Charlotte`s web never looked more beautiful than it looked this morning. The light from the east struck it and made it all plain and clear. It was a perfect piece of designing and building. E.B. WHITE I kept getting closer and closer with the camera, until I drew the conclusion that it must have been asleep. I hope Charlotte had flood insurance. Instead of crowding into a telephone booth, college students today play cornhole. I invented a new game, but the person who had to hold the target wasn`t thrilled about it.

I went to a destiny reader, but she was dyslexic. She kept predicting my past. Windows within windows. I spent 96 cents to buy envelopes to apply for a grant that could award me $5000 (for a total profit of $4999.04). What did Charles Foster Kane call his sled? Rest assured that if there WAS a better picture, you`d be seeing it instead.

Knautical knocker. Gnaughty gnome. A and J love their Infiniti. Climbing plants give me the creeps. Early morning fire alarm.

Spring and early summer monarchs live, mate and die so these late summer monarchs can migrate to Mexico. With no previous generation to guide them, migrating monarchs fly to the same location outside Mexico City. The hickory horned devil caterpillar turns into the more attractive regal moth. There is differency between a grub and a butterfly; yet your butterfly was a grub. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE I brought my Lensbaby to the butterfly house today, and discovered it`s hard to shoot small things with it.

I never know when my fake leg cast will come in handy. Photographers will never be lacking in work as long as people remain fascinated with pictures of themselves. A moment later, she floated away. Hungry for hibiscus. Inside Antelope Canyon.

Here I unintentionally followed a photography instructor`s advice to be more spontaneous. This time it worked. What could be better than working outside on a 90-degree day? Working outside with hot tar on a 90-degree day. When all else fails, shoot the living room blinds. When all else fails, shoot the bathroom mirror. I take pictures in the kitchen when it`s too hot to go outside -- or when it`s too cold. It looks pretty much the same.

I`m not the only one out in the Oregon District every morning. I take pictures, another guy jogs, one guy just wanders around. Feel free to shudder, but keep in mind how many bugs would be flying around if it weren`t for spiders. Storm cloud over the suburbs, or a really dirty network card. Roller derby is back, and it`s badder than ever. Actually roller derby is gooder than ever. Dayton`s team has a mission statement that talks about `building positive relationships between women.`

Don`t tread on me. You might say I`m on the fence politically. Lines and textures. Just about everywhere you go, there`s a camera watching. This is what 93 degrees looks like.

August 9, 2007
Hawthorne Hill, the former Wright home in Oakwood. Laugh now, but school starts soon. A park employee politely ignored the strange guy with the camera kneeling in the grass at 8:22am. We were as happy as could be, under the spreading umbrella tree. Evening falls.

So what`s this Dance Dance Revolution everyone`s doing? Oh, so that`s Dance Dance Revolution. Pigeons are smart enough to get into the garage through those holes, but not smart enough to get out again. Like my new hat? `Romeo, Romeo, can you hear me down there?`

Animals have such a simple purpose: feed and breed to continue the species. When WE start to think that we have a higher purpose, either violence or beneficence follows. After Louis Armstrong saw this sign, his life was changed forever. Literate litter from the burned-out house across the street. My hand, exactly as the camera photographed it. Even after 3 years, I still like to just fool around with my camera. The lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer.

Dancing to the blues, in a sweater and jacket, in 95 degree heat. He woke up this mornin` and his love was gone. Said he woke up this mornin` and his love was gone. A blues harp is much easier to get into the car than the regular kind. One way to stay cool. Another way to stay cool.

One of the most poisonous spiders on earth. Fortunately, its little teeth can`t penetrate human skin. Yes, but it`s MY road. August has been a rough month. Has it been seventeen years already? Would you believe this is a book on photography?

August 14, 2007
I`d like to say they sounded good, but hearing trombones practice is like listening to an alto: there`s no melody. They`re just so glad when I show up for work every day. August has been a rough month. No I didn`t run through the sprinkler, but it almost got me a couple of times. Leaves and stem.

