What this picture needs is a girl in a colorful dress leaning out of that doorway. Keeping watch over downtown Dayton. This dance step is way too complicated. Sunset in the city. I really HATE paper jams!

Guys use pads and helmets when they play football. Wimps. Oranges have lots of vitamin C, plus they help you get better acquainted. Mummy on the run. The lower teammate REALLY hoped the upper teammate caught the water balloon. The potato dance -- with a spectator.

Undecided. A leaf from Dayton carried to a parking lot in Kettering. Waiting for a group of graduates to arrive . . . Some people eat because they enjoy food. I eat because it`s the easiest way to stay alive. I went to the library to check out a book, and ended up buying a couple of used books for $4. It was a bargain.

I dare you to stick your hand in there and count to ten. Just a fence. Curved shadows of straight lines. Not one of my better picture-taking days, I will admit. But at least I kept my streak alive: 3,419 days of photos.

MOVE IN SPECIAL: First month`s rent free! Despite the rain, I led a successful photo workshop today. For me, nature photography happens at a small scale. After the rain, there are all sorts of pictures waiting. It`s a bear`s head fungus, and yes you can eat it.

Somebody ran out of paint -- or motivation (see September 24, 2013). Both flowers and butterflies are becoming rare. I`d love to have a big old house like that. No I wouldn`t. It was DRINKING out of that puddle. Cryptosporidiosis killed the cat Let`s go fishing!

October 7, 2013
Belatedly grateful for the station wagon I rode around in. Quest for Tire. There are some new faces in my neighborhood. Bright colors are nature`s way of giving warning. Here it is saying, `WINTER IS COMING! GET AWAY!` Nothing for you to eat here. I think it just climbed up that tree to run away from me.

October 8, 2013
The vegan cardinal. Cycle silhouette. I sometimes find it hard to stay awake at work. A nice splash of color on this black car. Wait -- in MY neighborhood? This is a first.

October 9, 2013
Pick up lines. Someone parked in my space! Welcome. Stumbling around sluggishly, as if exhausted by summer. Love the square modules, curved brick wall and blue sky. Hate the shadow of a wire.

October 10, 2013
See, downtown Dayton IS a dangerous place after all. Awesome awning. Sealed for freshness. Thank you for staying green. Shingle sunset.

October 11, 2013
A new Stonehenge has taken shape downtown. `Is that the No. 12 bus? Wait, wait, wait!` If I thought hard, I might remember why the sky is blue. Topsy turvy world. The Old Man and the Sea.

October 12, 2013
My second homecoming in a week. An iconic teenage ritual. The sparkly shoes come off immediately after arrival. Why I nearly went deaf this evening. High school royalty.

What bird? You`re not the only one who likes roses. You`re not the only one who likes roses. The autumn winds blow chilly and cold. A love once new has now grown old. PAUL SIMON `My birdseed! MINE!`

October 14, 2013
I`m that guy who takes way too many pictures of birds. Light it up! Desperate for attention. Daniel is traveling tonight on a plane. ELTON JOHN I warned him to stop parking in my space.

October 15, 2013
What the marching band is wearing this season. Warming up in the band room. Competing interests in the concert hall. Simon says. I`m not that annoying, am I?

October 16, 2013
High above -- very high above -- the gym floor. People making music are always interesting photo subjects, even if two glass doors are between us. Even before the play rehearsal began, I could tell that the show had a small cast. Last spring`s dancing plate is a passionate German flight attendant this fall (see April 24, 2013). But the cynical French maid got the most laughs.

October 17, 2013
They start up here . . . . . . and then fall on cars, hit the roof loudly, or create a hazard on the ground. They drive me nuts! Need I tell you that it`s raining today? I`m slowly working through these massive biographies of two of my favorite writers. Oh, and a book about zombies. Health care reform, spelled out in a three-page letter.

