On a morning walk through the neighborhood. Making waves. Colorful litter. Cute but wild. I`m following his tweets.

The position of the sun shows it`s lunchtime. Coming soon: a bottle of honey. It`s rodent week on this Web page. `It`s so hot today, I could really go for some mice cream. MICE cream! Get it?` Nature`s colors.

Dayton jazz is alive and well. My normal seat in the front row may have been a little TOO close this time. Just like Charlie Brown`s teacher: muwah-mwa mmwhaaahh! A venerable Selmer. `All of me, why not take all of me?`

Can you recommend a good summer reed? `I can fly higher than an eagle, `cause you are the wind beneath my wings. Fly, fly, FLYYYYYYY!` I brought back some nice pictures this morning, along with many bug bites. As long as the rod and reel are pink, she`ll go fishing. Let the barn rats try to get the corn now.

Previously seen together on September 28, 2008, they`re now celebrating high school graduation. For some graduates, white sandals just don`t cut it (see June 7, 2004). He was last seen smiling on this stage on December 4, 2009. Pomp, circumstance and silly hats. What lies ahead for these graduates?

Small town America. In case you missed the two speed limit signs. Another one? It used to be people would just sit quietly and watch and let the real photographer take pictures. Picture postcard campus.

Other people`s jobs make me appreciate mine. What a tangled web we weave. Graduation party. Extracurricular accomplishments. Great photo, and the diploma is nice too.

Crowd control. Up a lazy river. When this caterpillar saw I was taking a picture, its face turned red. Incidentally, it will change into a white-marked tussock moth, which doesn`t look nearly as cool. Jump back, honey, jump back! The evening commute.

Picnic time. I was compelled to play cornhole today for the first time. By the third game, I almost had the hang of it. Which came first, the chicken salad or the deviled eggs? This is tough to do on a windy day. My contribution to the picnic didn`t last long in the heat.

Early farmers used a homemade concoction of milk, lime, red iron oxide and linseed oil to seal the wood on their barns, resulting in the reddish color that is now traditional. Good luck. We`ll leave a light on for you. Small enough to perch on a daisy. Not much happening in the barnyard.

There was a huge crowd for my photo workshop today. Spray-on art. I can think of no better use for science and math texts than to hold open a door. Just don`t use any literature books. Some people REALLY LOVE cotton candy. A cold drink for a hot day.

Highlights from the owner`s manual of my new macro lens. So THAT`S what I`ve been doing wrong! This is the first lens I`ve owned that has image stabilization. Here`s a page from the manual with IS on. Here`s the same page under the same conditions, but with IS turned off. I guess it makes a difference. I`ve finished the manual and am ready to start shooting (though judging from this picture, I need a haircut first).

June 14, 2010
After reading the manual yesterday, I was ready to put my new macro lens to use today. Today is the birthday of two of my friends. It`s also Flag Day. What else can I say while you look at this picture? Wow, my skin could really use some moisturizer. Slightly repetitious, perhaps, but it`s a different bug on a different flower in a different location. Lily dream.

Some guy sitting at a picnic table wearing a red shirt -- seen through a really freaky window. What this bench lacks in comfort it makes up for in permanence. See its construction on March 23, 2010. A nearby sign refers to this as `the greening of campus.` That explains the tree slaying done on March 2, 2010. My shoes were dirty after taking this picture. Imagine what his looked like. A friend of the earth.

Light and dark. Light and light. Gyotaku is a centuries-old printing technique originated by Japanese fishermen. First, apply paint or ink to the fish. Then press paper or fabric onto the fish (as demonstrated here by Jane Black of the Dayton Visual Arts Center). Finally, remove the fabric to reveal the printed image.

I never touch the stuff myself, but it makes for good photos (see May 28, 2004). I work at the only library that has a two-drink minimum. There was also a church steeple in this shot, but it was too dark to show up. This was taken AFTER the moon picture, thanks to artificial light. Soccer will never catch on in the United States as long as people have to get up early to watch it.

