The ghosts of my old playground. For want of a shoe the horse was lost. For want of a horse the rider was lost. For want of a rider the battle was lost. Soggy park. Mostly common grackles, a few robins. My hands and camera, reflected in my eye.  Strictly a boredom shot.

A very simple, but satisfying picture. What did one wall say to the other wall?  Meet you at the corner. My new battery charger emits a strange glow.  I resist the urge to put my tongue on it. Blue oxford button-down shirts have been an essential part of my wardrobe since eleventh grade, but only today do I discover that they`re really only half blue. The fifth photo nearly didn`t happen on the fifth.  I don`t know how I used to do this every day back in my youth.

Can you tell I`m detail-oriented? Only 73 days until spring. Circles Left upon a Seat in a Yew-Tree, by William Wordsworth. My reflection in the eye of a Volkswagen. Normally my photos don`t have `deeper meanings,` but this shot taken in my kitchen cabinet means:  I hate winter.

A cold, colorless day. Dental graffiti. Nope -- hungry. This statue was so small, I almost tripped over it.  Maybe it`s Knee-high-miah. I guess the painters were in a hurry to leave (see December 11, 2006).

She wore blue velvet. BOBBY VINTON Selected for this photo just because they looked old. I just finished reading all four of Paul Laurence Dunbar`s novels. Preserving the legacy of Johann Sebastian Bach. Injured in last month`s `Nutcracker` she sat out tonight`s ballet rehearsal.

Very old Japanese currency. Very old Austrian currency. German notgeld, or emergency currency, used between the world wars when inflation was out of control. All the comforts of home. Outside in the snow with a camera and flash.  What will the neighbors think?

What zero degrees looks like. A picture of disappointment - a totally blank roll of film I found in the trash can of the photo lab. My SECOND studio photography teacher (see May 2, 2006). `Will this be on the test?` During a discussion of the dangers of high-voltage lighting equipment, this device made a very loud BANG and caused some students to consider changing their major.

The expectations are on him, but it`s really up to that girl on the left, and that guy on the right.  And you and me. One last glimpse of Bush. Now my apartment is at the opposite extreme (see June 6, 2008).

Indoors it was springtime. A glimpse through the leaves. What 43 degrees looks like. Scavenged from bank documents by a frugal person. A frugal person works late on a Friday evening.

Always a rational man, Monsieur LeGrande was startled when touched by the frigid fingers of Fate. The world`s smallest airport. The sphere within the star represents the globe. It reminds us of our obligation to secure our nation`s freedom with Global Vigilance, Reach and Power. The globe also reminds us of our challenge as an expeditionary force to respond rapidly to crises and to provide decisive aerospace power, worldwide.  The area surrounding the sphere takes the shape of a star. The star has many meanings. Its five points represent the components of our Total Force and family -- our active duty, civilians, Guard, Reserve and retirees. The star symbolizes space as the high ground of our nation`s air and space force. The rallying symbol in all our wars, the star also represents our officer corps, central to our combat leadership. Impolite. Bock`s Car, the B-29 bomber that ended World War II.

There will come a day when I don`t take five photos.  It was almost today. But thanks to a coincidental purchase at the fabric store, I got an idea for a series of pictures. Consider it an experiment in scale. Which is changing size:  the circle or the squares?. I`m sure you`re anxious to know the answer to this visual riddle.
