Somebody was in a big hurry. The tree still had electric lights on it. My enthusiasm for shooting five pictures a day is starting to wayne. Finding a nicely shaped hunk of metal helps inspire wayne-ing enthusiasm. I`d like you to meet Rusty -- he`s grate. Pavement patriotism.

My innovative pictures are changing the very fabric of photography. Jingle all the way. No, you`re not missing anything subtle. It`s just a bad picture. Students find such creative ways to be annoying. Where there`s sun, there`s shadow.

January 3, 2007
An `Oak and Ivy` flag flies above Paul Laurence Dunbar`s grave. It slowly dawned on me the leaves on this tree are green. Camera shy. Where there`s sun, there`s shadow. On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross.

January 4, 2007
Pah-rum-pah-pah-pum! I stood, I watched, I waited. They did nothing. Photos on the floor can mean only one thing: another exhibition is coming up soon. I`m in the kitchen, dear! Time to put away the Christmas candles.

January 5, 2007
Today purchased my creativity. Pensive.

January 6, 2007
Frugal (why waste yesterday`s flowers?). Confident. Optimistic. Sleepy. It stopped raining for a short while today, but long enough to take a walk outside.

January 7, 2007
The park was rather soggy, so I stuck mostly to the streets and sidewalks. This is my Power Rangers stance. Kilroy was here. Holding up the telephone pole -- get it? How about parking for UD soccer?

January 8, 2007
On a bright sunny day, it`s easier to take pictures of fast-moving objects. Bump in the road. I just got tired of it ringing all the time. Today`s photos: half price! Actually today is Tuesday.

January 9, 2007
Una corda, sostenuto, damper. Wanna glassa punch? I didn`t spill it! Y`all come. Nobody went up or down.

January 10, 2007
What does it matter now, since my favorite restaurant in the Oregon District is now closed? Room with a view. Manufacturing isn`t dead, it`s just sleeping. Hall monitors. A kid`ll eat ivy too, wouldn`t you?

January 11, 2007
Always park between the yellow lines. What do you call a smashed TV? A good start. Many many years ago, a Dayton band by that name posed for a photo by this wall, and no one has defaced it since. The automobile is just a passing fad. Adam goes for a drive.

January 12, 2007
Merry Christmas. HOW`S MY DRIVING? Call 1 (800) 555-1212. This isn`t even my bank. Really, I`m not going very fast. It does absolutely nothing, but it looks important.

January 13, 2007
The color of the carpet was chosen by a committee. The big sleep. What goes down . . . . . . must go up. This year I took three days to hang pictures, instead of doing it all in one frustrating afternoon.

January 14, 2007
I`m also learning how to make it easier to take down an exhibit. The secret is this piece of fishing line. Games people play. Right foot where? I put down a perfectly good umbrella to take this picture of an alley in the rain. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I’m not concerned about that now. MARTIN LUTHER KING on the day before his assasination

January 15, 2007
Going somewhere? Time and good weather are all I need to make pictures. Some people, you see, are just more important than the rest of us and don`t need to obey traffic laws. Anticipation. Take a seat.

January 16, 2007
It takes me about 7.5 minutes to eat lunch, then I go prowling for pictures. Doesn`t go with my eyes. Why, when I was your age, the snow was so deep it even covered the grass. Well, some of it. Photography is sometimes light work. While I sat and griped about frost on my windshield, someone else passed by riding a bicycle to work.

January 17, 2007
Frozen solid. Primary colors. Slowly melting. I`m in another photography class this semester, and it will be the most challenging of all. This class came to the gallery to look at my photos and write responses. Couldn`t they wait until I was dead?

January 18, 2007
[Treble] cleft in the rock. Above my head at lunch. I take a lotta pictures, I drink a lotta juice. A side-by-side taste test. I WILL buy one of these cameras in the next week or so. Please sign in.

Bright orange wall. Bright yellow wall. Come on up, it`s open. I`m no expert, but I think this may affect the resale value. Pass the salt.

January 20, 2007
The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls. PAUL SIMON Light from above. What happens when you don`t wear a hard hat and something falls on your head. Doesn`t know enough to stay out of traffic. I am a responsible person -- to a degree. I only cleared the part of the sidewalk that I need to use.

January 21, 2007
Has anyone seen my car? This year`s snowball crop looks good. The long and winding road. Studio Photography, Project 1. Red letter day.

January 22, 2007
Other people decorate my neighborhood, making my task easier. This is the last day I will have to struggle with a shot like this due to a defective zoom lens. The same truck as seen January 15, now with TWO flat tires (and yet somehow it moved 100 yards). So are you saying I`m too FAT to ride the swing? I`m such a Rebel.

January 23, 2007
The first-ever photo of my old camera (except for some I shot in a mirror). It will soon be going into treatment. Anticipation: I had to do this before I could use my new camera. Highlights from the owner`s manual. Early experiments with the new camera were tentative. One is the loneliest number.

January 24, 2007
It`s nice to be able to use a zoom lens again. Even when it was working well, I could`ve NEVER done this with my old camera. My new camera gives me greater control over depth of field -- or what`s in focus and what`s not. I walked less than a block through my neighborhood and came back feeling very satisfied with my new camera. I`m not letting my new camera out of the house yet, but I can shoot out the windows.

January 25, 2007
Before they were famous. It was a cold night for a gallery reception. I told the caterer just to bring whatever food I ordered last year (see February 23, 2006). The photographer gets photographed. (Hey, she has the same kind of camera that I have.) Robin doing its best penguin imitation.

January 26, 2007
Join my fan club? Very sunny, but very cold. Flying the coop. Still shooting out the windows with my new camera, but tomorrow I will take it out into the world. I was afraid I`d drop my new camera in the pool.

January 27, 2007
The mother of a diver came up to me and asked to buy my photos. The camera is already paying for itself! This is another of those sports where I have no idea what`s going on. I just wander around and take pictures. The lady of the lake. Once or twice a year, I become a Wright State Raiders fan (because they have a swimming and diving team). Another day, another sport.

January 28, 2007
The Pride of Dayton. Keep your eyes on the ball. Competition is fierce at halftime. And now for something completely different. Climbing DOWN had been much more precarious, but I didn`t have my camera ready.

January 29, 2007
Healing music. Jean-Paul Samputu of Rwanda. Class project. Not a class project, just trying to zoom during an exposure. On a typical day, nobody climbs the roof.

January 30, 2007
Ah, the good old days when everything was much simpler. I wonder if this phone number still works. In the bleak midwinter. It`s all about depth of field control (see December 11). Filling in at the radio station. Buying a nice new camera doesn`t overcome the fundamental problem of finding interesting things to shoot.

January 31, 2007
I also do display cases. Frosty the Snow Lump was a fairy tale they say. The old way to edit photographs. I just press DELETE. I`m always trying to make a PICTURE out of NOTHING.
