide variety of subject matter. Surely those can`t be the same dogs year after year (see July 4, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2012). Has it been that long already?

July 5, 2014
Whenever I see your smiling face, I have to smile myself. JAMES TAYLOR She`s just practicing for her senior pictures next year. It was a sunny morning, so we stayed in the shadows. I don`t often use the word adorable, but here it fits. Meanwhile, in the grass nearby . . . a hungry mouth.

July 6, 2014
It was a dreary, rainy day, but I had my Canon speedlight. The boys tend to gather around the girls. A cardinal couple was in distress because a stupid cat climbed into their tree. Robins and sparrows also raised the alarm and seemed to gather around to show support. I wouldn`t want to encounter one of these inside my house, but out here I`m glad to see it. Sometimes the girls play hard to get.

July 7, 2014
Guess: what is nature`s favorite color? Good morning, sunshine. It wasn`t feeding, it was just warming its wings in the sun. Home screen. I still haven`t filled it with clutter yet (see May 29, 2014).

July 8, 2014
Outside my building, the Adam Alonzo fan club gathers. Soggy structure. Urban bunny rabbits may be cute, but they`ll cut you. He`s got his job to do, and I`ve got mine. Mine is easier. It`s nice to have my pictures for the day taken before 9:30.

July 9, 2014
Les liaisons dangereuses. A summer equivalent of the leaves on November 7, 2011. When it`s twelve a clock he climbs the stair. He never knocks, `cause nobody`s there. Just him and his shadow. Can I . . . help you . . . in any way? Someone I know went to England and brought me candy -- again (see September 8, 2009).

July 10, 2014
It`s nice to have my pictures for the day taken before 8:00. Stand in the wrong place and you`ve got no photo. Hundreds of commuters drive by, I kneel on the sidewalk. My camera only strengthens my aloofness from people. So it`s THIS GUY knocking down the blue newspaper dispensers (see April 4, 2013). I saw him kick one over. Bach baroque.

July 11, 2014
My neighbor`s dropcloth. A gallery would probably buy it. I`m getting pretty good at identifying types of flowers. At least he died dancing. This would be a good place for an Edgar Allan Poe story. The yellow rose of Ohio.

July 12, 2014
If I wasn`t a patient person, I`d be a poor photographer. Another photographer was just finishing a portrait session as I arrived at the park, so I was left alone with the bugs. Tough shot, though it`s hard to tell. What is it? You got me. Petal hugger.

July 13, 2014
`Let it go! Let it goooo! I am one with the wind and sky!` High and slow. I took lots of bad pictures of this robin to get a good one. Ducks are omnivorous, but the worst thing for them to eat is bread. Don`t feed them. Low and fast.

July 14, 2014
These harmless looking clouds should be feared. Jumping jacks? Don`t they know how much better they would feel if they just sat down in the shade? Here`s where I was when I took yesterday`s pictures. You never really know someone until you`ve flip-flopped a mile in their sandals. Two boys from Dayton changed the world.

July 15, 2014
I just shoot `em. I can`t explain `em. It`s going to be cold sleeping on this bench tonight. Sittin` by the dock of the bay. Exercise. I vaguely remember what that is. Not one of the spires you normally see in my daily photos. This one is Baptist.

July 16, 2014
My neighborhood has been here for a long time. On this date in 1969, Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin `Buzz` Aldrin left Florida for a very long trip. Every morning there`s a cat food feeding frenzy. Morning textures. For me, a Thai 9 appetizer is enough for a meal.

July 17, 2014
This was important to some little chalk artist. As I shot this, a sidewalk resident with no fixed address kept walking around me, but I didn`t photograph him. These lucky guys get a ride to work. Sunrise on the prairie -- ten feet from Fifth Street. He has to start working before I do.

July 18, 2014
Patio patriotism. Your daily bird. Nature is where you find it. That was close! This counts as yesterday`s daily bird.

July 19, 2014
Yes, please. Light it up! I started petting him, then stopped, knowing he`d look up. Tonight was a combination graduation/birthday party. Mommy told you not to play with that under the trees.

July 20, 2014
I can hear the blues festival from my house anyway, so I might as well walk over there and take a few pictures. I was poorly equipped compared to this guy. Among the vendors` tents. Dayton sings the blues. Let sleeping cats lie.

July 21, 2014
Let me know if you need cucumbers. Or a cardboard box. A family of rabbits lives in the heart of downtown Dayton. Why run if you can walk? Why walk if you can drive? Riverfront property. Summertime, and the living is easy.

July 22, 2014
Saw it, got close, knelt down, put camera on foot, shot it. It`s easy as 1-2-3. Brushing up. Another camera-on-foot shot. I get chomped by bugs when I take photos in the morning, but fortunately not by one of these.

July 23, 2014
I wouldn`t care if I saw a dollar bill on the sidewalk, but I stop to take a photo of this. Repetition is its own reward. I bet he doesn`t have to park in a creepy garage. Main Street in the morning. Bach in business (see July 10 above).

July 24, 2014
Somewhere between quaint and obsolete. Be happy in your work. Unleaded fuel only. I was too hungry to take a BEFORE shot. This is AFTER. Mrs. Mallard.

July 25, 2014
Test shot in the creepy parking garage. Clacka-clacka clacka-clacka! Driving snakes away makes you thirsty. Gingerland. Hands around, hands around, trip it, and not too slow; clear is the fiddle and sweet its sound, keep the girls` cheeks aglow. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR

July 26, 2014
Saturday with Sidney. You don`t want to know what`s in it. I am awesome, I know, but please get up. I asked her to stand out of the sun while I took her picture. She said, `Out of the sun. I like that.` Dublin, Donegal, Dingle, Dunamore and Dayton.

July 27, 2014
Hungry? Retired couples enjoy traveling to festivals together. You don`t see many parasols anymore. Today you get a bonus ginger. Wait -- where did those two dogs go?

July 28, 2014
Pushing up daisies. I have no fear of bees. At least not one at a time. Something`s fishy here. Lily liver. Now Chopin is baroque (see July 23 above).

July 29, 2014
River gull. Dinner! `My new hat is FABULOUS!` Water in two of its many forms. Wheels within wheels in the sky.

July 30, 2014
Have a Nice Day. There`s a call for you on line two. Going to the fourth floor. Left to right. Right to left.

July 31, 2014
Eye in the sky. Dayton is known worldwide for its innovative architecture. Two-way encounter on a one-way street. Morning on First Street. So I guess I`m obsessed with Vivian Maier right now.
