March 1, 2006
Looks like vines growing on an elephant`s leg. A couple laps around the pond. Early arrivals. The photo lab is bubbling with excitement. Photography isn`t about cameras and lenses and pictures hanging on a wall -- it`s about seeing.

March 2, 2006
Suspend your disbelief. Here`s another fine mesh. Daylight looks like this because the sun is round. I bought the really BIG erector set. There are always so many beautiful things at Cox Arboretum.

March 3, 2006
Any meal with iced tea AND macaroni and cheese is a good meal. `What do you mean you KIND OF wrecked the car?` The first sign of spring. Bird flew. A man in transition.

March 4, 2006
Does this LOOK like Canada? The birds were excited to be out this weekend. But don`t forget to have fun! There`s a flag like this on the moon too. `I do solemnly swear . . . `

March 5, 2006
Linen landscape. The six million dollar woman. Please make it stop. Two roads diverged in a yellow wood. ROBERT FROST I`ve finally gone around the bend.

March 6, 2006
When we want to cook something REALLY fast, we put it in the small oven, and then put THAT into the big one. I`m good at faking different styles of handwriting. And then they climb up the pole and juggle. Students scrupulously adhere to the library`s no food or drink policy. Not quite spooky . . . more like goofy.

March 7, 2006
Self-proclaimed ping pong champion. During spring break, offices cut back to a skeleton staff. Rooftops of UD. `I was just here five minutes!` Computers, movies, TV . . . books are still where it`s at.

March 8, 2006
These stickers indicate this stuff is useless and is going to be discarded. Hey -- wait! What`s this on my back? Engine, view 1. Engine, view 2. Adam Alanzo couldn`t make it, so I came instead. Nearly two years old and my camera is in great shape, but my camera bag has lost its zip.

March 9, 2006
That reminds me: time to sharpen the lawnmower blades. `Ta daaa!` We kin hyeah de angels sing When de music o` dat banjo Sets my cabin all er-ring. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR It`s easy when ya know how. Rhythm in Tubes.

March 10, 2006
My photos hang in only the finest offices. Flowers are like fireworks in slow motion. An ordinary ceiling light made extraordinary. By observing subtle clues (such as the position of the sun) astute viewers can estimate when each photo was taken. Gotta get me one-a them.

March 11, 2006
Joseph`s foot. Somebody else`s foot. All these paintings were displayed in the same small gallery. Evidently the gallery features paintings from an era when nobody wore shoes. I`m reminded of the skit `Great Square Inches of Art.`

March 12, 2006
`I hope they remember to buy Snausages.` `Sissy`s getting baptized.` Light de candle, evy`ting`s all right. Balcony window. Oriel window.

March 13, 2006
Musta been a bit humid in the library this weekend. My pictures are warped (but not as bad as August 31, 2005). Daff-- Daffo-- [to be continued]. Animals and people alike fear my intimidating presence. The ice-skating rink has been removed, to be replaced by . . . beach volleyball? Awaiting the buzzing pollenators.

March 14, 2006
When real men play jacks. A rows is a rows is a rows. Skilled handiwork of a bygone era. A precarious perch on a windy day. Did I mention today was windy?

March 15, 2006
Tennis court maintenance resembles minimalist sculpture. The ballot was confusing, so I think I accidentally voted for Sandusky. Sunlight traveled 92,999,999.999 miles before being defeated by a handrail. On the alert for . . . ? Evidently, this tree ceased to exist for several years.

March 16, 2006
Why would anyone want TWO cats? Or even one? Whole grain. Medieval music manuscript -- picked up for five bucks at a garage sale. A wall with tile. A wall with profile.

March 17, 2006
The Dublin Pub saw a record number of parishoners attend St. Patrick`s Day services. A double failure of good intentions. Law never made men a whit more just. HENRY DAVID THOREAU Dayton? Who wants to go to Dayton? The wearin` o` the green.

March 18, 2006
Spring is in a hurry. Knock, knock! Who`s there? Good news! We haven`t killed the planet yet. Ever wonder how Yellow Springs got its name? Bank deposits.

March 19, 2006
This spring thaw took place in my living room. Pincushion protea, a tropical flower native to Hawaii. I photographed the flower in my lavish studio. A shot like this required lots of patience, ingenuity . . . . . . and the sacrifice of a faithful old marker.

March 20, 2006
Where`s Smokey the Bear when you need him? One of the few picture-taking occasions where I was actually scared. My camera -- made of metal, glass and plastic -- now smells like smoke. Adam before the camera: `Prairie burn? So what?` Adam after the camera: `Prairie burn? WHAT TIME?` In addition to being concerned about focus and composition, I also had to pay attention to wind direction.

March 21, 2006
So much for spring. It was warmer in Egypt. Fall, winter, spring . . . what season is it? Snow, shrub, more snow. A guy outside taking pictures of the snow. What`s HIS problem?

March 22, 2006
Okay, this time spring is really here. I had only a couple minutes, so I stopped to get $5 of gas. Amazingly, I was able to put in $10 in a couple minutes. It says a lot about you . . . . . . if you viewed the veggie picture first or the cookie picture. In ten years, people will see this picture and say, `Look at those huge computers they`re using.` No -- in five years.

March 23, 2006
Every year it`s the same: with the spring thaw, last season`s kazoos are revealed. A few mushroom photos hanging in a small gallery show. Has anyone seen my glasses? Organization. Teardrop collector.

March 24, 2006
My trendy new sunglasses, courtesy of the eye doctor. My ears helped me get this shot, since I couldn`t see through the viewfinder (again courtesy of the eye doctor). Where I spend most of my day. A rare sighting of the silken snow butterfly. I admit nothing.

March 25, 2006
`ROW!! So my mom calls and ROW!! she`s like ``I`m tired of picking up ROW!! after you all the time.`` ROW!!` Oar blades. Who do you have to know to get to take pictures from a boat? There weren`t many spectators at the rowing competition. The show`s over.

March 26, 2006
`And why take ye thought for raiment?` `Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow;` `they toil not, neither do they spin:` `And yet I say unto you,` `That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.` MATTHEW 6:28, 29

March 27, 2006
Not a man-eating lion, but a robin eating berry. The same blooming shoe tree seen on March 10, 2005. No matter how you stack it: PROCRASTINATION. Piecing together a century-old map with Post-It notes. Because I want to learn about lighting (and I want to overwork myself) I`m starting another photography class.

March 28, 2006
The stuff that`s good for you takes the longest to prepare. A nice coworker brought me a pizza from her trip to Chicago. A loss for words. `Split light.` `Loop light.`

March 29, 2006
The black paint is old, the red is new. You`d think the red paint person might`ve learned from the other`s mistakes. I could learn so much in the library staff lounge. The weekly ritual of my black and white photo class. Like, dude! Despite shooting pictures constantly, this is the first photo I`ve taken in a long time.

March 30, 2006
I have a class assignment to shoot things that are a certain color. Can you guess what color? The sign says `Sewer expert on board.` Pre-perfect. A lost cause.

March 31, 2006
The world is full of mysteries. `Roosh-uh.` `Vur-sayulz.` Very Inflated Price. I can`t have Giordano`s pizza every night.
