Being a powerful member of the media elite, tonight I was invited to observe the recording session of a jazz group. Guitarist James Murrell is recording a new album called `Jazz Tent Revival.` Also on the record are Hal Melia (saxophone), Brian Cashwell (keyboard), John Toedtman (bass) and Erik Alyesworth (drums). It was very interesting to watch the recording process, and good to see local jazz musicians getting the opportunity. James` new CD should be released on December 1.

The recollecting of Bloom keeps making November difficult. EMILY DICKINSON I had time to take a walk around the neighborhood during my lunch break. Wait! Something just moved next to your hand. Maroon leaf marooned. Another fall wall (see October 30, 2011).

November 3, 2011
Pass the plate. Today was dish washing day. On a chilly and rainy night, I need about four tablespoons of creativity to come up with something to photograph. I`m not allowed to drive without my glasses. Tea for three.

That time of year thou mayst in me behold When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang Upon those boughs which shake against the cold, Bare ruin`d choirs, where late the sweet birds sang. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE Belated wanderer of the ways of spring, Lost in the chill of grim November rain, Would I could read the message that you bring And find in it the antidote for pain. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR I had the quotes from Shakespeare and Dickinson (see November 2 above) in my mind while I shot the photos. Dunbar`s line came to me later that night as I was reading. Splendor in the grass. Downtown Dayton, through a glass darkly (and wetly).

The over-the-head shot fools `em every time. Volleyball doesn`t have cheerleaders. They aren`t needed. The left-handed-lift fools `em every time. Why isn`t Sports Illustrated calling me right now? Sure, the red team lost 3 to 0 and was eliminated from the tournament, but they were more photogenic than the blue.

November 6, 2011
Another photo portraying a squirrel with special dietary requirements (see June 19, 2007 and June 16, 2009). Floating fall. Sign of the times. Mr. Woodman looks bored. Bored . . . get it? Though it`s called the Common Buckeye, this butterfly is found in most states in the U. S. and northern Mexico.

November 7, 2011
Documenting the change of seasons, one leaf at a time. A really skinny guy lives in that little corner apartment. Nature`s optimism. Did I misread the calendar? It is November, isn`t it? This one almost made me late for work, but it was worth it.

November 8, 2011
The city dweller drives past wondering, `November corn?` The town where I saw November corn. Antioch College is transitioning from the old into the new. Any cat annoys me. A heterochromatic cat frightens me. Oops! Shouldn`t have used a Brillo pad to clean the door.

November 9, 2011
Walk around the same part of town, see the same things. Walk around a different part of town, see different things. I`m repeating myself. I shot a door handle just yesterday. I`m repeating myself. I shovel snow in the winter since it`s potentially dangerous. I don`t cut grass in the summer, nor rake leaves in the fall. Grass and leaves don`t hurt anybody. Inadequate sidewalk drainage results in adequate photos. Impaled.

Living room, from the kitchen. Kitchen, from the living room. Living room, from the living room. Bedroom, with semi-made bed. Bathroom, where the mystery is revealed.

November 11, 2011
Everyone else had the same idea I did. I`ve been doing a lot of family portraits lately. Slipping silently across a silvery sea. Which way is up? Even today, the park was full of portrait photographers.

`STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, BABY!` The player on the other side of the net was in total awe. In volleyball, this is called a kill. Today, No. 17 had 17 kills. After a crowd wearing blue shirts sat in the background, my pictures became much more aesthetically pleasing. Volleyball players are easy to recognize by their bruises.

This photograph is successful at visualizing November. Maybe I shouldn`t even mention that it was sixty degrees. When this sculpture was first installed, there was no one buried beneath it. Now there are two names on the stone. The roots look very similiar, just pointed downward. You might want to put on something a little warmer. This brass plate from Tiffany & Co. cost $180 in 1907.

The sun was out briefly this morning, but was called away. WINK! If you don`t like books, you`re not welcome around here. I shot many single leaves today, and this one was the best. Go down bravely and without regret. Others will follow you.

November 15, 2011
Oh, so this is one of THOSE productions. This funny play combined Dr. Seuss with Shakespeare. I wasn`t sure what was going on, but I just kept shooting. This was no ordinary `Romeo and Juliet.` It ended happily! This was no ordinary balcony scene.

