Reading. Listening. Wishing. Cleaning. Reflecting.

March 2, 2017
Scenes from a kitchen. Not another banana! The march of time. I`ve got gas. A non-stick photo.

In 1892, James Naismith first published the rules of basketball. In 1892, Thomas Edison was awarded a patent for the telegraph. In 1892, the General Electric Company was incorporated. In 1892, The Nutcracker ballet was first performed. In 1892, this piano was built.

A scene from this morning`s photography workshop. It really annoys me when my neighbors leave their Valentine trees up a long time (see February 14, 2017). We`re both feeling betrayed by the weather. Earlier today there was snow on these flowers. The colors of springtime.

March 5, 2017
Light travels in waves. I only have eyes for you. A little snow yesterday didn`t do any harm. Wondering why all the other birds flew away. It`s warm again now, and THIS TIME it`s going to stay.

March 6, 2017
It was a dark and stormy night. Eye in the sky. Not a lake, just the sidewalk. PLEASE BEHAVE YOURSELF Almost good enough to eat.

March 7, 2017
My first day on the radio at WDPR was 30 years ago. My handwriting was a lot better back then. This wasn`t accidental. I suspect somebody lives here. Spring has been temporarily delayed. Please stand by. How well can you swim? Looks like we`ve both survived another winter.

March 8, 2017
The metal man at Main and Monument. Me at sunset 1. Me at sunset 2. Sunset without me. My desperate fifth picture today is of washer fluid.

March 9, 2017
`SHARK!` River sparkles. I walked a long way to get to this tree. I held the camera firmly with both hands. My desperate fifth picture today is of nacho chips.

March 10, 2017
The idiot driver(s) of the day. The expedient driver of the day. Oh, so THAT`S what they`re building. Downtown Dayton is one big construction zone. Just try and stop me.

March 11, 2017
It was 4pm before I convinced myself to go outside. Remember that movie `Miles Ahead`? Oil on canvas would last longer. Random dude tapped on window until I took his picture. Can I crawl under there? I`m freezing.

March 12, 2017
Ready to be turned into a hotel (see January 27, 2013). It`s probably best not to come out just yet. Winter has returned, so these flowers are in jeopardy. Just another Saturday night in the Oregon District. Just another Saturday night in the Oregon District.

March 13, 2017
Who was the only president that was never elected? A cat made of bronze. Don`t step on its hairballs. Lodged. My creepy former parking garage was closed since it would be dangerous to send firefighters in there if it started burning. Guess what happened today? My building was evacuated due to smoke, so I sat in a diner and ate mac-n-cheese while they put out the fire.

March 14, 2017
Yesterday`s fire in the abandoned garage was probably due to people living in it. Note the comfy chair and old electric heater (and the door hacked open by firemen). With their former hideout burned, I wasn`t surprised to see two shattered doors at a vacant building nearby. The sun is low, the waters flow, my boat is dancing to and fro. The eve is still, yet from the hill the killdeer echoes loud and shrill. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR Five days until spring. Looking up from the smelly, icy alley.

March 15, 2017
How the firefighters got in (see March 13 above). I don`t think this will keep people out of the garage. Batman can park wherever he wants. That`s my soul up there. STING I guess Christmas is finally over.

March 16, 2017
Somebody needs to clean the river every day. A mallard at the quack of dawn. How about another bird? One more bird! It was a brutally windy day.

March 17, 2017
One is the loneliest number that you`ll ever do. HARRY NILSSON Tea for two and two for tea. IRVING CAESAR Three is a magic number. BOB DOROUGH Four dead in Ohio. NEIL YOUNG Here am I begging for only five minutes more. SAMMY CAHN

March 18, 2017
Spring came early, and then disappeared again. When the weather is warm, I am happy. When the weather is cold, I am unhappy. It`s that simple. Spring will come, a second time, pretty soon. In the meanwhile, my pictures have suffered badly.

March 19, 2017
Robins constantly hunt for food along the ground. Other birds look for food in the trees. My skin gets this way in the winter. Male and female mourning doves foraged together. This magnolia tree began to bloom when it was warm, but then the flowers froze.

March 20, 2017
I`m forever searching for my identity. Here`s where I make the magic happen every day. Puddle. Nesting time. You can have an autographed baton for only $1000.

March 21, 2017
Ranger likes to be on the radio. Pledge room paraphernalia. So it`s come to this. Kitchen blur. Girl Scout cookies are the only remedy for today.

March 22, 2017
There has been a new addition to the family. The word canon means a standard of quality. I had a 5D Mark III, so I was a whole mark behind. I can`t even turn it on yet. I have to charge the battery first.

March 23, 2017
Famous violinist Yevgeny Kutik tunes up. If the parking garage doesn`t burn down, it will fall down (see March 13 above). The new rocks in the river attract more waterfowl. I hate getting caught with a mouthful of grass. With a new arrival in the family (see March 22 above), another member of the family will be put up for adoption.

March 24, 2017
Lacking any myself, I photograph people with talent. After a difficult week, there was reason to celebrate. Somebody on the sidewalk shouted after me, `Hey CAMERA MAN!` I kept walking. That ain`t my name. It`s motorcycle season in the Oregon District. There aren`t many new houses in my neighborhood.

March 25, 2017
How much wood would a woodpecker peck if a woodpecker would peck wood? I walked among last year`s leftovers and thought about this summer`s butterflies. No, really, I`m fine. See, I`m still moving. Days like this are fleeting and precious. The birds were thinking about making little birds.

March 26, 2017
My first droplets of spring. Coming soon: first butterfly. Because it`s raining, that`s why. Getting ready for color guard weekend. As time goes on, my good pictures get gooder, but my bad pictures get badder. I finally turned on my new camera and took a picture (see March 22 above). I`m making progress.

March 27, 2017
It`s important for me to get outside and spend some time with birds, bugs and blooms every day. Warm weather means the return of people mindlessly wandering around, ignoring the natural world around them and focusing on their phones. It turns my stomach. Muddy goose. Muddy human. Do you have the latest Adam Alonzo photo book?

March 28, 2017
Lincoln`s lunch: cream cheese bagel (see September 22, 2016). The library`s grand opening gala is in 26 days. A day late and a dollar short. Time for me to get outside and take some portraits. PED XING

March 29, 2017
Time for you to go back to Canada, I do believe. `STOP TAKING PICTURES OF GULLS!` That`s one brand-spanking-new butterfly (see March 26 above). Shipped from Illinois, delivered by the US Postal Service 7 days later, by way of Columbus, Cincinnati, Columbus, Cincinnati, Bellbrook, Cincinnati, Dayton and Cincinnati. Shipped from New York, delivered by UPS 2 days later, by way of Columbus. Oh, and shipping was free.

March 30, 2017
I had to duck for a duck. True love is written in concrete. The robin was stalking worms; I was stalking the robin. Days with spring flowers are better than days without. Days with blossoming trees are the best days of all.

March 31, 2017
Ginger on a windy day. I`m usually taking pictures at this time every day. Shouldn`t those blades be spinning? You can lock people out . . . . . . but you can`t lock out nature.
