Peter Pollen Mary. I`m gonna sit right down and write myself a letter. A good old-fashioned Sunday tent meeting. When the Jolly Green Giant sneezed. I had a plan to find the perfect place to take fireworks photos. This isn`t it.

I`ve photographed this steeple many times and never realized the cross must be made of something translucent. Cute nose, Puff. No really, on you it looks good. Attached to a FOR SALE sign, this web is a real fixer-upper, a handyman`s dream. We can learn a lesson from the flowers: always look toward the bright side. Color guard flags are waved during the summer too.

I had a passenger OUTSIDE my car this morning. A lot more friendly than the one on October 10, 2005. I try to avoid taking pictures of printed words, but some days there is little else to photograph. That`s just to figure out what`s wrong with the car, not to fix the car. I planned to go there and take pictures this evening, but came down with a sudden case of laziness.

The Oregon District Fourth of July parade gets larger and stranger every year. Bitsy Ross won the Best Decorated Dog contest. Why can`t we have a tug-o-peace? After the parade, the music continued . . . . . . and continued.

At yesterday`s July 4th parade in the Oregon District, I happened to meet this trumpet player. He suggested I take pictures at a performance his quintet was giving tonight at a downtown restaurant. The stage was extremely dark, and what light there was was colored, so taking pictures was difficult. But I have a very versatile camera, and I learned more about its capabilities tonight. The performance was informal so I was able to get close to the stage and take pictures while they played.

On a typical day, I have about 40 minutes to take pictures during lunch. Here are the results from today. Little dragonflies about the size of a match were flying around in the grass. Okay, we know where Robin takes a bath, but where does Batman take a bath? In the Battub. Lovely in lavender; pretty in pink. Lily`s a gal at whom gentlemen wink. LINDA KNAUS Ohio`s most common butterfly, the humble cabbage white.

Eastern Black Swallowtail, in the wild. José Geraldo Francisco Julio de Luís and Maria Rosalinda Juanita Ignacia Hernandez. Paint the town red. A piñata is always fun until somebody gets hurt. If I`d paid attention in Spanish class, I`d know what she`s singing about.

Catch anything? Catch anything? Catch anything? Fishing is all about choosing the right bait. Go with the flow.

July 9, 2007
No more pickin` and grinnin`. A moment later it snagged an insect out of midair. To say I`m detail-oriented is an understatement. Other people walk by the planter and don`t even notice the flowers, let alone the life that`s buzzing around them. Those who deny liberty to others deserve it not for themselves; and, under a just God, can not long retain it. ABRAHAM LINCOLN Portable rain shower.

Sun[flower]rise. A For Sale sign appeared across the street on Sunday, then the house burned on Monday. Ummm, arson maybe? The cardboard model . . . . . . the real thing. When all else fails, shoot the living room blinds.

July 11, 2007
I am in the right place. It was a relentlessly sunny day. I waited, but no train came, so I decided to lay down here for a nap. Scenic grandeur, or as close as it gets in Dayton. It was a relentlessly sunny evening.

I can`t recall where I shot this. My memory`s clouded. Duck, duck, goose. Duck, duck, dragon. A sudden change in flight plan. Love is not love which alters when it alteration finds, or bends with the remover to remove. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

July 13, 2007
One of many. One of one. Too busy to stop and pose. An eastern black swallowtail and a tiger swallowtail doing their part to improve relations between the species. As a boy, I heard the fable of the goose that laid the golden egg and thought it impossible anyone would be foolish enough to destroy something so valuable. But with every cut forest, I see I underestimated human foolishness.

I`ve been lugging a camera around every day for over three years and just now got a decent hummingbird shot. While waiting for the elusive hummingbirds to cooperate, I took several pictures of more leisurely butterflies. During the mud volleyball game. After the mud volleyball game. You can`t see it, but there was drumming as well as strumming.

Can you believe that this is the same Italian Girl from October 29, 2006? Me neither. Can you believe she is only 17 years old? Me neither. Can you believe she has the leading role in her school`s fall play? Me too. Her new hair color reminds me of my caption about the house finch on June 15, 2007. She is a very bright and sweet girl who `loves little babies` and wants to be a neo-natal nurse.

