Sometimes it`s good to be square. Optical delusion. Who`s going to clean this up? What a sponge and a little creativity can produce. The place has been ribbonized.

The `mascot` of the Oregon District. Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right. Here I am, stuck in the middle with you. GERRY RAFFERTY This high school freshman has more musical talent than many popular singers that you hear on the radio. Although it was uncomfortable sitting on a gym floor for three hours, I`ll forget the pain and remember the pictures. I enjoyed the singing competition and was glad I wasn`t one of the judges who had to pick a winner.

Keeping watch over Canal Street. The lower the temperature, the lower my photographic quality. The ironic thing is that they migrate to Ohio to be warm. Birds are our friends. Stranded between unwalkable patches of ice, I shot this.

A good idea . . . . . . and a little manual labor . . . . . . produce an interesting result. My fellow employees work hard and I take pictures of it. Can I last another 45 days until spring? It`ll be close.

One last check to make sure the iPod is running . . . . . . and then it`s time to work. My camera took one photo every sixty seconds. At this point, it must have been chilly. Great job, Christine!

Here`s the finished product from yesterday`s painting. My former friend. Now the camera is my friend. I purchased this on May 25, 2004, and it changed my life. Though it was advanced then, it is quaintly obsolete now. Another freshly decorated wall. Gray is big this year. A long time ago, someone accidentally spilled ginger ale on some ice cream and a new confection was born.

Blowin` smoke. A textbook Adam Alonzo photo. If there was a textbook. Not all of my photos utilize blur. Someone on the sidewalk asked, `Hey buddy, what time does the sun set?` A guy with a camera ought to know. Hanging around Fifth Street.

Friday night finger roll. Four free throws in the final minutes put the game on ice. When you`re young and energetic, gravity is irrelevant. I could probably make lots of money off of moms and dads who don`t know how to take good pictures of their kids. Be of good cheer.

This gigantic new high school is artistically decorated. However, all I care about is that the gym has good lights. Listening to music or motivational recordings? Before they play ball, they play around. This six foot two junior spends a lot of time alone up here. I did this accidentally the first time, then I began having fun.

Time to do laundry. Taken while standing in my kitchen using The Big Lens. It was unusually warm today, but nothing like spring. The best of many photos I took while cardinal stalking. Besides the cardinal, I got this . . . whatever it is.

February 11, 2013
I walked in to work and a fellow employee asked me, `Did you see the clouds this morning?` I said, `Yeah, I was just outside taking pictures of them.` She said, `I thought so.` Scenes from the hood. It`s spinning. Can you see it? Say you can. Park it here. The color guard world championships are more than two months away, but I`m ready to go right now.

February 12, 2013
Totally unnatural. Rusty and rustic. They`re starting to behave differently and sing new songs. The birds are just as eager for spring to arrive as we are. Normally the basketball players sign autographs for fans. It`s the final seconds of a close game, and the student section is more interested in tossing around a big ape.

What my neighborhood is built upon. I think I can jump over it if I just get a running start. I find pictures like this very appealing. Some people tense up when I take their picture. Today is texture day.

February 14, 2013
Are you flying back to Canada? Say you are. Just like LA is a note to follow SO, this photo is here simply to follow the one before it. Very pretty -- until it started to rain on me. I wonder if the seagulls of Dayton have ever seen the sea. Yes, yes, hurrah for you.

February 15, 2013
During a tense staff meeting this morning, the boss splintered this pencil in his hand. Not a good sign. She wears short skirts, I wear t-shirts. She`s cheer captain and I`m on the bleachers. TAYLOR SWIFT How is this possible? [See tomorrow`s picture below]. `Raspberry Beret`? What happened to `Hang On Sloopy`? And then when the game actually started, I left.

February 16, 2013
Offense gets all the attention. There aren`t enough pictures of defense. If a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her. I CORINTHIANS 11:15 Maybe this was how it was done [See yesterday`s photo above]. Another photo strangely similar to yesterday. I think it`s time for me to find some new things to take pictures of. Final home game, final year of school. Change is coming.

This is Presidents` Day weekend, which means volleyball. It`s unwise to turn your head even for a moment, or else you might get hit with a ball or tackled by a diving player. With a dozen games going at once, it`s difficult to know which referee`s whistle to listen to. Most of them are actually very nice, so don`t take it personally if they break your fingers. I was able to make a random mom from Cleveland very happy by giving her some good pictures of her daughter.

The international signal for `APARTMENT FOR RENT.` The sun on the left cast a shadow of the tree. It also reflected off a window on the right, which cast another shadow of the fence on top of the tree shadow. One of the great inventions of the twentieth century. Reminds me of the stitching on a baseball. They should put up a sign: `Birthplace of Adam Alonzo.`

February 19, 2013
Sounding good is important, but so is looking good. Charlie Brown`s teacher: `Mwah-mwaaah wahh.` We interrupt this band concert for some color guard. Flautist, flutist or flute player? From my perch high above the auditorium, I can see who is paying attention to the concert and who isn`t.

February 20, 2013
Geometry and physics lessons in the playground. I`m not sure I want to know what this is for. A brick wall, shot at an angle, becomes fabulous art. A weedy wall, shot at an angle, becomes fabulous art. An iron fence, shot at an angle, becomes -- wait, some lady is coming out of the house. She told me to `come back in the spring.` I think she meant it in a nice way.

February 21, 2013
Man triumphs over nature. Winter waterfall. Strange nesting place. This red light ends a three-hour drive. My back hurts. I got two new books on photography, a total of 846 pages. Better not try to call me for a while.

February 22, 2013
Simple pleasures: supreme pizza. Simple pleasures: Girl Scout cookies and milk. Thanks for the memories. These memory cards are dead. I`m not sure how, but the pictures I take go inside here. Railroad yard seen from the air.

February 23, 2013
Twenty-five days until spring. One alone is called a fent. Together they`re called a fence. Mood swings. Remember that movie `Marathon Man`? Sunset`s golden glow.

February 24, 2013
I`ve been looking at Camaros for two years (see March 27, 2011). I just can`t decide what color mine should be. They`ve come a long way in my lifetime. If this Corvette is 60 years old, why is it so expensive? As far as I`m concerned, there are only three automobiles. The other pictures you see here today are just for color. Wouldn`t want it if they tried to give it to me.

February 25, 2013
Don`t know the reason I stayed here all season. JIMMY BUFFETT Not one of the 2014 models from yesterday`s auto show. This picture would lack impact if it was a cloudy day. I thought I`d share my perspective with you today. It`s reassuring to know that some people, instead of just asking for loose change, still go to the trouble of telling an elaborate well-rehearsed story about running out of gas.

February 26, 2013
Last-minute rehearsal before the show. Not bad, considering I`m a half-mile away in the balcony. Who needs instruments? All you need are voices. All the leaves are brown, and the sky is gray. THE MAMAS AND THE PAPAS In musical terms, this performance is `con brio.`

February 27, 2013
It`s cold and wet outside. What to take pictures of inside ? I think I`ve already done enough flash-in-the-mirror shots. I guess I could continue my raspberry tea photo series. [See June 17, 2011; September 26, 2008; June 4, 2005; April 8, 2005; and December 12, 2004] I`ve also taken enough closeups-of-money photos . . . but hey, what if I put the flash UNDERNEATH? Nice! I can even revitalize my dull raspberry tea shot this way.

What did the groundhog say? If bananas can`t learn English, they should be deported. Neighborhood icon. In just a few weeks, there will be TULIPS peeking through. Dumpster divers are a common sight around here.
