In one year and out the other (see December 30, 2014). And thereby hangs a tail. What I missed last night. Just say no to winter. Nothing to do, nothing to eat, nowhere to go.

In 1890, 100 starlings were released in Central Park. Now there are 200 million making a mess of North America. Follow the yellow-striped road. Lights on for safety. Strangely drawn to yellow today, a bright and sunny color. Like starlings, automobiles are also an invasive species.

On frozen pond. Frozen in time. In the grotto. Thanks for inventing the airplane and revolutionizing the world. Here`s 46 cents. Lifespan is relative.

January 4, 2016
Birds of a feather flock together. Birds of a feather flock together. Dayton is a very bicycle-friendly city. Winter belatedly kicked in today. Some twigs have washed up on the riverbank lately.

Sometimes your body notifies you that it needs orange-carrot juice. The eternal battle between light and dark. I intended to take one more picture of shadows today, but a suspicious security guard spoiled that plan. Standing across the street from the courthouse, I found a place where I can buy a shirt that says OUT ON BOND. Last shadow shot of the day.

It all started with one twig. Who`s going to clean this up? Waterfowl 1. Waterfowl 2. Waterfowl 3 and 4. New camera equipment to play with.

January 7, 2016
John, Paul, George and Ringo. Evidently it`s a work in progress. Car hive. A tempting snack. Another great gift (see December 27, 2015).

January 8, 2016
It would be insulting for me to refuse an offer of cake. Long live compact discs! Soon I can leave work and feel bad at home. Dayton, Ohio, in a snow globe. This once-familiar landscape is now strange to me.

January 9, 2016
In the bleak midwinter. Nature`s way of saying NO TRESPASSING. Down among the blades of grass. A frozen wasteland. Picturesque decay.

January 10, 2016
There are plenty of tables available on the patio. BIG NEWS: It`s snowing. Time to take down the Christmas tree, don`t you think? The snow was wet and heavy and stuck to everything. A mother in the lobby to her kids: `Luke Skywalker is Han Solo`s friend. And so is Chewbacca, that big hairy one.`

January 11, 2016
Don`t stick your tongue on that. SHUT THE DOOR! Second and Ludlow. No sledding. Winter is finally here. Just grin and bear it.

January 12, 2016
I got lost in the woods during the snowstorm. In the bleak midwinter. Snowball to the face! Nice shot, Orville. Stairway to oblivion. Today`s theme: stuff with snow on it.

January 13, 2016
Today I spotted a tiny lion in downtown Dayton. It`ll be back with a vengeance in the spring. These aren`t the SAME icicles as January 11 above. She needs to get a restraining order. I hate snow, but am surviving so far.

January 14, 2016
Physics lesson: when water freezes, the ice rises. If it didn`t, the oceans would freeze and we`d all be dead. Only 65 days until spring. `Hey, take our picture!` `Isaiah, why did you ask him that?` Urban renewal. The Red Crane of Courage by Stephen Badge.

Chopin was taller, but Bach had better hair. Call the dentist. YOU ARE HERE. I want both of them to flash. Canon: there is no substitute.

January 16, 2016
The Keigo Hirakawa Trio at View 162. Pianist Keigo Hirakawa. Bassist Eddie Brookshire. Drummer Fenton Sparks. Break time.

January 17, 2016
Maisy is aloof. Jellybean is friendly. JB also has a regal side. I should have my own cooking show. The laugh of the day came when I saw how much a certain performing arts organization wants me to donate to them.

January 18, 2016
Bright and sunny, but twelve degrees. If it was me, I`d put on a shirt. `Sorry, this seat`s taken.` Aloofness. If it was me, I`d put on some pants.

January 19, 2016
The physics demonstration has been modified (see January 14 above). The ice won`t melt soon, since the windows in this parking garage are wide open. Are you? Has anybody seen Dayton?. Tee time.

January 20, 2016
Some gloves might be a good idea. A silent swirl of snow. Don`t stick your tongue on that. Taking a lot of meaningless pictures prepares me for the time when an important picture comes along. This ain`t it. Eastbound.

January 21, 2016
If you`re in `Mary Poppins,` press this button. If you`re in `Glass Menagerie,` push here. I work in an arts building. Bright sun and melting snow put a smile on my face. Do you know what President Truman`s middle name was? Where the sun don`t shine. There`s plenty of sun over here.

January 22, 2016
Time to try my new gizmo (see January 6 and 15 above). Everything`s working fine. Now I just need some people. When the people arrived, the equipment stopped working. I eventually got the flash to fire on command. I`d say today`s photo shoot was a success!

January 23, 2016
There was a lot of high-flying talent on the stage tonight. There was even a miniature color guard show. The Rubik`s Cube boy was amazing and hilarious. These two young musicians are ready for the big time. Who won? Well, I guess you should`ve been there.

January 24, 2016
Birds and bottles today. That`s about the best I could do. Male cardinal. In a hurry. Female cardinal. Taking her time. Another bird in a hurry, but this time I was ready. I photographed an out of birdie experience.

The Dayton Fire Department deserves a bit more money in the vehicle maintenance budget. The water is very cold. You don`t have to be in the water. Why are you going into the water? Thanks, Roto-Rooter (see January 6 above). From my cold, dead hands! Ready to take pictures of color guard this spring!

As pure as the driven snow. From fairest creatures we desire increase, that thereby beauty`s rose might never die. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE Just a couple of old coots from Canada. Deteriorating downtown Dayton driftwood. Decadent downtown Dayton decay.

January 28, 2016
Some people are slow to take down their Christmas decorations. It was bright and sunny, but very windy and bitterly cold. Did I mention it was windy? Who needs a drone? A tall parking garage will do. Yet another plan was put into motion today to renovate and reopen the historic Arcade in downtown Dayton.

January 29, 2016
Allan Alonso? Nice try. I was high up on a bridge had a close encounter. It was such a warm, sunny day I didn`t want to go inside. Hey, that looks like Allan Alonso. My breath on a winter day.

January 30, 2016
On the roof it`s peaceful as can be, and there the world below can`t bother me. GERRY GOFFIN She needs to get a restraining order (see January 13 above). Trying to figure out the taste of quinoa. Remember books? `No birds today,` I thought as I went outside.

January 31, 2016
Despite the recent warm temperatures, winter lingers. Immediate occupancy. Among the prairie grass. The sun never came out today. One of my faithful photography workshop participants was also outside taking pictures today. I was so proud of her!
