Thanks to the anonymous people who fix broken things (see January 26, 2023). Six o`clock and it isn`t dark. I have reason to hope. Car on the sidewalk, but I can handle just about anything. A healthy dinner is followed by lumps of fat and sugar. Another month, another face (see December 23, 2022).

A vacant building, or a politician`s office? I won`t ride in anything that doesn`t have a heater. I walked outside and now everything tastes like salt. The Dayton Metro Library has acquired Angelo Hobson`s painting of the Dunbar House (see June 25, 2022). The library presented Dr. Gene Andrew Jarrett, author of a new Dunbar biography (see December 24, 2022).

Staying in my creepy parking garage is better than going outside in the cold. FYI: The building with the blue roof is for sale. It`s been a long week, but it`s almost over. Whatever that gunk is up there, I`m breathing it. My science experiment (see April 6, 2021) was inconclusive. I drove around looking for a colorful sunset -- and failed.

Open house! Free cake! I have vague recollections of what these symbols mean. Eighteen strings. Out of action.

Jammers are the stars of roller derby. Thus the helmets. Blockers do their best to stop the jammers. The laws of physics work against the jammers. But jammers use speed and agility to get past blockers. This was a scrimmage: Dayton vs. Dayton. Dayton won.

Paul Laurence Dunbar inverted. Daffodils are thinking about it. `Does the human have food? No, just a camera.` Dayton`s been around since 1796. It`s in need of repair. Statues of fighters far outnumber statues of peacemakers.

It wasn`t cold today, but it was rainy. I was reluctant to go outside and get wet. Wandering around the building I came across this. This is one of the benefits of working in an arts center. Plus I got a free cookie.

On a day of meetings, picture-taking starts at 6:06pm. The parking garage is pretty empty when I get off work. When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I have a lot of meetings, I simply play my favorite jazz. Dunno if it`s good for me, but it`s good. There`s an explanation, but mystery is better.

On the anniversary of the death of Paul Laurence Dunbar, a graveside commemoration took place at Woodland Cemetery. Laverne Sci led the event, as she has for 35 years. Mayor Jeffrey Mims read a proclamation declaring this Paul Laurence Dunbar day in Dayton. Reginald Harmon played his saxophone during the ceremony. Reginald Harmon is the artist who sculpted a bust of Dunbar that was on display in Woodland`s Mausoleum.

Gems of the Gem City: crazy guy yells at kids on their way to a concert. I`m glad Alexa isn`t standing there anymore (see August 28, 2022). Every year at this time, I feel trapped by winter. My new office? I missed the green comet and the Chinese balloon. Maybe I`m looking out the wrong window.

February 11, 2023
I found the world`s smallest tree. This hooded mersanger and I both had our hoods on. The weather is getting warmer. I call it Fool`s Spring. These flowers will probably be covered in snow soon. Please fasten your safety belt and return your tray to the upright and locked position.

When I first started in photography, people told me `You should buy a light meter` (see May 2, 2006). So in 2006, I spent $278.19 on a light meter. I figured out how it worked and used it a few times (see May 11, 2006). But most of the time, it stayed in the box (see September 29, 2012). So, who wants to buy my light meter? I`ll throw in a couple of batteries.

The Old Man and the Sea. Somewhere in America. It`s 58 degrees: no ice skating today. I keep a safe distance from geese. Coffee drinkers and cigarette smokers make the world a more beautiful place (see February 26, 2020).

February 14, 2023
When I see situations like this develop, I just hang back (see January 26, 2023). Yes, this still happens. Welcome. I may have a buyer for my light meter (see February 12 above). On Valentine`s Day, I had many dates to choose from.

Geese may safely graze. My first pollinator of the year. This morning I discovered that this big guy lives under my neighbor`s back porch. Waited for something interesting to happen. Still waiting. It`s 65 degrees and I`m shooting fungus.

The opening scene of `Steel Magnolias` has a lot of hairspray and gunshots. Shelby, one of the main characters, really likes pink. My real-life friend (in the chair) is playing a character who is dying, so it was a rough night for me. The most heart-rending moment of the play was quickly followed by slapstick comedy, lightening the mood. No worries: my friend came back to life for final bows.

I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep. ROBERT FROST The last trace of the last snowflake of winter -- hopefully. My two hangouts in downtown Dayton. Taken from the front seat of my car with the heater on. Cop cars blocked streets downtown with no explanation.

Parking was $5, admission $20. Worth every dollar. I saw some shows that will become my new favorites. Just like me, they long to be close to you. BURT BACHARACH My Canon R5 makes it easy for me to get this shot. The Nikon photographer sitting near me probably missed it. This show was called Jackie O, but a young competitor in the stands asked `Was that about Nancy Reagan?`

Bonfire later? This shop window display looks very cat-friendly. I had a dream that I found flowers by the sidewalk, but they were daffodils, not crocuses. You`ll be seeing oh so many more birds here soon. The telltale sign that renovations are coming soon.

February 20, 2023
There were a few bees around, but they were shy. It`s a national holiday (for some) so I walked outside. It`s Presidents Day, so I see Abraham Lincoln`s face. The biggest woodpecker I`ve ever seen. In some cases, `born yesterday` is not a criticism.

February 21, 2023
After a difficult night, I staggered out of bed. The clock said 10:05 and my thermometer said 100.5. I`ve avoided negative reactions to vaccines -- until now. That was one expensive Band-Aid. It was a warm, sunny day, but I never made it outside. I don`t remember if I went to bed at 10:24, but it was another rough night.

February 22, 2023
I lived through the night, but took another day off work. Fortunately, my pre-recorded voice was heard on the radio, or else there would`ve been panic in the city. I was able to walk outside, but this is how I felt. It was almost windy enough to blow over an invalid. Still, there were traces of spring on the ground. But wow, I really shouldn`t have bent over to take this picture.

To keep your documents confidential, make sure they`re carefully shredded, and then scattered in the street. Daffodil or daffodon`t? Live at peace with yourself and with nature. After two days of being home sick, I went to work today, but was exhausted after this walk outside. The ice skating rink has become a pond -- and after this I SAW A BUTTERFLY! I guess spring has sprung.

February 24, 2023
And if your confidential documents end up in the middle of the street, get a leaf blower (see February 23 above). Not fair: parking was restricted so a pipeline crew could work, but they didn`t show up today. I`m glad I don`t have to work in a little cubicle. There are a lot of Greek people in Dayton. Shapes of the Schuster.

It`s the most wonderful time of the year: the weather is getting warmer, and color guard season has started! I dunno what kind of pictures people around me get with their cell phones, but I`m quite happy with my Canon R5. Centerville High School brought an otherwordly show. Color guard is about the ensemble and the individual. I try to shoot pictures that don`t look like they were taken in a high school gym.

February 26, 2023
Today I taught a workshop about closeup photography. The class TOOK PICTURES OUTSIDE in February! Is it good or bad that flowers are blooming already? Will birds and animals adjust their seasonal schedules? For now, I`m selfishly enjoying the warm weather and hoping for the best.

A new addition to the cemetery of dead CD players (see October 23, 2017). The Emergency Alert System was busy this afternoon. It was one tornado warning after another today. Lots of wind in downtown Dayton, but no tornado. Ask your doctor if Nextiva is right for you.

February 28, 2023
The daffodil finally arrived, and it brought some friends (see February 23 above). At this time of year, random logs float down the river from unknown forests in the north. I always feel like somebody`s watching me. ROCKWELL Today during lunch I walked past by three landscaping crews. The entire downtown area reeked of mulch. One landscaping crew was busily cutting down trees. Cuz why do we need trees?
