More police cars outside, this time with an ambulance. The building across the street is a good place not to live (see February 28, 2014, and March 19, 2012). `FIRST!` Cheese? Today I learned that tread depth is only one indicator of when tires need to be replaced. It was a costly lesson to learn.

Winter storm Titan brings the entire city to a grinding halt. Snowplows struggle to keep up with the blizzard. Desperate citizens are trapped in their homes. Cut off from their food supply, birds consider other options. Thank goodness the Weather Channel warned us!

March 3, 2014
It`s starting to melt already. Where the sidewalk ends. A smile that could melt your heart. Oh great, there goes my tax refund. It`s Monday! Open a new container.

If people divided up the sky and claimed ownership of it, we would laugh. But we take it very seriously when they do it to the earth. A hint of sunset. Why I wear boots every day. It was the only one in sight. Maybe the first, maybe the last. `Woof!`

March 5, 2014
I`m going to limit myself to ONE box of girl scout cookies. Winter holds on. The endless roofing project across the street. It`s a few inches longer than it was yesterday. Tonight I REALLY wanted to find a certain book.

March 6, 2014
Straight bar, wavy shadow. Sunset in America. What this Web page needs is more pictures of birds. Apple juice. I`m looking forward to color guard season!

For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance. Let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely. SONG OF SOLOMON 2:11-14

Spyro Gyra: Julio Fernandez. Spyro Gyra: Jay Beckenstein. Spyro Gyra: Lee Pearson. Spyro Gyra: Tom Schuman. Spyro Gyra: Scott Ambush.

Sometimes percussion is aggressive. Sometimes percussion is subtle. It turns out Eve was a blonde. Who knew? Today was just a warmup for the world championships next month. Eve`s sister?

March 10, 2014
Pylon down! Lack of effective leadership. Really, what`s the point? (See February 2, 2014, and April 4, 2013) The taxidermist did a good job. It looks so lifelike. I walked out of the house determined to find some flowers.

March 11, 2014
Someone came running after me later to say I`d dropped my lens cap. I patiently explained, `I don`t use Nikon.` Ah, there`s the rub. Peace and love on Fourth Street. Reign, rein, rain. Who made up the English language? Like that anymore they do not make them.

March 12, 2014
It suddenly began snowing heavily, so this guy stopped to put a white t-shirt over his gray long-sleeved shirt. Over that went a gray t-shirt. Followed by a white hooded jacket. Next came a dark jacket. Finally, he put a couple of socks over his hands and then went on about his business.

March 13, 2014
That`s one complicated instrument. Hey, if you`re not going to eat that brownie, toss it up here. Behind the pink door is a photography studio. And everyone said their relationship would never work. Public engineering.

March 14, 2014
Some communities have public art. In the Oregon District, we have public furniture. Great moments in evolution: plastic bag walks upright. Portrait in blue. Success in life depends upon knowing your boundaries. An undertaker in the sky, waiting for death to come.

March 15, 2014
Color guard is gymnastics. Color guard is dance. Color guard is drama. Color guard is costume. Color guard is sparkle.

March 16, 2014
Did you know that I`m an inferior decorator? For your safety, please wear goggles at all times. Pizza and caffeine: must be something creative going on. More coffee. Be careful where you point those things. I should`ve brought marshmallows.

March 17, 2014
Today this evil tree ripped the top off of a moving van, and perhaps cost the driver his job. He said he hoped the green color would wash out in a day -- otherwise he`ll have to shave it off. Crowds of people flocked to the Catholic church today -- because there is an Irish pub across the street. Dayton`s finest keeps the revelry under control. This goes on for three days. Don`t you people have jobs?

March 18, 2014
While I watched this hawk, I heard another one nearby. There may be little baby hawks in the neighborhood soon. I`d keep my eye on that hawk if I were you. This is a photo of Jimi Hendrix (see August 17, 2012). What`s black and white and red all over? Better not park under that.

March 19, 2014
Or not. March showers bring March puddles. March comes in like a lion. March madness. Merica.

March 20, 2014
After I go home, my computer stays and works overtime. It`s reassuring to know that my neighborhood has been claimed by a gang. Someone`s watching out for us. Dinner (ideal). Dinner (real). Twice tonight I reached into the trash to make a photo.

March 21, 2014
I think his name is Gabriel. Turn left -- quickly. That`s strange, there aren`t any waterfowl on the river . . . [WHOOSH past my left ear] He was arguing with someone only he could see. The price of peace.

March 22, 2014
It was a church. Now it`s a multi-unit condominium. It was a church. Now it`s a single-family residence. It was a church. Now it`s an indoor rock climbing center. It was a church. Now it`s a pile of stones. It was a pool hall. Now it`s a single-family residence. (Sorry, I ran out of churches in the neighborhood).

March 23, 2014
Open the pod bay doors, Hal. Where astronauts go flying. Where astronauts perform their work. Where astronauts read magazines. Don`t exaggerate. Loosely Affiliated States is more like it.

March 24, 2014
I would`ve walked past if it hadn`t been singing so loudly. Resurrection. Shapes and lines and colors. That`s all I need. Quittin` time. I would`ve walked past if it hadn`t been singing so loudly.

March 25, 2014
I`m looking for a way out. There`s snow in them thar clouds. Don`t worry, I won`t forget to include a bird picture today. I always feel like somebody`s watching me. ROCKWELL You have served me well. Take thy rest.

March 26, 2014
Why I arrive a half hour BEFORE the show. Confirmed: Eve was a blonde (see March 9 above). All the fountains of the great deep were broken up, the windows of heaven were opened, and the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights. GENESIS 7:11-12 After she died as Eve, she came back in the second act as a member of the chorus (see October 16, 2013). The director looks noncommittal. I was overwhelmed.

March 27, 2014
Tea time. If it`s spring, why am I wearing my winter coat? If it`s spring, why are people passing football in the street? Don`t break the yolk! Shattered dreams.

March 28, 2014
The female cardinal is plain, but has a great personality. The male cardinal is good looking and he knows it. This was my first batch of daffodils of the season, but I found several more later as I walked outside this evening. Life is a blank canvas waiting for you to make your mark. Why, why, why do strangers ask me to take their picture?

March 29, 2014
At the last moment, I noticed these instructions and put down the hacksaw. People who are very familiar with this Web page will look at today`s pictures and think, `It must be cold and raining.` Light it up! CAUTION: Hot surface. And to top it off, some cadmium yellow acrylic paint.

March 30, 2014
This is Mozart, 1960s style. Flower child. Peace, man! My friend successfully sang one of the most difficult arias in the operatic repertoire -- while dressed like Twiggy. Opera a-go-go.

March 31, 2014
Is the wardrobe Eastern Orthodox, or just thrift shop? Still waiting for tulips, but these will do for now. New York photographer Helen Levitt was known for her pictures of kids, though she admitted she didn`t like them. In a similar way, I take lots of pictures of cats. Another sign of spring. Just passing through.
