I can assure you that I`ve never seen the North Dakota State University Lady Bison volleyball team play better. In a cluttered world, simplicity is refreshing. Two teams from other states played in Ohio. I went to the game glad that there wouldn`t be many people there. The teams were evenly matched. This would be perfect -- if only she played for Dayton.

This was one of the top two North Dakota State games I`ve ever seen (see September 1 above). This team was from Ohio, so more fans were there. I took photos of No. 7 when she was still in high school. This is harder than it looks -- and IT HURTS! Somebody won, somebody lost. I don`t remember.

They sweated in the sun. I sat comfortably in the shade. Somebody once told me soccer isn`t a contact sport. They should just keep an ambulance idling nearby. When shadows covered most of the field, I went home. She heroically made 14 saves, but it wasn`t enough.

I visited a large Oakwood home that had many fountains. This fountain is made out of trombones. The resident turtle. Same neighborhood, different swing (see April 23, 2008). There was also a swimming pool.

September 5, 2023
I had to get away from work and visit an urban park. Perfection is temporary. Shake your tail feather. Staying hydrated on a hot summer day. Water, near and far.

September 6, 2023
No, just stop right there. Natural and artificial. Face full of pollen. Signs of summer. Rain washed the chalk away, but I still have this photo.

September 7, 2023
No, I`m not ready. I like being outside, but wouldn`t want to work there. Just another day of sharing the crosswalk with cars. Sometimes you try to help somebody and all you end up doing is wasting time and getting rained on. I ran across some of my 1980s era audio productions.

Morning games allow me to take pictures before work. One team was from Dayton, and the other from Illinois. The net says Dayton Flyers -- but these aren`t them. I don`t have any connections to the players or teams. I get some nice photos and then I go to my real job.

September 9, 2023
Law and order. Lawless disorder. Long term commitment. Jammers are special `cause they have stars upon thars. Win or lose, both teams take a victory lap.

September 10, 2023
Roller derby yesterday -- flowers and butterflies today. I`ve gotta get my five photos one way or another. Not actually a butterfly, but it looks good on a flower. Definitely not a butterfly. The days are running short for summer bugs like this. I saved the best for last.

September 11, 2023
Loneliness in a crowd. Fulfillment in solitude. I had to laugh when I saw `No Riding on Sidewalks.` I`ve almost gotten run over on the sidewalk many times. I have a warped self-image. The walnut bandit.

September 12, 2023
When I`m busy at work, I have to shoot in the evening. It`s exhausting to watch other people exercise. I wonder where geese sleep at night -- but I don`t care. The fountain will probably stop running pretty soon. I was in the right place at the right time.

Squirrels make a mess of the porch at this time of year. It was a bright and sunny walk to work this morning. I stood in the middle of the street for this shot, but lived. I ordered this lunch last week. I have no idea what it is. The humiliation continues (see August 29, 2023).

An aging bee still does the thing it was born to do. Big Sister is Watching You. Red light runner at 9:47:54am. Red light runner at 9:48:30am. Fuel for a public radio pledge drive.

Nothing excites a crowd like t-shirts flying through the air. Nice catch! Carlos Santana wasn`t at the Levitt Pavilion, but that`s okay because Elsten Torres was. I don`t speak the Spanish, but I recognized one song. The end of another season at Levitt Pavilion Dayton.

September 16, 2023
September 16 is a good day to be a Mexican. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! Traditional vejigante from Puerto Rico. That smile (see June 2, 2022). I`m glad to see these kids embracing their culture.

September 17, 2023
Future squirrel food. Don`t leave on my account. You can`t hide. Flowers are a gift. All is well.

Reflections on downtown Dayton. Coming apart at the seams? Just taking a photograph of The Thing isn`t enough. Choosing what`s around The Thing is vitally important. One-third of a second of this person`s life. What should I write in the wet concrete?

September 19, 2023
A photographer wrote a book saying water is intelligent and communicates with us through its shape. I don`t believe water (or that photographer) is intelligent. The goldfinch doesn`t know I`m there. The black-capped chickadee doesn`t care I`m there. A juvenile bald eagle lacks the dark feathers of an adult. Trees are thinking about it.

I told her that I respect her discipline to use a tripod. I didn`t write in the cement, but somebody walked in it (see September 18 above). I was glad to learn that Dayton Metro Library is a Book Sanctuary, seeking out books that have been subject to bans, making them available for patrons to check out. The state bird of Ohio. Time to update my e-mail notification settings.

I push a button to take a picture of this dancer . . . . . . meanwhile, a real artist draws the same dancers. I guess I shouldn`t chant `Goooooo Dayton Flyers!` (see September 3, 2021). Wright State is training a new generation of musicians. `Life is a cabaret, old chum. Come to the cabaret!`

September 22, 2023
Everything was going so well. Why does this happen? The trees do not like strangers. They watch you. `The Fellowship of the Ring` by J. R. R. TOLKIEN Who has been in that abandoned building? The neverending renovation of the Dayton Arcade. The squirrel goes to work in the morning as I head to work in the opposite direction (see the reflection).

September 23, 2023
A large prairie, but only one butterfly. The sky was more interesting than the leaves today. The water level was shockingly low. We need rain. Bumblebees were out in large numbers. The top half of a frog.

September 24, 2023
It was a difficult day at Mulhollan Field. Ohio State club football rolled over Wright State 48 - 0. The iconic football photo. The iconic sideline photo. Don`t just make the tackle -- try to knock the ball loose.

September 25, 2023
Someone was living on the bench in front of my building. Apparently the solution was to remove the bench. There was no sun or rainbows. It was cloudy all day. Positive affirmations from asphalt. I`ve got my ducks in a row. Nessie is sighted in Dayton.

September 26, 2023
Tree huggers beware. Only after the light turned red did the bus even begin to cross the intersection. This is a `professional` driver. Maybe it`s a sculpture. That`s a lot of fruit, but I`m sure I can finish it. Oh yeah, I need one more picture today.

September 27, 2023
There used to be benches, and people living on them, but now both are gone (see September 25 above). Smoke break. There`s a new Italian restaurant where I`ll never eat. Shades of red (see March 30, 2006). It says D A Y and the other side says T O N.

September 28, 2023
That time of year when yellow leaves, or none, or few, do get tracked into the house. NOT SHAKESPEARE Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in! MICHAEL CORLEONE What`s on your wishing tree? Evening in the Oregon District. Your real life begins when you accept that life ends.

September 29, 2023
The moon is really beat up. We need a new one. Harvest moon things. It was a dull night in the Oregon District -- until . . . . . . I saw a fire juggler lighting up the night. She looked in her tip jar and said, `Oh, I made a whole dollar.` I put more cash in the jar after I took these shots.

I wasn`t standing on the field, but I was close. You can`t use your hands, but you can use anything else. It was another shutout for the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week. The home team scored one goal, but that was enough. Some team members will never play on this field again.
