Not quite a Steinway, but close. This turtle is trying to eat healthy. At the beginning of the night. At the end of the night. Please, sir, may I have some more?

`Here, let me help you with that.` Ride now! Ride now! Ride to ruin and the world`s ending! KING THEODEN in `The Return of the King` There`s always someone standing in the way of your goal. `Hi, my name`s Emily, and this is my elbow.` (See November 22, 2013) Pink stick, pink fingernails.

As soon as graduation is over, mom and dad get to work. I get my new car washed more often than my old one. As this couple got their picture taken . . . . . . this couple watched and got ideas. Tulips are blooming, and two eyes and two ears.

The Square is where. Keeping an eye on Ludlow Street. High above the city streets, birds fight to the death. Sprucing up the Victoria Theatre for its 150th birthday. So . . . it was windy today.

May 5, 2015
A school was demolished so these could grow here. Afternoon sun. High above the city streets, someone is watching you. There`s a new way to get around Dayton. I`ll have something GOOD to photograph later this week.

Springtime at Smith Garden. If you want to take a photo of a cardinal, do it very quickly. I didn`t have the bug lens today, but this one turned out. Growth spurt. Future frogs.

May 7, 2015
It`ll cost ya to ride one of the new green bikes. Lunchtime on Courthouse Square. Guy in a hole, part one. Guy in a hole, part two. Guy in the air.

This was just a test shot. I`d say it was a successful test. Four little swans. I`ve photographed her dancing for a decade and now she`s ready to graduate and begin a new phase of life. Look at her go! Yes, I was sitting in the front row.

May 9, 2015
My camera did quite well considering the difficult lighting. I went to the same dance recital two nights in a row. After seeing this leap on Friday, I was ready on Saturday. The fog flowed off the stage onto people in the front row. I`m not sure when I`ll see this talented dancer perform again (or if I`ll be able to take pictures while she does).

I am not highly strung. Does that mean I`m lowly strung? I nearly intruded into a neighbor`s yard to get this shot. There are two challenges in effect: capture compelling pictures of a concert, and avoid disturbing the audience. These two tenor don`t need no stinkin` microphones. I wasn`t the only one trying to preserve the moment.

May 11, 2015
It`s the most wonderful time of the year. You know, of course, that lions don`t sleep in the jungle, the mighty jungle, they sleep on the plain, the grassy plain. And then it began to rain on my head. Welcome to Dayton. The last thing my camera sees every day.

May 12, 2015
Lunch break. How legends get started. Out with the old. Green with envy. What if you gave a concert and nobody came?

May 13, 2015
My first trip to the downtown post office -- and I find this. Apparently the greeting cards are free for the taking. I walk around town at lunch. Others are more energetic. There`s plenty of room for development in the center city. That must be some sort of balcony above the entrance. Just another face in the crowd.

Beauty is fleeting. The protective instinct. Lost face. Nature pictures outside a restaurant along a busy street. Green bicycles are everywhere. This is a good thing.

May 15, 2015
More bitter bird fights over downtown (see May 4 above). It`s the small birds that attack the large ones. I doubt this plant is native to an alley in the Oregon District. A new face, but an old horn, appears on East Fifth Street. It`s hard to roar with that thing in your mouth. Attention humanity: Nature will win. Nature always wins.

May 16, 2015
I was prepared to take pictures of flowers today, but nature had other plans for me. No matter what kind of camera you have, if you lack patience then you`re never going to get a shot like this. One female, two males, and a brutal battle. To have and to hold from this day forth. And one more bird on my way to the parking lot.

May 17, 2015
`No birds today,` I told myself as I went outside. My picture taking was delayed by rain this morning. The rain left behind some nice droplets. There was a spider among the spiderwort this morning. My reflection can be seen in its numerous eyes. It`s a good day when pictures are done before 10:00am.

Ants love peonies. When my neighborhood was built, this was transportation. That`s why there are no driveways or garages here. Orange. Who decided on orange? Resting up before a full day of mischief. Oh, the skies they are blue, the fields are green, and the birds in your nest will soon be seen! PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR

Morning in the Oregon District -- maybe 2015 or 1915. Bright sunlight brings with it dark shadows. Rise above adversity. Just another day at the office. Planning tomorrow night`s concert.

May 20, 2015
Backstage before the concert. Vocal warmups. All is ready. I`m the only person authorized to take photos during the concert, but no doubt moms and dads are snapping away. In Flanders Fields.

May 21, 2015
I sat at the Mahler table, but Gustav never showed up. It`s challenging to photograph a harpist. Raspberry juice in its earliest stage of evolution. Going nowhere fast. And it came to pass when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. JOSHUA 6:20

May 22, 2015
I`m supposed to eat all that -- in one day? I worked overtime on Friday so I can get Monday off. What`s the advantage here? Shot out the car window on the way home after a long day. I send text messages, but I don`t say, `I texted you.` If it`s an important message, however, it`s written down.

Tis the season for graduation parties. Who took all these great pictures of this graduate? This graduation party had its own live entertainment. When did she have time to be in NHS? Congratulations, Hazel!

May 24, 2015
Each petal has hundreds of short hairs on the back. A girl in a First Communion dress was photographed nearby, followed later by a family with a baby. I just tried to stay out of the way of the other photographer. Yes, someday you will take to the air and fly away. Among the dewdrops.

May 25, 2015
Great moments in evolution: goat decides to stand upright (see March 14, 2014). `It`s time -- I say, it`s time fer everbody to WAKE UP!` Just flew in from the coast. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but ugly is unanimous. Illiteracy killed the cat.

May 26, 2015
Today I begin my twelfth year of taking photos every day. Security breach. The secret to a happy life is achieving proper balance. It was a gloomy walk to the post office this morning. In memory of Mary Ellen Mark (1940 - 2015).

May 27, 2015
Tormenting ducks: one of the many services boys provide. Robins like berries. She hasn`t looked this good in 150 years. I`d probably fall off and skin my knee. Blues for lunch.

May 28, 2015
The morning commute. I walked past these pots on Tuesday and Wednesday, but stopped to take a photo on Thursday. I stood still for a long time and this is all I got out of it. Chocolate and happy often go together. That ain`t workin`, that`s the way ya do it. Ya play the gee-tar on the MTV. DIRE STRAITS

May 29, 2015
Other people`s jobs. Other people`s jobs. Other people`s jobs. Yet another angle on the Schuster Center. A flower grows in Oakwood. Lots of them, actually.

May 30, 2015
A donkey named Cuervo. Sorry, I didn`t catch the goat`s name. You have no idea what`s in store for you today. It`s shearing day! Wool fresh from the sheep.

May 31, 2015
Fifteen year old pianist. Seventeen year old harpist. Eighteen year old cellist. Fifteen year old bassoonist. Sixteen year old baritone.
