Winter is back. I told you yesterday this was too optimistic. This helps students find their way to class in a blizzard. Is that a snowflake pattern in the glass? I made these glass beads, and didn`t even burn myself.

March 2, 2005
No excuse for students to be late to class. A bright sunshiny day . . . . . . which results in distinct shadows. Hey -- where`s the beach? Then and now.

March 3, 2005
That`s an old fence. That`s a REALLY old fence. The truck driver got tired of not being able to see out the back. Seventeen days until spring! The person who left this probably also throws cigarette butts on the ground.

March 4, 2005
It`s only fitting that a member of the clergy would drive a Spire. Positive reinforcement between teachers and students works both ways. Awww look! There`s a baby one. A contented bird. Angry birds fighting over nesting space. The brutal contest was ended unfairly -- by a cat. Now there`s only one bird...

March 5, 2005
It`s really hard to take a picture of snow falling. I am not! Have a seat. I guess that makes me a vandal, since I unplugged mine a long time ago. I only have eyes for moo.

March 6, 2005
Sport takes many forms. This sport is called color guard. It`s a combination of dance, gymnastics, drill team . . . . . . and fashion. It looks like fun.

March 7, 2005
`I told you to watch your fingers! Okay, what did it look like? Did it have a ring on it?` Nocturne in e minor, Op. 72 No. 1 by Frederic Chopin. Andante et Scherzo by J. Ed. Barat. Tropica by Manuel Ponce. Historical accounts tell us that J. S. Bach was an organist of the highest rank.

Since I had to give a speech in front of a crowd tonight, I renewed an old acquaintance first. Everything is ready for my captivating lecture. The refreshment table had many mini muffins. The punch runneth over. Certain members of the audience were given door prizes.

March 9, 2005
It`s an amazing coincidence that squirrels are tree-color. Hanging around Kennedy Union. Give it another week and there will be people out there. Not surprisingly, this sells a lot better than the kind that has INFERIORE on the label. Walk this way.

March 10, 2005
So I take a lot of cardinals, so what? It is the state bird of Ohio, after all. I was summoned to Washington this morning for an urgent consultation. I told George to go with the yellow tie. In a shocking victory for the liberal left, it was announced today that what`s good for the goose is good for the gander. Fame is fleeting and life ephemeral. The first sign of spring: the shoe trees are blooming.

March 11, 2005
Some comments written about my photo exhibition. Some comments written about another exhibition on campus. Flying fish. It`s really difficult finding shoes my size. Don`t stare.

March 12, 2005
`When you eat Clone Crunch cereal, you`ll never have breakfast alone!` For once, I couldn`t come up with a humerus caption. Operators are not standing by. It`s kind of hard to follow March Madness when you don`t watch TV. I take more pictures of flowers than I do of weeds.

March 13, 2005
`Mom says you have to come down RIGHT NOW!` Preview of coming attractions. I live in a violent neighborhood. Must`ve been a really slow news day. Five shiny apples tall.

March 14, 2005
Each with its own version of the truth. Somewhere there`s a car with Kerry/Edwards and WYSO stickers side by side. Drive-thru education. `And what do you wish from your genie?` Our Lady of the Pines.

March 15, 2005
Sunshine in the alleyway. You are here. Are you sure it`s not sun day? Another lamp?! Another sunny wall?!

March 16, 2005
Nobody told ME about the party. You know, it`s funny: when you`re in the middle of cleaning, the place looks messier than before you started. Tower of power. The Carillon and the Cash. My first effort . . . they will get better (it`s a BIG building).

March 17, 2005
Happy St. Patrick`s Day. I get my car washed once a year on St. Patrick`s Day, whether it needs it or not. One of the posters for my photo exhibit has been humorously defaced by bored college students. Since the sign is taped to the table, it must by definition always be in `this location.` One last sign for today . . .

March 18, 2005
My Web site statistics for March. The first spike was after the opening reception of my photo exhibition; the second came after the newspaper article appeared. My self-portraits are always a little obscure. Lazy river. Good day sunshine. Okay, evolutionists: why the green head?

March 19, 2005
Most of an orchestral snare drummer`s career is spent sitting still (but this is balanced out by `Bolero`). Hours later and miles away, I found another set of mallets. The heart of an upright piano. The heart of a harpsichord. Saturday turned out to be a very percussive day.

March 20, 2005
Where Sen-Sen come from. Christmas isn`t the only time to give presents. Autumn isn`t the only time to take pictures of leaves. Today was a tuxedo day. Church of the Holy Angels at dusk. According to the United Nations, 1.1 billion people around the world lack safe drinking water.

March 21, 2005
They`re all on spring break. Leaf me alone. I for one wouldn`t drink out of it. Church of the Holy Angels at midday. Ready for bees.

March 22, 2005
`What seems to be the trouble, officer?` Squirrels don`t need Tupperware to store their food. Organists in mirror are closer than they appear. I`ve told you before: don`t stare. What one shoots when it`s dark, cold and wet outside.

March 23, 2005
Because I was tired and hungry, all of today`s pictures were taken in my kitchen. I don`t have (or want) a microwave. If an open flame was good enough for our ancestors, it`s good enough for me. It still causes water to boil. Now that`s just weird.

March 24, 2005
Still hanging around (see October 28). I took a nice cool dip after work today (but now I`ve got these little green spots). Poor guy probably gets tired of jokers asking him if he`s got any change. Window CIL. Madness! Madness! [Major Clipton in `Bridge on the River Kwai`].

March 25, 2005
Sink suds -- more bubbles in my kitchen. Suburban sparrows get better birdbaths. Makes you want to volunteer to answer phones, right? This is the world`s best stapler, so I want to buy one myself. Other people would just write down the model number, but I have to take a picture. Can you hear the springtime? Violets are the violins Daisies beat a drum. MARYELLA VAUSE

March 26, 2005
Though Ambrose dearly loved Lucille, he knew that to marry the simple dairymaid would cost him his inheritance and Norrington Manor. Mixed messages. Flexible rigidity. It looked complicated at first, but now I think I`ve got a handle on it. I suffered from a bad complexion when I was a teenager.

March 27, 2005
Happy Easter. What good is a holiday if you can`t make a few bucks off of it? One of a few glimpses of sunshine. Flowers and bugs, together again. To the victor goes the spoils (see March 4). Actually this is the survivor; the victor was a cat.

March 28, 2005
By the time you see this, these gallery walls will be bare. It was a lot easier to take down my photos than it was to hang them. My favorite one. The final visitor to my exhibition. (I don`t know why she`s so upset -- those glasses may come back in style.) I love smudges!

March 29, 2005
Sunrise in St. Petersburg. Morning at Miami Beach. How shiny it must have been when it was new. The Dayton Woman`s Club is painted pink. If you haven`t been there lately, you should go. It`s free.

March 30, 2005
Taken in a hurry and with great fear. Reminds me of February 25`s melting ice. The flowers appear on the earth; The time of the singing of birds is come, And the voice of the turtle-dove is heard in our land. SONG OF SOLOMON 2:12 Silky seedlings sweetly slumber. `That`s okay, mom, I can walk the rest of the way.`

March 31, 2005
I think I like this scene at sunset rather than sunrise (compare to March 15). March goes out like a lion. Those are whitecaps on the river. Termites. A beakful of bugs and looking for more. Patriotism and sacrifice.