Autumn in the city. With the sun in my eyes, I saw nothing when I took this. Make honey while the sun shines. Dysfunctional family. And thereby hangs a tale. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (see October 13, 2008).

October 19, 2013
I got dressed up to take photos at an event tonight. When I got there I was told, `Sorry, we don`t need you.` So now I`m wearing a tie, taking a picture of leaves in a puddle. This is more interesting than a fundraising dinner anyway. Plus I ran into an acquaintance in his new 1962 Impala. Now I`m wearing a tie, kneeling on the sidewalk and using a very sophisticated camera and flash to shoot a leaf. Just another Saturday night for the professional photographer. Don`t like `em, but they look good in photos.

October 20, 2013
I`ll bet my basement is creepier than yours. I`ll bet my basement is dirtier than yours. My neighborhood gets a little weird at this time of year (see October 7 above). Open Sundays. What the kids call a selfie.

October 21, 2013
I decided not to take them, since they didn`t go with the coffee table I found alongside the highway. I used to take pictures in the morning all the time, but now in my old age I`ve mostly switched to afternoons. By January, you`ll be hungry enough to eat those berries. My new ride. What do you think? Elopement?

October 22, 2013
Autumn, such as it is. In fifth grade, I waited impatiently for Kettering 12 to take me home. I have no idea what my class gave to our high school. Maybe it went down with the building (see April 24, 2012). Fallen meteorite may reveal signs of extra-terrestrial life, leading scientists speculate. Vanilla swirl. What, you wanted strawberry?

October 23, 2013
Can you see the tree? At about this time, it started to hail. Wut? Oh. The Carroll High School boys` cross country team ran by, 6.3 miles from Carroll High School.

October 24, 2013
The Eddie Brookshire Quintet -- Jack. The Eddie Brookshire Quintet -- Fenton. The Eddie Brookshire Quintet -- Gary. The Eddie Brookshire Quintet -- Keigo. The Eddie Brookshire Quintet -- Eddie.

This show sold out quickly, and I couldn`t get a ticket. But then fortunately a second performance was added. I hurried to get my five dollar ticket. I sat in a row of this dancer`s family, friends and fans. It was a very entertaining night! Definitely worth five bucks.

October 26, 2013
The Amish don`t like photos, but I don`t think they noticed. Death becomes her. I don`t think spectators are supposed to laugh, are they? He and I had on the same costume: Just a Regular Guy. Last year`s Catwoman is this year`s Shooting Star (see October 27, 2012 -- and you`ll see how similar last year`s photos and even the captions are to this year.).

October 27, 2013
The trees are especially colorful at this time of year. Lite Brite making things with light. What a sight, making things with Lite Brite. 1970s TOY COMMERCIAL The hibiscus that never was. I could hear a cricket -- and some other kind of creature -- moving around in there. Light and fragile, and feathered sky blue, so thin and graceful the sun shines through, she flies so high up in the sky, way out of reach of human eye.

October 28, 2013
Watch your step, Mr. Squirrel. Gutter politics. I thought I smelled something. Art takes time. Some of the people who stand on the sidewalk playing music might be better off staying home to practice.

October 29, 2013
If a flower turned into a zombie. A flame of orange climbing up the wall. Dial 9-1-1. Some seeds fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth. MATTHEW 13:5 Surely you don`t mean MY car! There`s no waiting at Register 4.

October 30, 2013
Blue dominated Red all night long. Ice pack, please! `Look at that girl. She`s not wearing a ribbon in her hair!` `They don`t act like this at school,` said a nearby teacher. `Normally they`re very . . . dainty.` One team goes on. The other goes home.

October 31, 2013
I took a picture of the wind. Trick-or-treating in the Oregon District is like looking for filet mignon at McDonald`s. Me, flat on my back on the living room floor, shooting through the window at the overhanging roof. The instrument panel of a passing car. Part of it glowed steadily while another flashed six times in 1/25th second. Dessert.