November 16, 2011
I know HOW the leaves change color, but I wonder about the WHY. Color in nature usually serves a purpose. In my neighborhood, our garbage cans are frequently raided by two-legged and four-legged scavengers. Along the curb. This is door handle month (see November 8 and 9 above). In the city of Dayton, you can rake your leaves to the curb . . . and they`ll still be there in the spring.

November 17, 2011
This is the extent of my nature photography today. Those are actually glass windows, and I could see through them into the building. It`s all about camera settings! I had to stand and wait for a cloud to go away. It was deceptively sunny and cold. Don`t you hate getting leaves all over the windshield?

November 18, 2011
Another day at the office, at Far Hills and Stroop Road. Another day at the office, at Far Hills and Dorothy Lane. The cat really wanted to jump. I really wanted it to jump. But the cat turned out to be a chicken and it didn`t jump. Don`t worry, it`s the low-fat kind. Fifth Street personality.

November 19, 2011
Yesterday`s eyesore is today`s collectible. Downtown Dayton is getting more colorful all the time. The leader of the band, Dave Greer . . . . . . and his Classic Jazz Stompers. Tacit tuba.

I take lots of amazing pictures every day. Then I remove the camera memory card and put it into the computer. Then I copy the digital photos onto the computer. Note that pictures from the last few days take up almost 1 gigabyte. Each picture is cropped and resized to fit this Web page. Most also undergo minor color and contrast adjustments. Next I type a brilliant caption into a complicated Javascript routine which I wrote years ago when I was a lot smarter. Notice that this caption and photo are for Day 2,733. Finally, I upload the photos and Javascript file onto my Web site for your personal enlightenment and amusement.

OPEN A package I ordered was delivered today to my porch. Here`s where the cardboard box sat in the rain all day. This same neighbor had a body buried in the front yard (see October 18, 2011). Outside the Tumbleweed Connection. ATM Alonzo.

November 22, 2011
The lights are on in Dayton, and it`s not yet 6:00pm. Bright sun helps make these, um, colors, more vivid. Low shadows at 12:27pm give me an instinctive chill. Street Scene No. 4,823. No leaves left.

November 23, 2011
Lots of leaves left. It`s not yet winter, but I can see it from here. Photographs by Adam Alonzo can be found in only the finest homes (see May 14, 2011, and March 24, 2008). Today I discovered that I have a new relative. Wanna punch?

November 24, 2011
Thanksgiving aftermath. You know Dasher and Dancer, Comet and Cupid. But do you recall Jose and Raul? Round and round she goes. They`re smiling because their house is paid for. You can go a long way on only two horsepower.

November 25, 2011
Modern memory making. MOVE IN SPECIAL!! IMMEDIATE OCCUPANCY!! Satellite imagery reveals the melting of the polar ice cap. Mrs. Claus got a facelift. The city of Dayton won`t pick up your leaves anymore, but they`ll fine you $75 if you don`t pick them up either.

November 26, 2011
Poor withered rose, thou liest dead; Too soon thy beauty`s bloom hath fled. PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR I`ve probably said this in prior years, but I really doubt my ability to take pictures every day during the coming winter. Half the city could be reflected in this massive puddle. In Ohio during November, flower gardens sprout cabbage. Somewhere, there`s a guy with one hand in his pocket.

November 27, 2011
This faucet knob came off and I repaired it myself. However, now hot is cold and cold is hot. There`s always someone having a worse day than you. That`s what we need -- more rain. Paul Laurence Dunbar lived in Dayton. Why is he writing about sunlight in November? Zucchini. Is it my fault the cashier only charged me for a cucumber?

November 28, 2011
I need to go back to work tomorrow. Nah . . . let it grow. Yesterday`s zucchini picture was such a delicious success, all of today`s photos are of food. It`s spelled yolk. It`s pronounced yoke. This is unfortunate. This is your brain on margarine. Any questions? I use eggs only from free-range, vegetarian-fed chickens that go to a health club at least three times a week.

November 29, 2011
You can`t make an omelette without getting dishes dirty. Piqua won the JV game, but Butler`s varsity team took punishing revenge, scoring the first 17 points of the game. Sharing is for sissies. Don`t lose sight of your goals. `Here, let me help you with that.`

November 30, 2011
Un. Stop. Ubble. When Butler`s No. 32 took the ball, Piqua`s defensive players became mere spectators.
