She stayed out last night until the cows came home. This horse was really determined to shut the stable door. Third runner-up in the World`s Most Enthusiastic Person contest. Same ride as yesterday, just plugged in this time. The coveted title of Miss Miami Valley changes hands -- or heads.

His camouflage shirt couldn`t conceal him from my camera. Contestants in the horse grooming contest stand shoulder to shoulder, ready to compete head to head. After grooming a muddy horse, the contestants usually come away with dirty faces. Fair is the sunshine, fairer still the moonlight, and all the twinkling starry host. Who says monarchy is dead? At the bottom of those delicate legs are feet that can TASTE, so the butterfly knows what type of plant it`s on. Autumn is approaching:  last call for caterpillars. What one can do with a tripod, a dark room and boredom. I drove out to the country to photograph stars last night.  Here`s what I got from my window in the city tonight.

Morning in the Oregon Historic District. I guess they had to eat and run (see August 22, 2007). Walking tall. Each drop has an upside down V-shape, reflecting the lawn sprinkler from which it came. I`m in a music class this semester, not a photography class, but that`s not to say photography isn`t involved.

Before I built a wall I`d ask to know what I was walling in or walling out, and to whom I was like to give offence. Something there is that doesn`t love a wall. ROBERT FROST A few feet from this spot, someone at a bus stop asked me what time it was. I wasn`t tired, so I left my shadow here to rest. I don`t like being cooped up in an office either. In one lifetime, world population has increased from 2 to 6 billion people.  Most of society`s troubles can be traced to the fact that there are just way too many of us.

I remember when two quarters would fill up one of those. In case you lost track, I`ve now taken pictures for 1200 days in a row. I am not!  YOU are!! Though a violin can be violent, a cello is usually mello. You don`t want to know.

As they plucked seeds, the weight of the birds caused the stalks to bend almost to the ground. The small shelter I built for myself on the edge of this flower has finally resulted in some good photos. When suffering from allergies, the best treatment is to stick one`s face into as many flowers as possible. Color coordination. Monarchs will begin their migration to Mexico about 14 days from now, when the sun is at 54 degrees in the sky.

Roaming the same neighborhood with the same camera and same pair of eyes, today I tried hard to see differently. Homage to Kathryn Koran.  Light reflects in a downward diagonal and upward in a counterclockwise swirl. My class starts at 7:00.  I get there early.  I`m bored. More fun with the sun. They nibble walnuts off the branches, then crack them open by dropping them onto the pavement (or my car).

There`s a chill in the air, and an orange ball on the grass:  it must be field hockey season. Skirts and scratches, braids and bruises. She soaks her mouthpiece in Mountain Dew for the added energy. The boots say `No!` Weapons check.

Monday morning sunrise. They say that Mount Vesuvius is due to erupt again soon. A religion class makes a pilgrimage to the library. You just don`t see this kind of thing in the suburbs. Dinner.

It may not be the best sign I`ve ever made, but it`s certainly the biggest. Turnabout is fair play. There may be law students hiding behind any one of these. Formless formula. This stuff is free.  Why do we still burn oil?

Did you see that?  Something just crawled over your keyboard! Morning in the Oregon District, but you knew that already. A sidewalk passer-by saw my camera and instructed me to `do something with that flowerpot.` Matter and Form unmingled and conjoined came into being that had no defect, even as three arrows from a three-stringed bow. The starting point for a great photography session at Wegerzyn Garden this morning . . . led by me. While students gathered at the bench, the instructor was already roaming the garden taking pictures. Where scarecrows come from. Reflected in the glasses is a little boy who was hovering around and giving me very strange looks. Today was the day to tag monarchs (see September 24, 2006) and send them on their way to Mexico.

Did you listen to me on the radio this morning? Still waiting for the party to start (see September 24, 2006). A shadow show that lasted only a few minutes. I had to clean the bathroom mirror for this one (but the lens is still a bit dusty). Don`t blink.

I had no intention of being here to shoot this, but I saw it from the road and quickly turned off. A waxing moon, strained through my window screen and blinds.

I was up early for sunrise at the cemetery . . .  . . . I was the only one there who could appreciate it. The cemetery has an incredibly filthy pond. To be a photographer, you have to nurture the things that other people discard. RICHARD AVEDON This looks remarkably like something taken just before bed in order to fulfill the five-a-day quota.

What name am I thinking of:  Sarandon and B. Anthony? A shot like this demands very little observation ability . . .  . . . but something like this takes a lot more effort. What one photographs when one doesn`t want to get rained upon. Taken from the dry comfort of my car.

To protect him from the hot sun, a group of snails covered Buddha`s head, but they died doing so.  In gratitude, he wore their shells on his head for the rest of his life. A little tension isn`t so bad. The vanishing car. Wallpaper in the Library staff lounge. Marianist moon.

Three A-10s.  I later saw four F-16s.  And two turtle-doves. CRE8 When I was in college I knew a guy who hit golf balls off the roof (which I thought was reckless driving). If it were me, I`d be giggling at this point. `I told you he`s MY boyfriend!`

There is an unintentional hand theme to today`s pictures. Will she be late?  No, she`ll be here.  I`m just early. Practice makes perfect -- but who wants to be perfect? I don`t watch TV, but some things just can`t be avoided. `Yes, we think we can dance!`
