This, in case anyone cares, is illegal. Someone should be deported back to Canada. Study space is hard to find during finals week. I certainly hope so. Looking back as lovers go walking past - all of my life - wondering how they met and what makes it last. STEPHEN BISHOP

Another dumb cardinal fighting with itself in a mirror (see February 18, 2005). How did he even notice the reflection? How did I even notice him? Waterfowl gone dry. Drawing studio - empty. Painting studio - empty. You`re breaking up! You`re breaking up!

May 3, 2008
Clean energy or modern art? Homage to Eadweard Muybridge. `How much longer will your mother be staying with us?!` Lost sole. `The record shows - I took the blows - and did it MYYYY WAAAAAYYYYY!`

May 4, 2008
I take a lot of pictures of birds, don`t I? It`s a dogwood - I can tell by the bark. Caution in the wind. Underneath the tulips. Balcony patriotism.

Here`s how most people got to work today. But I got to work on foot. That`s my destination off in the distance. It took me a half hour to walk to work, but I went slowly and took lots of pictures. I was surprised at the squalid neighborhoods that I passed through. Can`t decide which hat to buy.

May 6, 2008
Spring morning. `This is my leaf. Get your own.` Aspire to greater heights. My daily bird pic. There`s noplace he`d rather bee.

May 7, 2008
An unexpected start to my day. Balloons in UD colors. I was at a technology workshop today that was very enlightening. Reminds me of another after-workshop scene from May 25, 2007. I`d like you to take a brief survey.

Photographic memory. There`s only one thing wrong with this Chex Mix: there`s no Chex. High above the Gothic Cloister at the Dayton Art Institute. A kindred spirit. After the Art Institute, I went to the Dayton Visual Arts Center.

He works while I eat lunch. There are pink tree blossoms littered everywhere. Red satin cloth on the altar. Above the altar. It`s easier to fly a 747 than play a pipe organ.

May 10, 2008
I want to fly like a duck to the sea. Fly like a duck, let my spirit carry me. Waiting for a message in a bottle. I love my new house, but hate mowing the lawn. The road to wellness. A very large pulley system.

May 11, 2008
I used to sing with this choir, but now I`m on the outside looking in. It rained today. And then it rained. After that, it rained. They don`t mind the rain. Not as successful as yesterday`s flying duck photo. I listened to this CD, but it didn`t stop the rain.

Summer is the time for construction/destruction projects. Do not put your fingers through the bars of the cage. There he is again! I wear my heart on my tree. How did they get that thing inside the office?

May 13, 2008
What the chipmunk saw. Type B personality. One of those `This is why I take pictures every day` moments. Wilbur, Orville and Katherine Wright were all supposed to live here, but Wilbur never made it. Have you read my column today?

May 14, 2008
Light at the end of the hallway. The campus tour lasts about an hour, and the tour guide spends the entire time walking backwards. It was another rainy day, so I took pictures without going outside. Though it looks large and frightening, this bird is no danger to you -- as long as you`re still moving. I told you I needed to get new glasses.

The mayor of Dayton, Rhine McLin. As happy as a spring day. Iron Man. Words to live by. The refrigerator hidden camera keeps people from having too many late-night snacks.

May 16, 2008
Twins rarely see eye to eye. Keeping the beat. Ready for `American Idol.` Just another Friday night in the Oregon District. There`s no `trick` to eating fire. It just hurts.

May 17, 2008
The British don`t really know how to make a car, but it sounds so cool when they say `Jag-you-wahre.` It must be another British car show (see May 19, 2007). Putting his liberal arts degree to good use. There`s something creepy about people who observe quietly and take pictures. Hey -- wait a minute . . . `WHOO-HOO! Mom said I can start wearing makeup!!`

May 18, 2008
A typical Sunday scene. Atypical Sunday scene. A choir with hundreds of children is singing . . . . . . but this mom cares about just one of them. I am now officially old: I`m buying music that I used to listen to in my college years.

Day 1. Astronomers were shocked to discover that stars are covered with cobwebs. `Far Out,` a sculpture by J. Seward Johnson. Nearly hurt myself shooting this one. Someone recently asked how long I plan to take five photos a day. As proven by this picture, I have no plan.

May 20, 2008
Day 2. Eight point play. And Samson said, `Let me die with the Philistines.` And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell. JUDGES 16:30 It was easier than packing them when moving out of the dorm. Up you go!

May 21, 2008
Day 3. This is one of those very rare he`s-not-in-Dayton photos. What city is it? Looks a little like London. What happens to the coins you toss into a fountain. Since no photography is allowed during the play, the trick is to get invited to dress rehearsal.

May 22, 2008
Day 4 -- evidently a day off. To save about six ounces of gasoline, today I walked to work (but lost my shadow in a terrible accident). Someone once said, `Flowers are like fireworks in slow motion.` Oh yeah, that was me. Roofing project or modern art? `The scrolls said the treasure would be right here!`

May 23, 2008
Another day off -- meanwhile other parking lots are overflowing while this one`s supposedly being resurfaced. I have no desire to climb any corporate ladders. Jewelry or shackle? The mysterious glow of aluminum foil. What time was that last picture taken?

May 24, 2008
In the garden. In the city. The boy who fell to earth. The dog who fell to earth. Parental guidance.

May 25, 2008
Today I begin my fifth year of taking five photos per day. Signs in the sky. Historical restoration in progress. Catch the wave. Live long and pollenate, endangered honeybee.

May 26, 2008
Nest building season. Hold on tight to what you love. Early bloomer. Swamp thing. Moments later, I sneezed.

May 27, 2008
After several days rest, the crew began working again. A closeup of the parking lot renovation. Beware the black flag. The sun never came out today. The only thing I like about rain is when it stops.

May 28, 2008
A propos of nothing, it was five years ago today that I watched television for the last time. The Gingham States of America. When I can haul myself out of bed at 6:15am, then I have time to roam the neighborhood before work. This picture says `Oregon Historic District` just as plainly as the last one did. Fortunately I noticed it in time, or else it would have leapt upon me with thrashing claws.

May 29, 2008
Almost finished! While renovations occur all over campus, the house they call Slanty remains defiantly oblique (see May 8, 2006). A sign of the times. I was never so narcissistic before I got a camera. I walked to work again today, but didn`t take a highway bridge shot since someone was already planted there.

May 30, 2008
Now we just need a second and third level just like this. Wow, what a powerful zoom lens my camera has. Though the parking lot project is finished, work continues uninterrupted elsewhere on campus. Hey guys, I said WORK CONTINUES UNINTERRUPTED! I probably shouldn`t be up here, but the door was open. How Santa spends the off-season.

May 31, 2008
Can`t stand them myself, but they look good in photos. Hang in there. You`ve seen her singing on these Web pages before, but never again. Eventually they all grow up and move away. Why one shouldn`t have a vocal recital near a window in the Oregon District. The guy stood there a while, then staggered inside, drink in hand, and sat down. A painter`s toolbox.
