Looking for something to photograph, I arranged these cafeteria chairs . . . . . . but then came across these already arranged in a way I would never have thought of. I should`ve had faith. Be a thumbtack: support the arts. Sunset out the front window. Sunset out the back window.

Last year`s roses, now half price. And then it was like I was standing in this long tunnel with a bright light at the end. The warm sunshine naturally compels animals to a higher level of activity. It dominates the landscape -- architecturally and culturally. I would understand if someone looked at all my pictures and concluded, `He doesn`t know how to shoot straight.`

Do you hear someone knocking? Come on in, but the place is a mess. The secret of a daffodil. I heard lots of tiny sneezes as I took this. The Shadow knows.

April 5, 2005
Holding up the sky. Holding down the ground. Butterfly on final approach. Wow, that bee did a great job of pollenating yesterday! You are my lucky star, I saw you from afar.

Together for the first time. Luminous dereliction. Decorated dereliction. The way out. This Web page protected by an integrated security system.

April 7, 2005
Above the law. Brand loyalty. Within each dogwood blossom glistened a tiny reservoir. A bird drinking from same. On the prowl.

Tulips emerge very quickly -- almost overnight. See, I told you they grow quickly. A pair of F-18s flying EXTREMELY close. What are two Navy planes doing over an Air Force town? Has anyone seen my . . . Concerned that I hadn`t quite captured the essence of raspberry tea on December 12, I once again plumb its limitless depths.

One of these mornings, you`re gonna rise up singing. You`re gonna spread yo` wings and take to the sky. Perfect -- for now, until the hard rains of spring come. Second from the bottom, third from the left. Missed the Saturday dance. Heard they crowded the floor. Couldn`t bear it without you. Don`t get around much anymore. Dancing to Brahms. Really . . .

April 10, 2005
Pushmi-Pullyu. Okay, evolutionists: why the orange feet? Edvard Grieg, Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 Op. 46: `Morning Mood.` I used to do that. Now I`m pretty content where I`m at. Ah, the beauty of springtime.

April 11, 2005
The old news building. Monday 7:56am. Here begins a rather disappointing longitudinal study. Monday 6:13pm. I wanted to show how rapidly tulips bloom. Monday 7:21pm. I chose a flower at random to photograph. Monday 10:19pm. Unfortunately I happened to pick the late bloomer of the bunch.

April 12, 2005
Me, myself and eye. Tuesday 8:41am. So, what was I saying? Tuesday 10:06am. Oh yes, I had to continue this theme into a second [rainy] day. Tuesday 11:28am. Meanwhile, other tulips are busting out all over. Tuesday 10:00pm. So once again I carried over into another day.

April 13, 2005
Splish-splash I was takin` a bath. Wednesday 8:46am. By this point I was considering Miracle-Gro, steroids . . . Wednesday 11:45am. But finally nature took its course. Wednesday 2:50pm. I went to a great deal of trouble to get this shot in the middle of the afternoon. Wednesday 9:57pm. All worn out from today`s exertion.

April 14, 2005
Two octagons make one hexadecagon. Hey, bud! At setting sun the tulip hides behind her veil just like a bride`s. How much is that maple in the window? London during the blitz.

April 15, 2005
Always the innovator, Beethoven was the first major composer to recognize the potential of radio. Duck! Here comes a bird! Sunny spring. There is nothing remarkable about it. All one must do is strike the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself. J.S. BACH I thought driftwood was supposed to drift (see March 18).

Transforming transactions into relationships since 1884. They`re called Point-of-Service Workstations now. Whatever it was, it would cost you about $60 now. A subtle hint about what sport I watched this evening. Catch me if you can.

April 17, 2005
There are unconfirmed reports that spring is here. Hey, bud (part two). Unlike the oblivious bumblebees, this guy let me know he didn`t want me around. Why so glum, Phil? What are two Army helicopters doing over an Air Force town?

April 18, 2005
The birds . . . . . . and the bees (and the flowers in the trees). I had this to contend with on my windshield this morning (and in my respiratory system all day). Two-tone tulip. For some, spring ain`t sprung.

April 19, 2005
Hanging around. `Why am I out here? Because you won`t take my calls. Come back to me, baby, and I promise I`ll stop being obsessive.` Not just another tulip -- a tulip with bricks. Life . . . . . . and death.

April 20, 2005
`Forget it! YOU apologize first.` Where ramen noodles come from. Now you see him . . . . . . now you don`t. Not just another tulip -- a tulip with scenery.

April 21, 2005
It was cold, I was tired, the sun was setting -- but nature didn`t let me down. Lilac in the sky with diamonds. They start out up here . . . . . . and end up down here. The amazing things I see with my camera might have motivated me to become a scientist -- if I weren`t already such an accomplished dancer.

April 22, 2005
Woncha be my neighbor? How much wood would a woodpecker peck if a woodpecker would peck wood? The same variety of shrub as seen on March 26. Just back from the conclave. It was a dark and stormy night.

April 23, 2005
It`s hard to tell here, but it was snowing. Shiny table under funky light. I had to adjust the shutter speed for this shot. I shudder to think what it would`ve looked like if I hadn`t. Shake well before using. I have REALLY gained weight.

April 24, 2005
On December 29 or February 10 this was totally appropriate, but not April 24. As yet the year is unconfirm`d and oft returning Winter`s blast, or black envenom`d fog, the bud and bloom destroys. [Too complicated to attribute] You`re getting sleepy . . . sleeepy . . . How do you get to the NCR Renaissance Auditorium of The Dayton Art Institute? Practice, practice, practice. `American Idol` it ain`t. The soprano on the right won.

Something to do while waiting for the light to change. You expect ME to explain it? The flag of some Caribbean nation? This was dinner . . . . . . and this was dessert.

April 27, 2005
Second day in a row with no time for pictures. I`ll take the chicken club combo, on the left please. When struggling to be creative, shoot obscure closeups. If that fails, rely on humorous captions: Knock, knock! Who`s there? Ventilator. Ventilator who? I vasn`t able to goa before, so I ventilator. Somebody got a new car today. Guess I shouldn`t have bumped it.

April 28, 2005
After the embarrasment of the past two days, I went out of my way to acquire beautiful images today. Ask not for whom the bluebell tolls. Just as much `sunflowers` as their much larger cousins. Capturing nature -- one square inch at a time. I dare you to stick your hand in there.

April 29, 2005
These flowers looked as though they`d been vandalized. Much more to my liking. `The cab driver said there`d be a river around here.` `Oh, here it is.` Please, no wading, no boats or personal watercraft.