On a hot day like this, the greatest challenge of photographing a model is to keep her out of the sun. When a cloud appeared and dimmed the sun briefly, we ventured out and quickly shot a few pictures in the open. The rest of the day was spent hiding in the shade or working indoors where it was cool. Hmmm . . . I can`t remember if I let her out afterward. Staying indoors forced us to improvise some unusual settings, but it was fun and we got good photographs.

U. S. currency is etched by hand by an artist with a metal plate, a blade and a mirror (to make a reverse image). Surely Andrew Jackson`s head wasn`t that enormous. And his shoulders weren`t quite so crooked, I hope. And did he really have little dotted lines across his face? The best deterrent to counterfeiting is simply the secret blend of the paper. Can you see the tiny colored fibers? With my new macro lens, I can see at the molecular level.

June 20, 2010
I have only a hazy recollection of why I took this picture. Sunny Sunday. Who knew there were spots to drink from in this flower? What time is it? Time for jazz. Drumming in the red zone.

June 21, 2010
Yes, this is a photograph. Notice the shape of the white section: about seven units across and one unit down. Now imagine the white section laid over top of this picture. All the important elements are aligned to fit within the box. Have I mentioned I no longer use the elevator at work? The weather forecast didn`t say anything about rain today. On the summer solstice, the sun shines longer than on any other day. I said, the SUN SHINES longer . . . oh forget it.

Somewhere there`s an orthodontist who should be proud. Scenes from a backyard. Some people will possess youthfulness their entire life. Stopping by woods on a sunny evening. Looking forward to a future of happiness.

June 23, 2010
Ever feel that way sometimes? Bugslayer. Yes it`s dull, but what would YOU have taken a picture of? Study in orange and white. The smoke alarm in my kitchen stopped working. How am I supposed to know when to take dinner out of the oven?

June 24, 2010
Saints preserve us. A piano sits beneath the stained glass window. It was hot outdoors today, but cool inside the chapel. If you like your clouds extra crispy, use a polarizing filter. I was a writer today, not a photographer. At 12:01am, I wondered if I had five photos for the day and was glad to find this meaningless picture of grass I took at lunch.

June 25, 2010
Dragonfly One. Dragonfly Two. Dragonfly Three. Dragonfly Four. Dragonfly Five (look for the shadow).

June 26, 2010
How are you supposed to tell time on cloudy days? Keeping an eye on the neighbors. Hoping to catch a southbound freight to Birmingham. This one`s a little too small for me to ride. This one`s too small also, but these people don`t mind.

When Evelyn Hofer arrived in America on March 26, 1946, she wrote three words in her diary: `New York - awful.` And yet she remained in New York for the next sixty years, photographing its landscapes of concrete and glass. Her photographs of urban architecture are known for their clarity and precision, and also for their unerring symmetry. Hofer`s city scenes are often devoid of people, as if she was photographing the ruins of some extinct civilization. I set up my tripod exactly in the center. I would never do it from the side, at an angle; I want to confront the viewer directly. EVELYN HOFER

Ben Dover visited with his friends Justin Case, Iona Carr, Rick O`Shea, Marshall Law, Robin Banks and Stan Dupp. Red Admiral. The big picture. And I thought I liked flowers a lot. It likes to make little helicopter noises when it lands.

June 29, 2010
Dig here. This picture is the result of hearing the peep of a juvenile hawk, and seeing white fledgling feathers under a tree. Every summer, he cleans up part of the campus (see July 10, 2009). Can it be that I get my own office? My name`s on the door, so I guess it`s mine.

June 30, 2010
A student art project takes shape in the library. This is called a hummingbird moth (since it looks like a hummingbird) or a clearwing moth (since its wings are clear), or a sphinx moth (since it doesn`t talk much). Layers of leaves. This picture of a red admiral is more satisfying than the one I took two days ago. Do you hear bells?
