I`m experimenting with a new studio lighting technique.  First attempt -- too bright. Gooseneck. Homage to M. C. Escher. A blustery day. There`s a little flash of light reflected in the silver globe.  That`s me.

Just asking for bad luck. I share the same fashion sense with an 11-year-old girl. Native American hoop dancing comes to Dayton for a week. Dallas Chief Eagle just warming up.  This is nothing compared to what he can do.  Keep watching this page. The hoop dancers` accompanist, Quentin Red Bear.

`The Barber of Seville, or the Useless Precaution, A Comedy in Four Acts` by Gioachino Rossini. Mayberry R.F.D. As spring approaches, sunset occurs later each night. South Dakota symbolism. The hoop represents the horizon, the union of Mother Earth and Father Sky, that surrounds us on all sides.

Look up once in a while. `The Old Man and the Sea` by Ernest Hemingway. Local musicians collaborate with Native American performers from South Dakota. Hoops of unity. She was being honored, but that doesn`t mean she wasn`t scared.

Both parents were performers, so she grew up dancing. Another case of parent and child performers:  Dallas Chief Eagle and Jasmine Pickner. What do you think:  butterfly or peacock? World champion hoop dancer. Future hoop dancer.

Statements of women`s rights hanging on the line. I wonder if he saw his shadow. A fine dinner accompanied this evening`s photographs. The evening began with a friendly reception . . .  . . . and culminated with a delicious dessert.

Stars in your eyes. I`m not sure, but I think it`s a birdhouse. Any song played on the bagpipes seems really long. Girls in black dresses with red satin sashes. Despite her obvious disadvantage in size, Meaghen regularly participates in Irish dancing competitions.

Urban nomad. I came to the gallery straight after work to get a quick look at the paintings on display . . .  . . . a VERY quick look. Outside the gallery were some stationary buildings . . .  . . . and a speeding bus.

5 12 10 375 Shoulda stopped at third. I had a good location from which to take photos, but nearly got hit by a ball a couple times. DOUBLE PLAY!!  Oh wait, wrong team. We interrupt this baseball game to bring you something much more interesting.

Puddle. It`s the time of year when birds fight to the death for prime nesting locations. Early tree blossom with the season`s first daffodils. Anticipation. St. Patrick`s Day begins the night before in the Oregon District.  Don`t even try to drive into the neighborhood.

Many students skipped class today in order to improve international relations. These guys evidently did not have class today.  I wonder if they ever have class. Everyone`s Irish today. The wearin` o` the Green. At ankle level.

We`ve been advised not to watch basketball over the Internet while at work. My great new camera has created a storage problem.  I used to archive pictures on CD, but now I use DVDs. The same tree blossom and daffodils seen on March 16. Shampoo philosophy. Raisin philosophy.

What?  This is all so sudden.  I need some time to think. Junk can look good too. Centerpiece for someone else`s lunch.  I was just there to take pictures. Pulitzer Prize winning composer Robert Ward, age 91, recounts his personal experiences with Copland and Ives. Through the magic of color correction, I could eliminate the yellow cast, but then you wouldn`t know that it`s sunset.

`First day of spring again?  You know, I think I`m going to just sit here a while longer.  I`m just getting comfortable.` Womb to tomb, birth to earth. March Madness. While the crowds watch the game on TV, I`m content with the radio.  I just wish there were more instant replays. Don`t tell the Catalog Department we have their flashlight.

Spring arrived today -- on the back of a yellow flatbed. Same tree branches as March 14, same time of day, but that was WINTER and this is SPRING. Should I be insulted that birds aren`t intimidated by me? Tom Chapman perpetuates the 3500-year-old art of glassmaking. If given the choice of taking a picture with flames in it or without, I`d always choose the flames.

I`ve already taken more than 6000 pictures with this camera that I got in February. There`s nothing special about this photo, except it was my first butterfly sighting of the season. I have bought my last incandescent light bulb.  From now on, it`s the much more efficient compact fluorescent. Appreciate them now.  One strong storm and they`re gone. Investing in the stealth helicopter has really increased my photographic options.

Clearance sale on T-shirts last seen on March 18. Yes, I know it hurts, but it`s for your own good. Each chapter of a Hardy Boys book ends with a crisis, so you have to keep reading to find out what happens. Sibling rivalry. Late night hoops.

I took the picture on February 12, but am just now turning it in for a class assignment. The Great Escape. No escape. Yellow flowers, yellow house. Someday I`ll make a fortune selling people photos with their names on street signs, like WAYNE VAN BUREN.

An exercise for my studio photography class:  the teacher set it up, I just pushed the button. Another class exercise. Behind the scenes. Not my notebook.  I`m not advanced. I`ve never photographed tree blossoms at night before.

Aren`t I nice?  I`m loaning somebody my Lensbaby. We are in the minority. If I didn`t have HIGH STANDARDS, I wouldn`t have sat on the sidewalk with the camera balanced on my shoe, taking picture after picture of this flower. I`ve taken two picture of words today.  I`m not proud of this. This scene would make a great sculpture, but photography is so much easier.

I never garden, but I owe a huge debt to those who do. `Put flowers into context,` I told my photography workshop participants this morning. Soon-to-be tulips. Exhaustion. A bystander who lacked vision wondered why I was taking a picture of this.

It was another baseball day at the UD library. Si Burick`s sports column from February 2, 1937. `So I pick up the ball and throw it to Naturally.` `No, you throw it to Who!` `Naturally.` `That`s right.` `THAT`S WHAT I JUST SAID!` You can buy this picture at the Stivers School for the Arts photography auction.  I don`t get the money, the kids do. Dinner.

In the morning, my office window becomes reflective and this highly territorial cardinal attacks himself in the glass (see also May 2, 2008, and February 18, 2005). Gallery fish. It`s not vandalism, it`s art. This group sings in an ancient language, so it would be hard to explain what is going on here.  But what they lack in intelligibility, they make up for with enthusiasm. They sang a Christmas song for the Dayton audience, explaining that it is so cold here it reminds them of late December in the south of France.
