I used to take photos on the prairie almost every day. Now I`m mostly at the river, but I came back today. I`m not the cat I used to be. I got a kid, I`m thirty-three. Purr meow! CHRISSIE HYNDE My morn has just begun. I greet the dawn and not a setting sun. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR When you go outside, don`t look too closely. Got my flying bee photo, so I can go now.

The ducks came closer and she ran away screaming. We`re lucky to have plenty of water around here. Sparkly. I`m part of the 9% of Americans who get no exercise. The person in the orange kayak flipped over and spent a terrifyingly long time under water trying to get back up.

Instead of giving money to beggars, downtowners are asked to put it in these meters to bring Real Change. So many plans for this corner (see August 5, 2013). Saints preserve us. At the rainbow`s end, I found only a few cigarette butts. The invention of the automobile has only hastened the end of our civilization and spoiled life on this planet.

I`ve seen him around town and taken his picture before, but just tonight I learned that his name is Edde Osborne (see June 11, 2017). No paintbrush? No problem! Trying out a violin at the instrument petting zoo. Tonight was a big arts party -- or an AAHRRTS party. Just another Friday night in the Oregon District.

There are two spots of light in this duck`s eye. One is natural (the sun) and the other is from me (my flash). This was part of a fun photo class I taught this morning. I warned the participants they might get a little wet. There was a giant ribbon-cutting outside the new library. After years of construction, it`s finally open!

Hold my hand and we`re halfway there. STEPHEN SONDHEIM Hold my hand and I`ll take you there. STEPHEN SONDHEIM Make of our hands one hand. STEPHEN SONDHEIM One hand, one heart. STEPHEN SONDHEIM The sand crinkle-crunches underneath my feet. AMY BERNON

The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls. PAUL SIMON The other trees are jealous. Down by the shore. If you could sit with me upon the shore today and hold my hand in yours as in the days of old. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR Am I the last of my kind? JASON ISBELL

The highlight of my day was an outdoor concert on a beautiful summer afternoon. The rest of the day was a train wreck in slow motion. I found enough time to eat carrots for dinner. When I take pictures of food and blinds, it`s a bad day. The comforts of home.

August 9, 2017
Sure, it`s just another person asking for money on the sidewalk, but at least this one has style. The splitter-splatter of wet feet. Standing at attention. Urban oasis. Sunset in the city.

August 10, 2017
Mermaid. Superhero. Landmark. Dancer. Model.

August 11, 2017
GermanFest! Time to learn some traditional German dances. Even the French can-can dancers used Austrian music. Junge Liebe. Alte Liebe.

August 12, 2017
Everybody polka! GermanFest day two. Only after looking at this photo later did I feel hungry. Inga, Helga and Frieda. Fun for the whole familie.

August 13, 2017
GermanFest day three began with a Polka Mass. No piano or organ were necessary at Polka Mass. An offering was collected by men who carried swords. Auf Wiedersehen to GermanFest 2017! Here`s how I planned for my photo shoot on August 10.

This photo has a country feel, but we were in the city. I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul. WILLIAM ERNEST HENLEY When all else fails, I can always take pictures of flowers. Sparky. They`ll both be going away to college soon.

August 15, 2017
I`ve seen the cormorant three times now (see June 21, 2017). Today I learned that it dives under water to hunt. Also seen in the river today. The glasses. The red hair. This downtown resident is feeling development fatigue. Walking along the canal.

What other people do while I sit in an office. And that`s why we`re in such deep trouble. That evening sunflower go down. We were both about ready to call it a night. If only it was that easy to just start over.

August 17, 2017
The color of the sky at lunchtime. Who says you can`t take pictures of the wind? This a meteorological, not a political, photo. I nearly got blown over myself. Always the rulebreaker.

August 18, 2017
They start working much earlier than I do. Eight ladies dancing. My friend can set you up with a nice apartment here. Main Street sparkles in the morning. At the rainbow`s end: weeds and cigarette butts.

Slowly buzzing o`er my head a swallow wings her flight. I hear the weary plowman sing as falls the restful night. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR `Tis fine to play in the fragrant hay and romp on the golden load; to ride old Jack to the barn and back. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR Gifted with the skill divine take up the threads of life, spun fine, and weave them into soulful song. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR It`s hot today. The horses stumble half asleep across the fiel`s; An` a host o` teasin` fancies o`er my burnin` senses steals. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR You cain`t sta`t no notes a-flyin` lak de ones dat rants and rings f`om de kitchen to be big woods when Malindy sings. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR

A reclusive flower reluctantly emerges. A bird`s daily life is mostly about eating. If you sit quietly, you never know who might come along. Why I should always keep carrots in my pocket. This isn`t the hummingbird photo that I wanted, but it`s the hummingbird photo that I got.

August 21, 2017
She was justifiably proud of her eclipse viewing box. Others used simpler methods of viewing the eclipse. An astronomical event turned into a social occasion. This was the simplest method of eclipse watching I saw. This is as close as I got to photographing the eclipse.

August 22, 2017
This morning I went for a long walk in my neighborhood. My vision of the world is a little warped. I mostly took pictures in shop windows today. I told some of my best jokes and she never smiled. The latest artwork in the Oregon District.

August 23, 2017
People have got to know whether or not their president is a crook. RICHARD NIXON Today ALMOST makes up for all those long winter days. Sparrows pretending to be waterfowl. Convergence. I wanted to see where it went, but had to get to work.

August 24, 2017
I often wonder why people don`t call the police on me. High above the streets and sidewalks of Dayton. Hey wait, that`s MY place to ponder the meaning of life. Mornings by the river used to mean lots of waterfowl. Today it was only me and this meandering mallard. `Heigh-ho, heigh-ho, it`s off to work we go!`

August 25, 2017
Puzzle of Light! Apparently it`s a work in progress (see August 22 above). Nice specs. I still see Barbie around town (July 15, 2012). Why are cats allowed to do things that dogs aren`t?

August 26, 2017
Why I don`t park under this tree in the late summer. You also can`t use an apostrophe. Sidewalk serenade. Two bees, or not two bees? He must go through a lot of chalk.

August 27, 2017
I wonder if I can have flames painted on my 2012 Scion. Corvettes are always nice . . . Mustangs deserve respect . . . But it really all begins and ends with Camaro. In a few days, this will be gone (see August 26 above).

August 28, 2017
Play these four notes in order and you get `When I was just [a little girl, I asked my mother what will I be].` The flugelhorn, or `wing horn,` was used in battle or a hunt to give directions to people on the wings or edges. Certain members of my family played the accordion, although they would probably deny it now. It don`t mean a thing if it ain`t got them strings. Why a snare drum sounds the way it does.

August 29, 2017
Sky, interrupted. There is something white and foamy on the river today. Nature`s cupcake? The little city that could. Fishing requires patience. There may still be butterflies in other parts of the world, but they`re getting pretty scarce around here.

August 30, 2017
Awww, he has your eyes! When worlds collide. The leaves are starting to turn colors. Not buzz-ing, just zzz-ing. This finch`s greed for seed kept it sitting still on this plant as I got closer and closer with my camera.

August 31, 2017
It hurt a lot, but it`s already starting to grow back. Fall is falling. Singing her heart out to nobody. Pondering the meaning of life (see August 24 above). Urban details.
