Photographers agree that the worst time of day to take pictures outside is at noon. Abstract expressionism in the alleyway. So you`ll PAY ME five dollars to eat that? Missing anything? The leaves are still green, for now.

Stereo. Minus cars, Sixth Street looked like this 100 years ago. Just a rose, a fleetingly perfect rose. Raiding the cat`s bowl of food . . . . . . while the cat stands by helplessly.

Sunscreen can help with that. A hot day to run 5000 meters. But after the race, it`s all worth it. My philosophy: never run unless something is chasing you. Ah, a refreshing face full of cold water.

The squirrels go nuts over the tree in front of my house. They sit up there all day and GNAW. Where potato chips come from. The rain was eagerly soaked up by the soil -- er, steel. The rest of today`s photos are under a rain delay.

A squirrel left a gift for me on the front porch. All things must change. Finally, the bricks I planted in the garden have sprouted. Despite the suddenly frigid temperature outside today, this little guy and I both continued about our business. This is exactly the kind of day it was.

It`s Volley for the Cure night, and pink reigns. Nice try. An amazing feat of levitation. An amazing feat of concentration. Faces in the crowd.

September 7, 2011
It`s National Narcissist Day. Where`d he go? Two thirds of the man I used to be. I`m still wearing a blue oxford shirt, just like in high school. Not the same one, though. Taken 94 seconds before midnight. Goodnight!

Having not previously photographed golf, I`ve become quite an expert in the past three weeks. Can you identify this school mascot emblem? Tee time. Just off the driving range. The windows are all broken. Fall. Don`t even get me started about fall.

Single red berry seeks friendship or long term relationship. Flowers raise so many questions that are hard to answer. How and why is this one shaped this way? Squirrel lunch. And why are THESE flowers shaped THIS way? Impermanent chalk art.

Saturday morning at Wegerzyn Garden. It`s not white, nor Anglo-Saxon, nor Protestant. There were hummingbirds flying about, but I had to settle for taking pictures of the slightly less active butterflies. A student in my photography workshop this morning said, `Your pictures have such nice soft, green backgrounds.` When I told her how much my lens cost, SHE turned green. This book was published in 1907, but they let me check it out of the library.

Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a bush. In half an apartment, a mini-fridge is too big. No, that`s fine, I didn`t want to use the sidewalk. Large curd. Ominous.

September 12, 2011
Isn`t there another school nearby that goes by Warriors? I hope that doesn`t hurt as much as it looks like it does. I`m getting better at the sports photography thing. When you`re six-foot-two in high school, your parents don`t have to worry a whole lot about paying your college tuition. Sometimes it`s about the team, sometimes it`s about ME!

September 13, 2011
Some skin conditioner might help. Five o`clock shadow. Waiting for SOMETHING to come down the drainpipe. Treasure in the alleyway. Five dollars each. Two for ten.

Found roaming through a garden? No, found on the sidewalk inside a planter that used to be a garbage can. In the Oregon District, we want visitors to feel at home, so comfort stations are provided around the neighborhood. There are a lot of bars in the Oregon District. Another Oregon District comfort station. Another sidewalk flower.

Flower on a windy day. This historic property can be yours! A second rose provided the nice pink blur on the left. Urban Nights is tomorrow! (I took that picture years ago.) For me, much of the appeal of photography pertains to the experience rather than the photos. Standing among these wind-blown branches is more memorable than this picture.

If he really shot a man in Reno just to watch him die, he probably shouldn`t sing about it in front of an audience. When juggling razor-sharp knives, you certainly don`t want to have a photographer standing nearby distracting you. As the `prize` for a charity fundraiser, these people are descending one of the tallest buildings in Dayton. County commisioner Debbie Lieberman is in the foreground. `Let me back in! I don`t WANT to play outside.` Rodney Veal dances among hanging metallic sculptures, using a magnetic glove to get them to dance around him.

September 17, 2011
This new bride went past shouting `JUST MARRIED!!` The groom was presumably inside, sitting in quiet panic. I`m the type of person who follows instructions. Ugliness is the price we pay for modern conveniences. Summer is fleeting, bumblebee, and so is life, so is life. Small curd.

September 18, 2011
Formal and informal communication. O come, all ye faithful. Lifeguard. The ear of a rare green elephant. Time to take the sweaters out of the bottom drawer.

September 19, 2011
Southwestern Ohio rain forest. This one goes `Woof!` rather than `Roar!` In case you were wondering, I usually display my five daily photos in the same sequence that I took the pictures. But you probably weren`t wondering. It don`t mean a thing.

September 20, 2011
Too bad, I was looking forward to some skating today. A bicycle rack -- or modern sculpture -- I can`t tell which. Julie Andrews did not make up do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-te-do. Fortunately, there are still people who sing because they enjoy it, not just to win fame and money on television. A flashback to the six years I spent in school choirs.

September 21, 2011
It`s just a fun event to show school spirit . . . . . . and to raise money for charity . . . . . . but once the ball is snapped . . . . . . it becomes obvious that they take the game seriously. The star of the game was this freshman who was the backbone of BOTH the offensive and defensive squads.

September 22, 2011
Welcome to the Oregon District at night . . . A variety of services are available . . . As well as merchandise of all kinds . . . And plenty of food and drink. Late into the night, my neighborhood glows blood red.

September 23, 2011
Today is the autumnal equinox, and fall is in the air (and on the ground). Homecoming queen. In the short term, man bends nature to his will. But in the long term, nature always triumphs. Leaf on leaf, exactly as I found them. Today was a drippy day.

September 24, 2011
Did you see that movie `A Place in the Sun`? Traces of a wedding. I was looking forward to photographing a special event tonight, and practiced with some new flash techniques. Okay, so this one didn`t turn out, but it was just practice. I even put on a tie and shaved (on a Saturday), and then drove thirty miles to take pictures at the special event. And then I discovered the special event was cancelled. I will leave you to wonder how I got into the building.

September 25, 2011
Okay, new day, and I drove the same thirty miles I did last night, and fortunately this event hadn`t been cancelled. Nice effort, QB, but the pass was intercepted. It seems very easy in theory, but it`s harder than it looks. [This photo is oddly reminiscent of one from July 26, 2008] This school has an unusually high number of redheads. As in the last game (see September 21 above), one player dominated with tackles, receptions and rushes.

September 26, 2011
Since the brain tends to anthropomorphize, I see a face. I may finally be running out of things to photograph in my neighborhood, so I had to wander further into the city. Afterward, I realized I should`ve taken a picture of a car running over my shadow. I don`t think this club ever opens, or maybe I`m asleep by the time it does. THIS MEANS YOU!

September 27, 2011
What the saw saw. Stuck the camera inside a playground slide and pushed the button without looking. Ready or not, here it comes. Some people actually LIKE fall. I don`t hang around with those people. Somewhat like Pepé Le Pew, I couldn`t tell if it was a skunk or a cat.

September 28, 2011
Flection. Reflection. I saw. You sod. He seed. My daily dilemma: what to wear, what to wear? If it sits there too long, that cat may become a vicitm of first-degree mortar.

September 29, 2011
My name wasn`t on the plaque nor on the guest list. And my table was in the back corner by the kitchen door. Here`s another view of my table. The bright flash is me. But I got a free dinner while taking pictures at this banquet. The musicians didn`t get a free dinner like I did, but they raided the hors d`oeuvres table after the banquet started.

This innocent box of flowers has no idea what lies ahead. The traditional gentleman`s method. A much different method. Proud of her flower. How come she gets two?
