Not a morning fog, an all-day fog. My New Year`s resolution: fix up the apartment a bit. Face to vase. I say, `Light can.` You say, `Light can what?` `Yes, the kids are in bed and I`m just now putting the laundry in. Honey, would I lie to you?`

Cat fish. My snow globe melted. Closed for the season. Only 356 days until Christmas. Gotta go back to work tomorrow, so it`s time to shave off a few weeks of whiskers.

The seat of learning. How come I wasn`t invited to the dance? All growed up (see October 27). Self portrait. First day of classes: time to watch TV.

People from above: walker. People from above: pusher. People from above: smokers. People from above: climbers. People from above: singer.

I dog-paddled to my car this morning. A circle is the only natural shape. All the rest are man-made. A triangle is kind of like a natural shape, but not exactly. Besides the symmetrical circle, most natural patterns are irregular. It`s that irregularity that makes them interesting.

Oh what a relief. The ceiling takes on odd shapes as water leaks through. Protecting the silver against leaks. I`d like you to meet my friend Gem. This is Gem`s girlfriend Crystal.

Ever stretching the boundaries of art, I strapped the camera onto my shoe this morning. It gave me a whole new perspective on the world around me. I have greater compassion for the downtrodden. I`ve achieved a closeness to the earth. Actually I was just looking for money on the ground.

Other people had snow and ice on their cars this morning, but my neighborhood luckily missed the weather. Ebony and ivory live together in perfect harmony. I always have a hard time spelling fluorescent. To be successful in photography, you`ve got to have connections. The basement`s flooded! Now we`re totally hosed.

My first attempt at pressing flowers didn`t turn out very well. Flowers are pretty, but they can sometimes be vein. I`ll just have to get some more flowers and put those in my flower-pressing kit. Flatten the petals and screw them down tight. I said, flatten the petals and screw them down tight.

`Make it extremely squalid and moving,` she suggested. `Are you at all acquainted with squalor?` I said not exactly but that I was getting better acquainted with it, in one form or another, all the time. J.D. SALINGER There`s plenty of squalor around where I live. Homage to Gjon Mili. Homage to Harold Edgerton.

More rain, but at least it`s not snow. The act of closing one of these things should be called `unbrella`. `Hey -- you`re spoiling the broth!` If you can draw THIS, you may be a candidate for our art correspondence school. Still life -- er, death.

I loved that guy on The Muppet Show. La Cathedral dans la Rue de Wilkinson. Almost got blown off a parking garage for this one. I can only imagine who the G-Man is. I wonder if these people voted for the G-Man.

Though it was a dreary day, at least it was 61 degrees. You know, this whole global warming thing ain`t so bad. In addition to it being 61 degrees, there were also 50 MPH winds. The river was a bit higher than normal . . . . . . but everyone was evacuated safely. If I`d walked down a few more stairs, I could`ve made the evening news.

January 14, 2005
I`d like you to meet my friend Mike. This is me when I`m shouting. Morning in the city. It`s hard to urn a living as a stone carver. Makes me think of swirled ice cream in a cone.

January 15, 2005
A week later and the basement is still hosed. That`s okay, we didn`t need that stuff anyway. I hate to put a damper on the situation. Women pianists are constantly frustrated by men who forget to put the lid down. The way out? Straight ahead -- you can`t miss it.

January 16, 2005
Snowball maker. Ordinary things look better with snow. At least put a hat on. It was partly cloudy. It was partly sunny.

January 17, 2005
Some people love ice skating. Some people hate ice skating. This is the only part I like about it. Nothing has changed in the U.D. library since 1970. Except the price of pop was raised to 50 cents in the early 80s.

In just a few weeks, these bare gallery walls will display my photographs. Meanwhile, they`re being prepared in my living room. `Yes sir, I make many mistakes.` [Norris the butler to Philip Marlowe in `The Big Sleep`] Something wicker this way comes. You can`t even tell where my hair-replacement implants were made.

WHAT I DO ALL DAY: Sit at this Help Desk . . . and help. WHAT I DO ALL DAY: Feed paper to printers. WHAT I DO ALL DAY: Make sure the printers are happy. WHAT I DO ALL DAY: Feed the staplers. WHAT I DO ALL DAY: Clean the computers. No wonder I go home exhausted!

Some scenes are best appreciated from indoors. Signs of life. Hey -- come do my house! How do those graffiti artists spray paint a moving train? Should`ve taken the bus.

January 21, 2005
Deceptively sunny today, considering how cold it was. Reminds me of all those years in the penitentiary in Minnesota. It`s a snow-covered whatsit. Eavesdripping. By this point, I could no longer feel my fingers.

January 22, 2005
Concrete. Steel. Wood. Glass. Flesh.

January 23, 2005
What! So soon? So that`s how the varmint got away. Yes, it`s flying. I TOLD them not to repaint it (see December 6). Cold as ice.

January 24, 2005
Blue Monday. Johann Sebastian Blau. I never read the paper. The news just makes me blue. Blue Em Double-you. Tableaue.

January 25, 2005
Morning sky. Federal glass. County glass. Catholic glass (reversed). Catholic glass (refracted).

January 26, 2005
The Huygens probe finds methane slush on the surface of Saturn`s moon Titan. Color creativity. Color calamity. I couldn`t believe it either. Thank you. Danke. Gracias.

January 27, 2005
Previously seen from above (November 1). The eye in the sky (of my living room). Of my kitchen. We bring good things to living, we bring good things to light. Filament.

January 28, 2005
Someone went skiing across the sky this morning. It`s lonely at the top. Outside Dayton`s tallest building. The signs were too late to help this guy. It`s a crime!!

January 29, 2005
How I shoot when I`m in a hurry. How I shoot when I take my time. Today`s lost and found item. Is it yours? I put the lost item to good use. Which I then shared with the public.

January 30, 2005
A cat`s day: sleeping, eating, killing, grooming [repeat]. This is as scenic as it gets today. I`ll stand, thanks. Today`s lost and found item. One of the newer homes in the neighborhood (built in 1904).

January 31, 2005
This building could use a little fresh paint. How about red? Not all of it! Geese are naturally camouflaged in a snowy field. At least, I think I see geese. Last week`s snow angels.
