Beauty springs from the remains of a demolished building. The streetlights in my neighborhood are old and probably very inefficient, and that`s part of their appeal. Buildings around here are actually made out of bricks, unlike new buildings that attach brick to a steel structure. Not everyone can wear sequins and stripes like I do. Uhhmmm, okaaaaay.

I think my car looks best during the fall. Stand tall, even if you`re little. Especially if you`re little. There are so many reasons why this troubles me. Sidewalk sentinel. Smell a rose, touch a rose, look at a rose, and everything just seems better.

She seems like the perfect little girl . . . She`s polite to grownups . . . She loves her mother . . . But she hides a deadly secret . . . `The Bad Seed` at Alter High School, October 5 - 7.

It was a rough night for the home team. They played hard but were outmatched. Guess what happened a moment later. What Michelangelo might`ve done had he seen volleyball. Late in the third game, the face of futility.

Must obey the rule of thirds. Since the street sign is sharper than the distant satellite dish, I must question what I thought I knew about sunlight. Maybe the new surgeon general`s warning goes too far Window shopping at the antique store. A neighbor`s porch decoration attracts hungry squirrels.

Pine: to yearn for deeply. A bright bouquet the size of my pinky. Best supporting stem. It was a dreary day, but my Speedlight took care of that. Last call for summer`s brilliance.

October 8, 2012
Cold, cold it was as I wandered through the garden park. Flowers on the north pole are always spinning around. Clarity is overrated. Dante`s inferno. This photo makes me think of a campaign speech.

Ever the nature lover, I have a chocolate turtle sanctuary. Laughing loudly and taking pictures with a Romney sign. Most people put curtains INSIDE their windows. At the street corner, the woman said to her dog, `Turn left.` Of course, the dog didn`t understand English, since it was a German shepherd. A former boxing arena is now an office building.

Another bright and frigid fall day. Taken while walking around the neighborhood at lunch. My coworkers are not as active during our lunch hour. Hanging around Wayne Avenue. Gimme da rock!

Admit it: human beings have ruined the landscape. `People of Earth, we come in peace.` Lutheran pigeons. This can be yours for $25. I`m a human sundial. It`s 6:06pm.

You put your left foot in, you put your left foot out. You put your left foot in, and you shake it all about. Pink rage. This split-second action is why they call it football. Wait, why isn`t it raining? Friday night lights.

Morning at the Aullwood prairie. It did, in fact, babble. I liked being outside, but today`s photos lack enthusiasm. If one of my workshop participants showed me this photo, I`d ask, `Okay, so what exactly is this a picture of?` I was standing next to another photographer, and we both pointed our cameras up toward the sky instinctively.

I made an admirable effort to take outdoor photos today, but nature had other plans for me. Autumn, as seen through my sunroof. People who follow too close. People who pull in front of ambulances. All I can say is that my life is pretty plain. I like watching the puddles gather rain. BLIND MELON

Say farewell to green things. The monarch of Hess Street. Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater was a pumpkin himself. I would`ve paid money to have someone stand in that window and cast a shadow on the wall outside. If I bring one light to a photo shoot, I think I`m doing well. This photographer has two lights, and an assistant.

The things some people celebrate. NASA`s new rover Curiosity explores the surface of Mars. Paul Laurence Dunbar was also established in 1872. Birds of a feather sit aloof from each other. Womannequin.

Every fair from fair sometime declines, by chance or Nature`s changing course untrimmed. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE Did you forget something in the park? A shot like this reveals how dirty my camera sensor is. This was a difficult shot . . . it was very windy. Thank you, Smith family.

Tonight I photographed yet another awards ceremony, where I met the former IBM programmer who invented the CTRL/ALT/DEL computer reboot sequence. I was told to arrive at 5:30, so of course I got there at 5:15. Then I was told that the people I needed to photograph would `probably be here by 6:00.` So . . . I shot this. Getting there early allowed me to set up for a group photo. But by 9:45 the group hadn`t gathered together, so I left. I won`t complain, since I got a nice dinner out of it. Scenes from an empty banquet room.

Friday night football in the cold rain. What could be better? The Patriots` cheerleaders are very patriotic. At this point, the thirteen people in the stadium went wild. The Eagles` cheerleaders are very egalitarian. Did I mention that it was raining AND cold?

October 20, 2012
Autumn shadows decorate the wall better than any picture. Airborne lifesavers. Election Central. On the sidewalk below is a century`s worth of green stains from the copper steeple. Why does everybody with a camera have to shoot in the Oregon District? Do I go to YOUR neighborhood?

October 21, 2012
Dunno if it scared crows, but it certainly creeped ME out. With a snout that large, a hog can smell very well -- but it doesn`t smell very good. I REALLY like to make sparkles. The last pumpkin on the farm, and I made good use of it. Winter coats are on sale at this time of year.

October 22, 2012
It was a lovely spring day. It was a lovely summer day. It was a lovely fall day. It was an ominous winter day. Autumn on Waltons` Mountain.

Wrigley, a gentle giant. Watercolor painting is lots of fun. Wrigley has seen it all before. Watercolor painting is a bit messy. Wrigley just takes it all in stride.

At 5:49pm in another city, I`d get run over. Not in Dayton! Urban canyon. They do not, in any way, shape or form, build `em like that anymore. A place in the sun. And then James Bond jumped out.

October 25, 2012
Why so glum, chum? I TOLD you to go to the dentist. This is reminiscent of yesterday`s building photo above. In the background: a sprinkler gone wild. Back seat driver.

October 26, 2012
To go out Door B or not Door B, that is the question. `Come back later when it`s not raining.` Old though it is, I`m grateful for my car. Dinnertime! Who wants mechanically separated chicken? I was a communications major. I know what I`m doing.

October 27, 2012
She asked me if I was a photographer for the newspaper. I told her, `No, I can`t make you famous.` Preparing for the Halloween costume contest. This guy came dressed as himself. So did I. The Grip of Death. Amid the crowd of thousands of people in Halloween costumes, I was looking for this particular Catwoman.

October 28, 2012
She`s always got some guy singing in her ear (see May 13 and May 26, 2012). In case it wasn`t obvious, this is Mozart`s `Magic Flute.` This is Gilbert and Sullivan`s `The Mikado.` Mozart`s `The Marriage of Figaro.` You`ve never heard of this opera, but you probably will.

October 29, 2012
It SHOULD be against the law, since it`s very dangerous. But they can`t keep me from taking pictures while driving. Once again, I arrived very early for a group photo shoot (see October 18 above). Just about everybody else took pictures too. Why is that car following me? Oh, it`s parked. A hurricane is coming, so I stock up on nachos.

October 30, 2012
Today was almost the day when pictures didn`t happen. I was ready to go to bed when I remembered: PHOTOS! So while these pictures are dull, at least they exist. I`ve taken pictures now for 3080 days in a row. Perhaps tomorrow I will actually take some GOOD photos.

October 31, 2012
Trick or treat! I shovel snow, but I don`t rake leaves. Not my problem. Flat cat. I suppose this is a better picture than yesterday`s tube of toothpaste. Holiday observances reveal our society`s need for intensive group therapy.
