They call him `The Glove.` Some of the guys on this team have really long hair. On his way to another triple-double. Not this year. Contemplating his lost youth.

Are these picture frames straight? The laser level has disappeared, so I am improvising with masking tape, fishing line and a piece of trash. Hanging pictures this way is very much not fun. My pictures are always clean, but this helps too. I`m the person who takes the photos, so I shouldn`t have to hang them as well.

I had to buy very large and expensive photo paper for a class assignment, then I promptly ruined the first sheet. While waiting for the printer to do its thing. Still waiting for the printer. Bridget was also printing. `Sherlock Holmes and the Adventure of the Empty House` by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

After three days of hanging, the photos are finally ready. I think people respond to my pictures because of the deeply metaphorical titles. Last year there was a boat outside my photography classroom. This year we`ve been downgraded to a car. Yes, but it`s a lot of work sometimes. And when you don`t put the work into it, it shows (like today, for instance). I`m not quite sure what I had for dinner, but it looked good for a sore throat.

I should send this to myself. Never made it outside the house today. This is through the window during the day. This is through the window at night. The living room through the viewfinder of my other camera. Living room AND window at night. At about 8:45, it was time for bed.

February 6, 2008
My big adventure today was going down the stairs . . . . . . to get the mail (it was soaking wet) . . . . . . and then going back up the stairs. Fortunately, I had things to read and watch today. A cup of sleep.

February 7, 2008
Doves in the rafters. `Ohhhh . . . hit the snooze button, will you?` Justa coupla guys. Through the glass. Lady Day in Dayton.

February 8, 2008
Motorcycle with an air freshener. Get it? IF YOU CAN READ THIS YOU`RE ALL WET Constantly circling over the river. Encountering people who are truly crazy makes me feel more comfortable about my own sanity. Hmmm . . . gives me a good idea for tomorrow.

February 9, 2008
Shot for a class project, but even I don`t really know what was supposed to be going on. Oh well, when in doubt just zoom in for a close-up. I climbed into the box myself before asking her to do it. Fly me to you-know-where. The outcome of my idea from yesterday.

February 10, 2008
Who can turn the world on with her smile? Who can take a nothing day and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile? Well it`s you girl and you should know it. With each glance and every little movement you show it. You`re gonna make it after all.

February 11, 2008
Normally my pictures are very straightforward, but this one has a hidden meaning: it`s 8 degrees outside. At least there`s no snow . . . yet. Symmetry is its own reward. Imagine no possessions. I wonder if you can. JOHN LENNON The ultimate act of desperation when there`s nothing else to photograph.

School was delayed until noon today, but since I don`t watch TV I found out only after I got there at 8:30. I guess that explains why the parking lot was so empty. He plays the ud at UD. Street scene. Back at home at the heat of the day (33 degrees). The sleet had turned to rain.

February 13, 2008
School was NOT delayed today, though it should`ve been. It took me five minutes just to get the car door open. He also plays the violin at UD. While he played, the students TRIED to clap along: ten beats per measure, clap on beats 1, 6 and 7. Q and A. Even the grass is icy.

February 14, 2008
Simon Shaheen, traditional Arab musician. Keeping the beat. I was close enough to the flute player to get spit on me. The leader of the ensemble is from Israel, and other musicians are from Europe, Africa and America. Hey mister bassman.

February 15, 2008
Still messing around with the dark stairway idea. Wings over Dayton. I was lost so I pulled over to ask directions from a tree. Sometimes when the camera jiggles, it improves the picture. It`s an oversimplification to say I have brown eyes.

February 16, 2008
Strangely similar to the Packard hood ornament (see November 26, 2004). Conflict resolution. Guess what happened next. Individualism. Sportsmanship.

February 17, 2008
Day 14 of being sick, and ready to try something new. Hansel and Gretel had never before seen a house made of cake. Branching out. Abandoned by the fickle bees. Clouds come in a variety of colors.

February 18, 2008
What if the fireman`s name isn`t Jack? The weekly critique in photography class. The snow didn`t just fall -- it was thrashed. Dangerous roads due to wires and signs blown down. Made it home safely, and then watched other people drive around outside.

February 19, 2008
I don`t know if I can adequately convey in words just how much I didn`t want to be outside taking pictures today. It felt like the North Pole. Frère Jacques, frère Jacques, dormez-vous? Dormez-vous? Angel of the evening. Unfinished business.

February 20, 2008
My options today were to stand outside in the cold and shoot a lunar eclipse, or sit inside on a cushioned seat. Somebody should`ve practiced more before the game. `HEY! Aren`t you tired? Don`t you want to rest a while?` The cheerleaders whipped the crowd of not-quite-500 people into a frenzy. `What`s happening?! The moon!! It`s turning dark!`

February 21, 2008
I sit by the coffee shop when I eat lunch and listen while people buy drinks that cost more than my entire lunch. What is wrong with those people?! They`re not looking at my photos. This doesn`t look like Shakespeare. This doesn`t sound like Shakespeare. But, sure enough, this is Shakespeare.

February 22, 2008
A gift for someone I`ve never met. One message says, due to bad weather and icy roads, the University is closed. The next message says, despite bad weather and icy roads, I have to work anyway. My ticket to Venice went unused, due to my selfish desire to get home as early -- and as safely -- as possible. These miniature entrepreneurs strong-armed me into buying a box of Tagalongs. I guess it`s pretty on a berry, but it`s wicked on the road.

February 23, 2008
Not surprisingly, there were broken branches everywhere. Keeping a low profile. All-weather children. Making tracks. `Look, I`m skating!`

February 24, 2008
It`s not too late to fly south. There`s snowfall expected soon. Someone at the Kroger bakery left me a message. It came down from the roof (see January 16, 2008). Some people are just hesitant to throw things away.

February 25, 2008
I just shaved six hours ago. We praise You, Lord, for Sister Earth, who sustains us with her fruits, colored flowers, and herbs. SAINT FRANCIS OF ASSISI Like looking at the Baptist window: pretty as colored glass with the sun pouring through, such a shine you don`t know it`s getting dark. TRUMAN CAPOTE You don`t need sunshine to have a thaw. Whoever invented this cookie should be awarded the Nobel Prize.

February 26, 2008
Epistemology for Beginners. Someone I can really look up to. Someone I can really look down upon. Urban wildlife. Really, there were snowflakes swirling all around it.

February 27, 2008
Just in time, before the old snow melted, we got more. Last Friday`s recital was delayed due to snow, and it took them until Wednesday to shovel the stage. When you practice guitar a lot, there`s no need to fret over a recital. What`s he got in there? I personally find it encouraging that a young student chose to perform `The Girl from Ipanema.`

February 28, 2008
Through a glass thickly. Row, row, row of pictures. Some people put theirs in a box. I put mine on the Web. Warning: visitors to my photo exhibition are likely to be photographed. Someday women will simply take a pill and their fingernails will change color.

February 29, 2008
When I strap the Lensbaby on my camera, that`s a sure sign that I`ve totally lost inspiration. `Hey -- who you callin yellow?` The first thing I shot today was yellow and it gave me an idea for a theme, but that picture didn`t make the daily 5. Today`s first picture must have been pretty bad if I preferred this one over it. Hanging around the bush.