July 16, 2007
There`s an obvious caption here, but I won`t stoop to it. This garden has gone to pot. A small sun in the galaxy of the grass. Beat the heat. A late night at the office.

July 17, 2007
Nuts are neglected since the neighborhood squirrels figured out they can get fat eating our garbage. Someone painted graffiti on the doors. Someone else decided this is an appropriate solution. Layers of leaves. Two seconds later, there were only wires there. Sometimes there are conflicting indications about which career one should pursue.

July 18, 2007
I happened to hook up my camera to the TV, and this one was stunning at 26 inches across. They`re smiling, but they don`t know what their fate will be. On top of the daisy. Underneath the daisy. Park bench.

July 19, 2007
I`m reflected in there somewhere. Residual rain. My life is mainly defined by things I don`t do. For instance, I don`t talk on a cell phone. You can`t stop nature. Don`t worry, she wasn`t injured.

July 20, 2007
I sure hope she likes the flowers . . . . . . Oh great, she LOVES the flowers! I love to visit the park a lot. Shiny building . . . orange netting across the street. Wire you taking a picture of wire?

July 21, 2007
No dragonfly is an island. Which way is up? A banner with a strange device. At the edge of Watership Down. The birds moved out when the building went condo.

July 22, 2007
The racers were closely packed at the start. The racers were still closely packed at the end. Strangely reminiscent of yesterday`s third photo. Sure these kids could beat me on a bike, but can they DRIVE A CAR? I don`t THINK so! Did I mention that the racers were closely packed?

July 23, 2007
I have often walked down this street before. `You get any closer with that camera and I`ll slug you.` A face in the crowd. Urban overcrowding. Morning [Old] Glory.

July 24, 2007
`What did I do?` Want a cat? No, of course you don`t. Put the petal to the metal. Hiding in the hibiscus. For the children and the flowers are my sisters and my brothers. Their laughter and their loveliness can clear a cloudy day. JOHN DENVER

July 25, 2007
There are always new things to see on my morning walk through the Oregon District. You`re just jealous because my bike has a basket. DANGER! THIS PHOTO UNDER REPAIR. I reckon I seen the varmint for the last time. LINUS RAWLINGS in `How the West was Won` I wandered up a stone path and thought, `I WILL find something to take a picture of here.`

July 26, 2007
There was a less photogenic raindrop on this blade of grass, so I mopped it up with a Kleenex. My photos show up in the strangest places (see March 21, 2006). Some people work in an office, but my desk is in a cube. As I was leaning into the shrubbery for this shot, a lady walked by and said `You look like a picture yourself.` Forty lashes.

July 27, 2007
Guess where I spent my lunch hour today. All your money won`t another minute buy. Dust in the wind, all we are is dust in the wind. KANSAS At the grave of Johnny Morehouse (see September 21, 2005). Lay me nigh to whah hit meks a little pool, An` de watah stan`s so quiet lak an` cool, Whah de little birds in spring Ust to come an` drink an` sing, An` de chillen waded on dey way to school. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR I came home to discover a new stove in the kitchen. It will never again be this clean.

July 28, 2007
It seems like everybody has a tattoo these days. Giddy-UP! True freedom is to have power over oneself for everything. MICHEL DE MONTAIGNE I`d like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony. Those aren`t confessionals, Padre.

July 29, 2007
Irish fiddling in the 21st century. `What`s the problem? So I`m a little damp.` For five bucks, I want a more comfortable chair. Canon camera user guide. Canon camera user guy.

July 30, 2007
A morning walk in a different neighborhood results in different pictures today. My own neighborhood isn`t quite this run down. Under the steeple, there really were people. Don`t blame me if I ever doubt you, You know I wouldn`t live without you. Tessie, you are the only, only, only. HARRY MACDONOUGH Face to face with a saint.

July 31, 2007
Green heart. How long, O Lord? Highway bloom. Mary through the trees. A nearby hawk was making everyone nervous.