August 15, 2007
I pay a lot to park in the lot. Polka dog. Part of my lunch today -- prepared by someone else. Whose fingers are those? Oh, they`re her fingers.

August 16, 2007
Touch the sky. Interstate 75 through downtown Dayton: not swift. Harpists spend half their time tuning and the other half lugging their instrument around. Face the music. These musicians have a lot of pluck.

August 17, 2007
It`s a little early for that type of thing, don`t you think? With the air conditioning not working, it has been pretty hot and humid in the library. Lilian Gish in `Broken Blossoms` made in 1919. My neighbor`s porch light, as seen on my wall and ceiling. When all else fails, take an obscure self-portrait.

August 18, 2007
What better use for an art gallery than a poker tournament? Karaoke is a Japanese word meaning `make fool of self.` Domino`s gives away free pizza at the start of the year, knowing they`ll make it up later from hungry students. A lot of these people just met each other. `I won a Wii!`

August 19, 2007
Hanging around my car this morning. Crawling around my car this morning. Go right for sirens and lights. Green handrail -- nothing more. Nice work if you can get it: getting paid to play a game.

August 20, 2007
We all live in a yellow SUB LOOHCS. A brief moment of quiet on a busy street. Homage to Charles Sheeler. It`s trendy to affect a knowledge of Buddhism. Outgoing and incoming.

August 21, 2007
Beginning of the semester, a fourteen-hour day, you should be happy to get this picture. Sometimes my job requires me to take photos, but they`re not always interesting. While taking this picture I was nearly run over by a speeding ambulance. The aforementioned ambulance. Waning and waxing.

August 22, 2007
Dewdrops are round and the Earth is round, but for different reasons. Unless I happen to be there when they hatch, I`ll probably never know what these eggs are. Forever Marilyn. It`s nearly impossible to photograph a grasshopper in flight. So I didn`t. Dying and living.

August 23, 2007
Every morning they wait for a woman to feed a stray cat, then they go after the leftovers. Lonesome pine. While taking this photo, I was depressed to overhear two students talking enthusiastically about . . . television. Dinner. Descending and ascending.

August 24, 2007
`Hey, stop tickling!` Having a ball. What`s the in-flight movie? You better be ready. Doom and bloom.

August 25, 2007
Fueling up for the flight south. Hey, one at a time! Heard the latest buzz? Along the wall of forgetfulness. For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth. JAMES 1:11

August 26, 2007
Nature`s camouflage. As lovely as a jewel of fire and dewdrop blent, so danced the maiden Sutna in gallant Akbar`s tent. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR For Sutna danced at morning and Sutna danced at eve, her dusky eyes half hidden behind a silken sleeve. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes, she shall have music wherever she goes. ENGLISH NURSERY RHYME Mountain bread with thyme, cumin, sumac, sesame seeds and zatar (a bitter spice similar to oregano).

August 27, 2007
Where bowling balls come from. Come on in. Don`t be cross. A 3.2 second exposure at f/8, with both a polarizer and a neutral density filter. (`What is he talking about?`) Perhaps you haven`t heard: I don`t like cats.

August 28, 2007
The `white` part of the flower isn`t white. It`s reddish-gold from the rising sun. As I stood very still to take this, someone saw me and asked `Is that one of those downtown statues?` And speaking of downtown statues. Come on in, the water`s fine! I have been to the fountaintop.

August 29, 2007
Camera shy. First day of the Fair. Skee-ball lady. Little Lamb, who made thee? Dost thou know who made thee? WILLIAM BLAKE The fairest of the Fair.

August 30, 2007
Double whammy. Help from above. He hates horses, but LOVES the outfits. Fern couldn`t take her eyes off the tiny pig. `Oh,` she whispered. `Oh, look at him! He`s absolutely perfect.` E.B. WHITE You build up a mighty thirst just by being cute.

August 31, 2007
She rides an old paint. Hey, don`t I know ewe? My role is to observe others having fun, but not to actually have any myself. In the 4-H Club Obedience and Agility competition, Snowflake was definitely the under-dog. `Don`t cry, Snowflake. Fourth place isn`t bad.`
